Michael (Mike) Franks

Linda, thanks for asking. That picture was taken a few weeks ago in State Farm's parking lot. We had a rare sunny day, so I cleaned the truck up. I do have trouble staying in the lines while parking, but not quite that bad.

I'm a coffee lover. After years of drinking nothing but strong and black, I decided to let it all hang out and do some experimenting. I found the Highlander Grogg and really liked it. Not into Starbucks, just like to hang out with old pals, over a cup or two.

I hope that the knee is healing and that you are able to do the things that you enjoy, with out any pain. I always look forward to reading your comments!

Have great St.Valentine's Day.

Hey Mike:

Thank you and Happy Valentine's Day in return!   Watch out for Eros on Tuesday.

I am having a meeting at my house tomorrow morning and just made 3 kinds of goodies to go with coffee: Banana Nut Bread,  Date Nut Cake, and an Apple Crisp that I just have to pop into the oven.  Sorry I can't send some to go with your coffee.

Thank you for asking.  My knee is doing fairly well.   I exercise every day at least twice, and weekends, 3 times a day.   It is still swelling a lot but Dr. said up to a year for that.  I had to wear heels one day last week and it worked out for 5 hours.  Guess I'm doing ok.  BUT, no way in hell or Heaven would I ever do that again!

Blessings to you!

Linda

Hey Dave, according to my clock, it has been 3 weeks since your surgery. Every day brings hope that we will hear that you, being the valiant warrior we know you to be, have been steadily achieving victory. No rush, but when you are ready, we'd love to hear from you. With patience and best wishes, you are in our thoughts.

Mel, that is a wonderful post, not only for our friend and classmate David, but it reminded me to keep David in my thoughts.

David, I too look forward to hearing from you. I hope that you are recovering and that you will soon be able to resume your activities. I know that your bride and your children are pouring out their love for you. I'm sure that I speak for all of your friends and classmates, in wishing you the best!

First of all, I apologize for posting too often on or site. Ray, it appears that you had a "wild" birthday party. No sugar? I'm sure that there is a reason, but the important thing is that you were surrounded with love and family!

Janet, I remember that you mentioned that you were one of the youngest in our class. I sincerely hope that you enjoyed a beautiful birthday, filled with never-ending love! (sugar is OK!)

Suzi, you are fantastic! You never forget to honor the members of our class. I can not imagine what our site would be, without you.

In conclusion, Tuesday is St.Valentine's Day. It's an opportunity to show love and affection. Do it! Who knows? You may just receive a little L&A that you didn't expect.

This is for our class to write anything we want and as often as we wish.  There is no contest nor a restriction to how often one can participate.  In fact, it gets mighty damn boring on the site if there isn't any participation!   Use it ..........damn it!

Linda

OK. This is my 70th. October, 28th. That cake had a lot of sugar in the icing! I only had one piece, because my grand daughters wolfed the damn thing down before I had the chance. Notice that there aren't any candles. The BFD wouldn't issue a permit for that much fire. I made up for it, because I pigged out on the ice cream! I mean.....70! That doesn't happen very often.

I have noticed that most classmates are reluctant to post pictures of their appearance these days. I'll issue that challenge. Put it out there and let everyone see who we are! I've been told that 70, is the new 40? I'm not sure about that, but I have no intention of slowing down. As for the grand daughters......I got even. I cheat at "Old Maid!"

Mike,

How lucky you are to only be 70.  I turned 71 in January.  Nice picture though.  Correction, I didn't turn 71, I celebrated the 32 anniversary of my 39th birthday.  There,  I did it.  I added something for Linda to read...

Blessings to you!

BLOOMINGTON — Arnold Lester Eddings was born Jan. 10, 1922, and passed away peacefully on Thursday (Feb. 2, 2017) at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal. Born in Belleville to Burne Eddings and Frieda Arnold Eddings, he attended public schools there until 1934, when the family moved to Mascoutah to live with his grandmother, Christina Arnold.

As a youth, Arnold was active in Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1937. That year he was selected to demonstrate scouting to the Illinois State Fair attendees who visited Eagle Village during the fair. As a father, he shared his love of scouting with his sons by being scoutmaster of Troop 18 in Bloomington for several years.

After graduating from Mascoutah High School in 1938, he attended Greenville College in Greenville for two years. After transferring to McKendree College, he became interested in the study of geology under the tutelage of Professor S.M. McClure. He then transferred his interest to the University of Illinois, where he earned the position of draftsman to Dr. H.R. Wanless, world-renowned geologist, graduating in 1942 with an B.S. in geology.

He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 for pilot training. While stationed at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Okla., in 1945, he met Wilma Janzen at the USO club. He was discharged in 1945 as a B-25 pilot, and married Wilma on Nov. 18, 1945. They returned to Illinois, where Arnold and Wilma continued his education at the U of I, where he received his M.S. in geology in June 1947.

He was employed by Schlumberger, an oil field service company, for 12 years and was assigned to many locations, including Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Illinois.

In 1959, Arnold joined Country Companies Insurance Co. and moved permanently to Bloomington. In 1972, Arnold became an independent agent until his retirement in 1996. While with Country Companies, he earned the All-American Award 12 consecutive years. He served as president of Bloomington-Normal Life Underwriters Association and also president of Young Men’s Club during its 50th year anniversary.

Arnold and Wilma were founding members of Calvary United Methodist Church and served in many capacities during the expansion and growth of the church.

They were also very active in the foreign exchange student programs in B-N, beginning with their first “son” from Finland who attended BHS during the 1964-65 school year, and continued through to the ISU program where they were a host family for a total of 25 students from around the world. Many of these students remain in contact with the family today.

Arnold leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Wilma; his son, James Michael Eddings, Bloomington; daughter, Sandra Eddings Dralle, Normal; grandson, Joshua (Laura) Eddings, Hudson; granddaughter, Katherine Dralle, Indianapolis, Ind. He was predeceased by a son, Phillip Arnold Eddings (1995).

Arnold was beloved by all whose lives he touched.

His memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the church parlor.

Memorial donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church or the Prairie Aviation Museum.

Thanks, Steve. I'm happy to hear from you. I have a lot of fond memories of those days in home room, when we drove Miss Flinspach crazy! I hope that you are doing well and enjoying your retirement, along with your family. The years have passed too quickly.

Thank you for all the Birthday wishes.  Yes, I am the youngest, its a long story, but basically, when we moved to Bloomington, the school district was in a different part of the year then were I came from,  It was okay until I got older.  When classmates where starting to drrive etc.  my mother would not let me be involved in most of the social activies because of my age.  Now it sure doesn't make any difference, maybe, I am catching up.

Mike, you're challenge is irresistable. Unlike you, when Marv and I turned 70 in August, his son (the one hanging over his back) threw a mega-party complete with two cakes and 140 candles. Amazingly, no one called the fire department. We were so engaged with family, old neighbors and even a few HS classmates, that I never had a bite of cake. (Photo by Jack Keefe)

HAPPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO THE CLASS OF 64!!!

Anyone remember the shoe boxes we decorated in grade school? Construction paper hearts, white doilies held together with smelly paste and slits cut in the top. From kindergarten through 6th grade at Oakland School, we placed them on the cabinets in front of the windows, distributed our cards addressed to all classmates and had cookies or cake. The cards were mushy and sentimental, the ink had a certain cheap odor, and the glue on the envelopes tasted awful. So, in celebration of those nostalgic day's...HERE'S TO MY OLD CLASSMATES.

This is Kaboo.  We live with him.  How many of you have pets named by your grandkids.  Linda wanted more traffic on the site, so maybe this will generate some interest.
