Oakland School Alumni, Class of '65.  Many were on scholarship.  2005 Reunion

I no longer know all the players' names, and I may not have their names spelled correctly, but going from memory, they are: Front row Bill Tuggle, Wanda Sigler Bob Cornwell, Jim Tosh, Sally Willard, Nancy Robinson, Linda Dooley, Janet Melton, Georgia Wiley, Elaine Maurer, Cheryl Smith and Ann Stephens. In back between Nancy and Linda is Joanne Zabel.

Linda, we've been away from Bloomington since 1978, but you brought back my memory of someone we use to know that lived at 123 Sesame Street also.  I'm thinking it may have been Jerry Goergan (Trinity or NCHS graduate), but am picking my brain.  Could it be Jerry that still lives there?

I just returned from Russia a few days ago and wanted to share my grieving in the horribly sad loss of Sue while I was away. She was truly one-of-a-kind both in her humor and kindness. Her dedication to keeping our Class of 64 united was unparalleled and had everything to do with planning our reunions, keeping our budgets and breathing passion into our lives. I will miss her very much as we move forward. As so many of you have said, her spirit will continue to be within us and her memories will add joy to every part of our lives. Cheers Sue, you gave us so much for which we are eternally grateful.

And to Denny Alexander, my condolences on the loss of you father. Like all of our parents, he sounded like a great man. As our losses mount, we should find more to celebrate than to mourn. We have been very fortunate to have had such love from our parents.

Thanks to all of you for keeping the news, photos and info flowing here. It really made a difference over the past month to know what you were all doing when I was aching because I couldn't be here with you.

Linda and Helen, I didn't know anyone at 123 Sesame St. but I did know Jerry Guergin (as I remember the spelling). He lived at 1 Wach Dr. behind Oakland School and went to Trinity. I think he still lived there when we graduated. I have no idea where he went after that.

A little trivia from my sometimes faulty memory. Cookie Monster's first name was Ralph and (believe it or not) he had a wife named Trudy. On one episode of SS, Cookie M. won a gameshow prize and had to choose between a new house, $10,000 and a cookie. Trudy made it easy for him when she said, "Ralph, you know how much you like cookies."

Cute story Mel.  Glad you had a nice trip to Russia and back.  You have been missed on the Message Forum.  Jerry Goergan, which is the correct spelling, was a good friend of mine.  At one time he was married to Diane Griffin, had 2 children, John and Shelly, then divorce and married a nurse named Diane, but not the same one.  They divorced and last I heard from Tom and Diane Jefferson, they were seeing each other on a friendship basis.  Don't know what happend to Diane Griffin.  At the time we knew and were in touch with Jerry, he lived at 123 Sesame Street.  We've lost touch with him, and yes, thank you for refreshing me that he went to Trinity.  I knew is was one of those schools!  Glad your back!

Y'all paid WAAY more attention to sesame street than I did.... All I can remember is "Cookie Monster' cause that's what the kids used to call me. When Malinda made cookies, she would have to hide them... I still can't resist homemade cookies...of any variety!... "To hell with the diabetes..I'm havin one (dozen)!

You might try dog food for the diabetes Ed.  On more than one occasion, I've bit into  Snausages thinking they're pigs-in-a-blanket, or opened a bag treats thinking they're snacks for me and then complained about the lack of taste.  "Jack eats dog food" has been the joke on me for years.

There is an old, but funny joke about a man going on a dog food diet...don't think I will go there...

Jack Habich

Well Ed, I'm in need of both a diet and a good laugh, so there is always the private message system which I know you know how to use.

Ed

I think I know the joke you were going to tell if it includes a car in the driveway.  Better send it to Jack privately and do that 'because you can'!  When he reads it he will be woofin' his head off.

Here ya go!

"Yesterday I was buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for Athena, my
wonder dog at Wal-Mart and was in the check out line. A woman behind me
asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had, an elephant? So since
I'm retired, with little to do, on impulse, I told her that no, I didn't
have a dog, and that I was starting the Purina Diet again. I probably
shouldn't, I continued, because I'd ended up in the hospital last time.
I awoke in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my
orifices and IVs in both arms. However, I did lose 40 pounds on the
diet, so I was giving it another go.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that
it works is yo u load your pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat
one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally
complete and I needed to lose a few more pounds. (I have to mention here
that practically everyone in the line was, by now, enthralled with my
story.)

Horrified, this woman asked if I ended up in intensive care because I'd
been poisoned by the dog food. I told her no, it happened because I
stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's behind and a car hit both of
us. "

Karen Sue (Suzi) Denton (Merritt)

We just returned home from Vegas last night, but wanted to let everyone know I was thinking of Sue and her family.  My daughter, two nieces and I did a toast to Sue while we were sitting at Balleys playing keno.  I'm sorry I missed her funeral.

Not the joke I was thinking about, Ed.  But I like your story better.

Ed, you must have cleaned it up, but in any event, we have some high quality dog biscuits here and I'm going to put a few in my pocket and munch on them whenever I get hungry...see what happens.

A thank you note to the Class of '64 for the donations on behalf of Sue, from the Ehrmantrauts, received by Ann Bailen today.

Also enclosed was a lengthy note about Sue written by Angie Ehrmantraut, which was also posted on FB.  This has now been posted under Sue's name in the "In Memory" section.

Also, here is one of the last pictures of Sue taken in August, 2010, at Josh Eddings' wedding,  just prior to the accident.

Angie did a fabulous job "Saying it all".  We know Sue and Mike are VERY PROUD of who you've become! Sue IS and ALWAYS will be in our hearts!  Angie, if you're able to read and check into this site, you ARE the apple of your Mothers eye!  We know how much she loved and still does love her family and friends. She displayed her love of life, family, and friends through her beautiful smile and caring disposition!  We loved and still love you Sue and will ALWAYS remain a part of the Class of 64.  Thanks for watching over all of us!  You are beautiful both inside and out.  You'll always be with us!  We love you!

Have returned from Pittsburgh. Interesting place with some beautiful old buildings. Traffic patterns are a bit much. One of those "you can't get there from here" things.

Wanted to get back to Gettysburg but didn't have enough time. A person really needs at least two days to visit the Battle Grounds and the cemetery.

We did get to the Heinz History Center  and the University of Pittsburgh.

Ed, we won't be in Springfield this weekend. We will be in Lincoln on Saturday afternoon for their "cruise in".

Would like to get to Shannon's sometime soon.  Next Wednesday we will be leaving in the old car and heading for  the gulf coast for the  "Cruise the Coast" event. About 4000 cars spread out from Waveland, MS  through Biloxi  and on to Ocean Springs.  That will probably be our last long trip for the year.

Bill just bought a 1955 Studebaker so he has a winter project to keep him busy during the cold months.

Me, I'm just going to vegetate and try to keep warm.

Jack, the guy from Oakland school is Bill Tuggle not Scotty.

OK, thanks, but was there a seperate Scotty Tuggle, or might that have been his nickname?

09/22/11 09:21 PM #1955

Karen Sue (Suzi) Denton (Merritt)

Younger brother.  Also Dave Tuggle and I think they have a sister.

OK, thanks Suzi, I knew I pulled that out of somewhere.
