Terry, I did let my hair grow out and it was not a pretty sight!  You've got to be younger than me to have long, flowing locks!

Cheryl,

Thanks for looking to see who was principal.  I do now remember Miss Emerson.  I guess Mr. Wells was always the superintendent.  It strange how those thinks get all muddled up when you get older.  Anyway I do know that his daughter was a teacher at Jefferson and got married while so was teaching there so I think that's where the Mrs. Bergen that Jack remembers came in.  I was surprised to see those old pictures of us but it is fun to see them!! Those were fun times!

I believe we had a Miss or Mrs. Bergman PE Teacher in High School, because she taught Sex Education.  I'm thinking Ernie Prillaman asked how babies are made and she evaded the question because she was so humiliated and embarrassed to talk about it?!?!?!  Poor woman, the class put her through the mill!

Helen,

Y'all had Sex Education?

The boys found about it the old fashioned way..in pool halls :)

Yes, we were required to take Sex Education, during PE Class.  It was a total waste of time and what a joke.  The teachers hated teaching it and the students made a joke of it.  Now, they just come right out and talk and show everything without even blushing!

Rod,

You once mentioned Tom Jones so I finally remembered to ask my friend Denise about him yesterday.  Denise was once cocktail waitress to the stars (and Outfit) at Faces, a Chicago club.  She has a seemingly photographic memory.  "He was a real handsome man" she said, "great guy"... "fixated on smelling my neck" and "didn't care for his tanning though...he was one of these overly tanned guys".  Good tipper?  "Oh yeah, $200 in 1981".

Biggest "#*^hole" was Columbo, AKA Peter Falk, who was also the lousiest tipper.  That's one detective she didn't like.  Try to guess the best tipper...anyone.

No, it's not Ed, I forgot to ask about Ed.

In 1977, Tom must have still been naive about Faces.

Max - Hale left Emerson after 3rd or 4th grade, I believe.  After that, never heard anything of him until high school.

That was a rather cutting remark, about me messing up schools.  I must admit, though, I did become personally acquainted with the principals at Emerson and Jefferson.   So maybe you guys a Lincoln may have been better off that I left.

Sex Education.  I think back in the 60's at BHS that was known as PE/Health class.  But, if you really wanted answers to the REAL questions you had, then you do what Ed did.

Jack, if  you will notice in that picture of Shae the Hostess, where her arm is.  That would confirm that she knew where the Big Tip area was.  Who are the biggest tippers.  I'll take a wild guess and say that one who would be right up there is Bill Murray.  However, when it comes to Big, Big Money people, the react totally different than when tehy are in their element.  Back in the mid to late 80's, our son did an internship in Dallas, Tx.  He worked a lot of different shifts.  So, he took a job with a Limo Service.  That service dealt with very high profile people and entertainers.  He has some really unusual stories.  He's kind of a people person, so he actually had clients that would come into town and ask for him specificly.  He made some really good money, but the hours were pretty strange sometimes.  That being said, the biggest tip he ever got was from a guy who came to a Rolling Stones concert.  I forget what it was, but I remember it was more than a weeks wages for the average worker.  He got to be pretty good friends with Charles Bronson, Mick Jagger, Gregory Hines and some other people like that during that time.  Pretty Cool.

Rod ...Bill Murray is a good guess since he's a generous tipper and gives to charity.  Denise's favorite customer was Frank Sinatra who used to leave her $500 per pop.  Considering that was in the seventies, I'm guessing that's $1,500 - $2,000 today.

In those days, except for Sinatra, the most powerful guys in the establishment were not the entertainers that came and went.  They were the guys that sat at the oval bar.  Years later, when Denise got married, everybody who wasn't in jail was at her wedding.

Steve... was just kidding.  You know that I would never say anything bad about you.  I can't say that I remember you at Lincoln, as I thought I first met you when we all came to the Jr High in 8th grade.  Were there 2 kindergarten classes?  Maybe you and I weren't in the same room.  I can't remember my early teachers like some people on this site.  I remember from 3rd grade on, but not K thru 2 and I didn't keep any pictures other than some high school sports clippings from the Pantagraph and the year books which I can't seem to locate for quite awhile now.  I know I have them somewhere, but haven't taken the time to look for them.  With this Forum, if I have any question, all I have to do is ask and I'll get numerous responses.

Ed,

I just lost two hours over grits.  Fixed myself some soup for lunch, thought I'd watch the news on TV and then saw that My Cousin Vinny was on so I switched over.  Then, I decided to wait for the grits testimony, got more and more enthralled by the Brooklyn meets Alabama theme, and had to go on to the verdict.  With commercials and all, 2 hours.

Lack of discipline yes, but I just couldn't pull away.

Well Jack, I can understand. The topic was after all, grits!

On a different topic, Malinda and I got the results of her C/T scan today and the news is not good. The tumor in the liver is growing again and she goes back on chemo on Wed of next week... a different cocktail with some unpleasant side effects... He first treatment will be on our 43rd anniversary!

5+ hour chemo treatment, Then antibody treatments of 2+ hours each on the next two Wednesdays followed by another chemo treatment..

3 cycles of this and reevaluate!

She has another infusion port installed tomorrow morning.. it will be her 3rd one! She had a vein discentegrate with the first and it had to be removed. The 2nd was installed by an idiot and got badly infected and had to be removed, and now we try once again

I have been meaning to ask about Malinda over the last couple of days.  Just had a sense, and am real sorry to hear that the news is not bright at this point.  Let's hope that something positive comes out of the treatments, at minimum.

Ed,

I am truly sorry to hear this news.  Having been in Malinda's situation and also yours, as the caretaker, I understand the stress, anxiety, and unknown.  Just try to take a step back, forget about all the little things that seem important and, LIVE IN THE MOMENT.  Laugh about the past, forget tomorrow and live for today.  I'll be thinking about ya'll every day.  God's Speed my friend.
