Not to mention the good job you're doing with all your contributions too Jack.  EVERYONE needs a BIG APPLAUSE!!!!  Go Raiders!

Milan,

When we are mentioning Jack,I prseume we are talking about Jack Keefe.. that being said, you mentioned him not having a lot on his plate and getting stronger...

last I heard he wanted to work for a couple more years before retiring... this all suggests to me that he has had a health problem and is recouperating...is this the case?

Ed

I mentioned that Jack Keefe does have a lot on his plate. He had a stroke a few months ago. Still coming back from that.

An update on Sue.  She had another set back this week and spent a few days back in Springfield hospital with another flare up of pneumonia.  She is now back in Lincoln and was getting along okay yesterday...but when I talked to Mike today she was having some difficulty with her breathing again.  Mike said he'd let me know tomorrow if she was up for a visit so I'll update again if we get to see her tomorrow.

Please keep the prayers coming...this could be an ongoing problem with the damage done to her diaphragm.  I keep telling her she's got to get stronger and get home so she can go to the class get together in August.  I know she really wants to but she still has a ways to go!!!

Keep Mike in you prayers also as this back and forth stuff is very difficult and frustrating for him.  He is still not quite at 100% himself...it's been a tough 51/2 months for them!!!  The alternative however, is that we could have neither one of them with us still so we should count our blessings.  They were both very lucky!!!! God was looking out for them!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying this spring like weather...it's such a nice change!  Stay safe!

Thanks Judy. I wish the news was better. It's time for Sue to get a break. It's hard on Mike and Angie but hardest on Sue. Pray, wish, cross your fingers or whatever you do to help the situation. She needs all the help she can get.

Just seeing Jack and talking to him, I would guess he is 80% back to good health. A bit pale and a bit quiet for Jack but he's getting around good.

My last response was referring to Jack Habach needing an APPLAUSE also, but yes, Jack Keefe, Sue Ermantraut and EVERYONE is pulling together to make this site successful again.  Thanks EVERYONE!  GREAT JOB!  Glad to hear Jack Keefe is beginning to recouperate from his stroke.  As Sue Ermantraut use to say, "We only live once, but if we do it right, once is enough".  Thanks for that inspiration Sue!  Maybe we should make this our new motto???

I have been pretty lucky in life. I made a decent living and am enjoying retirement. I've made an unbelievable amount of friends in the past couple of years. I hope to make tons more before I wrap it all up. I will go fighting and screaming all the way. :-)

Still missing and we need help finding them. Any small hint could work.

Carol and Sherrill were living in New York last we knew of. Joyce Smith was in Arizona but can't find her now. Dixie Paul was in El Paso, IL not long ago but has moved.

Didn't Dixie Paul date Larry Dehart?  Did she marry him?  Maybe that's a start?  I just looked on Larry Dehart's site and it doesn't mention a spouse but did mention that he has 2 daughters. HMMMMMM!  Does anyone know if he's married and if so to whom?

Hi Milan! Now that I have caught up on all the posts I will contribute my two cents worth of whatever information and nonsense I can think of..

I believe Sharon Harrison still lives in Bloomington. Her name used to be Sharon Carter. I tried to look her up in the white pages on line. I did come up with a Sharon Carter Mayfield age 64. I think that may be her. If you find her you might find Donna Geddes.  I know they were close friends . Donna packed up her 56 Ford the day after graduation and headed out to Ft. Leonardwood  Missouri to get married.  I did see her a few years later when she came back for a visit. At that time she had one son. Haven't heard from her since. I haven't seen Sharon for 30 or 40 years. (Ooops!, I'm not really that old! Am I?)

Thanks. Dixie did marry Larry. He hasn't answered my email. They are no longer married. I'll look farther for Sharon. Good clues.

Thanks to Marilyn's help, I think we have found Sharon Harrison Mayfield. She is married to Garel Mayfield and lives at 2310 24th Street in Southgate Estates. I see no phone listing but I am confident it is our Sharon. Thanks Marilyn.

Ed, I'm glad you glad good news about Malinda.  Will keep her in our prayers.  It's hell getting old!  But it's better than the other.

I take so many pills I have 2 daily pill holders.  God one day you are fine and the next you wake up in a hospital room and you don't know how you got there!  I'm going to say something once and then I'll keep quiet.  If you smoke - please stop.  I never thought I could quit but I did.  If I can do it alot of you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  DO IT FOR YOUR FAMILY!

Judy thank you for the update on Sue and Mike.  Keep us posted.

Thank you to everyone who has worked on this site.  You are doing a great job.

Glad I could help, Milan.  I too have fond memories of working at Hubbard's. Do you remember the ketchup fight with Clay Haney? I left Hubbard's and went to work at Livingston's. Shortly after I started there so did another dear sweet lady  by the name of Juanita Jackson. A truly wonderful person I was proud to call my friend.

Thanks Marilyn. Mom was a special person. She loved working at Livingstons. I don't remember the ketchup fight but I do remember Clay. We used to go outside to the east side of the building and stomp on ketchup packets and see how far up the wall we could splash it. :)

Terry (Max) Maxwell

Livingston's must have been the place to work.  My mom worked there, also.  However it was much earlier... in the 40's or earlier 50's.

When I was at ISU, a friend of mine and I were walking back to the dorm from McDonalds and I threw a packet of ketchup on the sidewalk and told him to jump on it.  He hit it with one foot and it shot up his other leg.  He was wearing white Levis and I was on the ground laughing!  We still talk about that from time to time.

Terry, it was an art. It took lots of practice. I also had practice washing that wall. (laugh)

Suzi,

Thanks for the kind wishes about Malinda... we will know more after tomorrow when she has her c/t scan.

I know what you mean about cigarettes.I smoked 2.5 packs a day for 34 years and all my friends thought I was the one who couldn't quit. I only quit once, but it was 14 years ago when my DIL got pregnant with our gr4andson. Jr quit when she did and I decided I wouod be damned if I would admit my son could do something I couldn't do, and so I quit too.

Now, I do enjoy my cigars. Cigars however are very much unlike cigarettes. Different tobaccos, cured in different ways and not inhaled. I have a good freind who is a cardiologist and he is one of my smoking buddies.. cigars are a social event. Statistically, there is no difference at all in comparison with a non smokeer, if one smokes 2 or less cigars a day and does not inhale. I only smoke on the weekends, and am probably not gonna stop... but thanks for the encouragement

A good cigar and a glass of bourbon.. don't get much better for us southern rednecks!

Good for you Suzi !

I started smoking at thirteen and quit at 35.  It is not easy but you can do if you want to bad enough.  You just have to decide who's the boss ...you or the weed.

Chocolate was my boss. (laugh)

I used the patch and that was almost 3 years ago.  I gained alot of weight and I'm trying to loose but it's hard.   I've heard it's harder for a woman to quit smoking than a man.  Not sure why but my husband quit 12 years ago cold turkey.  He had to quit drinking two and a half years ago because of his liver, so no smoking and no drinking!  We are real boring!!!!!

We do like to travel and go to casinos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Ain't that right Linda!!!!!

03/21/11 05:31 PM #734

Milan Jackson

Maybe you aren't boring. Maybe you are comfortable. Some people never achieve comfort. We that have, are lucky. :)
