Regina (Sue) Petersen (Koppenhoefer)

Joan,  I loved looking at all the pictures, and I'm SO glad I was one of the two that were cut out!  If I remember correctly, it was not a very flattering picture!  It was wonderful to see all those young faces again, and most of them were very familiar to me.  Thanks so much for posting them!

Sue - I probably cut that out to carry in my wallet, along with whoever else was also clipped out. Can you figure it out by process of elimination? And if you can, hats off to you!

I also have my 1962 Aepix yearbook on the shelf here ... another project for another day.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Joan, thank you for posting all those photos. What a treat!!!

I'm glad you marked so many with names. Some of us are almost unrecognizable today. Maybe due as much to changing appearances as faulty memories. LOL

If I may ask, are there a couple more pages you left out? These are obviously from the 8th grade at BJHS, which I don't have. But, I do have the 9th grade book and have, with your inspiration, scanned 16 pages and tried to name everyone in them. So far, I have about 75% named, still trying to ID more before posting.

THE MINI-REUNION

Strange no one has followed up on Saturday's mini-reunion. So here is a brief report. Hoping someone has photos to share. A whopping 29 people were there, so many we had to bring in extra chairs. Yes, Sheila Cremeens was there, but didn't stay for dinner. The whole thing was a huge success. We had to drag Dave Holt and Jim Pierce out, they simply refused to leave.  The 20 classmates from '64 who made it: Denny Alexander, Ann Bailen, Charlie Crabtree, Sheila Cremeens, Suzi Denton, Mike (Jim) Fry, Diane Gardner, Madelon Henderson, Pat Hocenic, Pam Hohnstreiter, Dave Holt, Sandy Jeakins, Steve Jetton, Ken Lehr, Mike Mink, Jim Pierce, Dianne Shaffer, Marvin Theobald, Judy Winquist and me.

Just want Mike, Ray and Linda to know that I got your hugs from Suzi and a couple more. Thanks Suzi.

Sounds like you guys had fun. Wish we could have been there but sometimes unexpected things happen. Will try our best to make the next one.

Mel - The 8th grade 'yearbook' also includes 7th and 9th graders. I photographed the pages that included familiar faces, but obviously missed at least one - this group was tucked into another section. Note a familiar face front and center. I also cut someone out here; perhaps Mike Smedley.

Here are a few names from pages I didn't copy - please let me know if they were in our class: Rich Ciccu, Jerry Jones, Mike Howard, Mike Hardy, Terry Mack, Carol Jones, Bob Winger, Char Poorman, Betsy Bates, Bob DeVary, Pam Devine, Margaret Wilcox,

I'm delighted you were inspired to do the same with the 9th grade book and look forward to seeing how much everyone matured in a year. :-)

The gathering last Saturday was great fun with lots of friendly people. Many were missed, but, we had a very nice turnout. See if you can identify 18 of the 20 classmates from the pics (Unfortunately Sheila had left before the pics were taken and Madelon escaped the camera).

I must say thank you to everyone who was at the mini reunion.  Roger had as much enjoyment visiting with everyone as I did.  He was so impressed with how nice everyone was.  I also want to thank Mel for the lovely 2018 calendar.  What a wonderful gift.  I love the photos and loved seeing you.  This is my 3rd mini and plan on the next one.  Merry Christmas!  And Happy New Year everyone.  You are all so very special to me.  God bless each of you.

Joan-Margaret Wilcox and Betsy Bates was a year ahead of us.  Thanks for posting another picture.  I had been looking for Connie Singletary and found her in this picture.   I still don't find Bob Singletary.  Guess I'll keep looking.

Mel-thank you for the calendar.  The pictures are beautiful and it was such a nice gift.

The mini-reunion was so much fun, Saturday night. I enjoyed seeing the pictures.  It was my 2nd and won't be my last.  I'm already looking forward to the Spring one.  Anybody that hasn't been attending, should. They are fun and it's always nice to see everybody.

While I never had the association that many of you were able to have with Coach Bowers I feel a real sadness and loss in that there are so few of our great teachers left. The last I knew a few years ago in updating the class directory the only ones locally that are still with us are Dwight Baker, Betty Baumgardner, Charles Ridenour, Mary Selk, Carla Smith and Joyce Tarter-Bickhouse. Others that we knew were still with us were Justine Detweiler-Trout (Loda, IL), David Edmunds (Richardson, TX), Bonzie Gilbert (Arnold, MD), David Gilbert (Hideaway, TX), Stanley Holzhauer (Rapid City, MI), Jerry Maxwell (Cape Canaveral, FL), Del Swearingen (McKinney, TX) and Roger Whitlow (Charleston, IL).

These teachers greatly influenced how we developed and what we bacame in life. As a Coach, Jim Bowers was a standout to so many of us. It would be fun to see posts on some of the memories any of you may have regarding your experiences with him.

If anyone has any updates to provide regarding our teachers, please let me know.

Of my numerous conversations at the mini-reunion, one was with Dianne (Shaffer) and Roger Troxel regarding retired Bloomington firemen of which Roger is one. At the time I couldn't think of the name but Ken Kerfoot is a retired Bloomington fireman from our class and is now living in Florida. So Dianne my memory came back, at least on this isolated point. From what I hear from others I am far from alone with this recall problem.

Dave - Sorry you were not able to join us last Saturday but it sounds as if you are getting along pretty well with your prosthingy ("thetist" or "titute" whatever). Wish you could have been here.

I had Mr. Whitlow for English my senior year.  I didn't know where or what direction  I was headed at that time in my life.  He is the one who convinced me that I should go on to college.  I'm glad he did and I'm glad I took his advice.  Hard to tell where I would be today if I wouldn't have listened to him.

As for Mr. Bowers,  it seemed like  a lot of guys hoped he would stay in his office and out of the locker room before and after class.  Otherwise, a pretty neat guy to have for a teacher.

Isn't Roger Kemp also a retired fireman?

Del Swearingen died in 2015. I went to his celebration of life here in town. He was my favorite coach.

Steve Frankeberger, glad that you are doing well. So, you liked Mr. Whitlow. Honestly, I thought Miss Flinspach was your fav. I remember that you and I used to drive her nuts back in the day. Some how she survived the two of us, along with the rest of our home room. Fun times!

Enjoy the holidays.

Yes Roger Kemp was a Bloomington firefighter and he's retired.  Ken Kerfoot retired from Normal fire department.
