Linda Bristow (Elias)

Columbus Day is being celebrated on Monday.

In El Paso, I heard an adult ask who it was named after.  Oh dear!

It is with much sadness that I have to tell everyone that Carol Teagle passed away peacefully Friday evening. She was a will be missed by her many friends.

Marcia's news of our loss of Carol Teagle is very painful. I spent much time at her house in HS and remember her family with special fondness. When John Kennedy was assassinated and BHS closed that terrible day, instead of going home, Pat Summers, Marv and I went home with Carol. For decades I hoped to see her at our class reunions, but for her own reasons, she never came to one. So part of my saddness is over never seeing her again after HS. I will always remember her as she was then. Sad as this news is personally, it makes me even more grateful for our reunions. This is a very sad day. I hope she knew how much she meant to us. She was very special and I will continue to remember her as a good friend. RIP Carol.

Marcia Rodwell:

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Carol Teagle.  When I last spoke to her and asked if she was coming to the 50th reunion, she said that she quit coming to them.  She chose to meet up with you and a few friends instead.  Carol mentioned how nobody spoke to them when they had attended a reunion.  We would think that at this age people could speak whether they recognized them or not!  Good grief.

I'm putting her in my evening prayer tonight.  Thank you for letting us know.

Love to all,

Linda

Sorry to hear this about Carol, Marcia.

Here she is at the 1994 pre-reunion at BBC.  I distinctly remember that smile and an animated wave from her as I was sitting across the room.  I sat at various tables.  I do remember finally talking to her, but briefly and from a standing position, asking her about Sheldon, where she lived etc.  Had I known her feelings at that time, based on Linda’s comments, I would have plopped my butt down.

Thanks Jack.  I think most of us would.  I think personally, that social graces should extend to the entire group when we are getting together.  No more clickish baloney y'all!  If you don't know them, meet them!

Linda

I just read about Carol.  I'm so sorry to hear about this.  I don't remember her at the reunion.  I sure would have talked to her.  I spent the night at her house serveral times.

I also went to prom with Sheldon when I was a sophomore.

RIP Carol 🌾🌾🌾 πŸ™πŸ»

I'm not going.  I am at a quilting retreat so I can't go. I'm sure I will see some of her family soon so I will let them know. Thanks

Suzi,

I love that you are promoting Breast Cancer Awareness. My mom died from it. Our BHS Class of '64 has reached an age when these terrible diseases are affecting our families and ourselves. For ten years I've been a dedicated activist in the fight to end Alzheimer's Disease. Whatever any of us choose, it's usually because we have been directly or indirectly affected. I'd love to hear from others about what they are doing.

My donations go to Breast Cancer, Alzheimer's, Feeding the local poor, and  the Rescue Mission.  We have a lot of homeless people here.

Good for you Linda. Most of us have been very fortunate, both because of the quality educations we got at BHS and our careers. I've known you to be very generous in all the things we've done as Raiders, so it doesn't surprise me at all that you would do the same where you live. We all make a difference and seeing Suzi's post made me wonder what others are doing. This is our greatest opportunity to demostrate who we are and what we have become.

I just saw Mel's comment on the great education we all got at BHS.  Nice timing Mel.  Today on MSN they listed the most educated city in each state.  Bloomington was listed as the best in Illinois. Go Raiders.

Mel, you are right about being affected by something.

Dave and I help support Breast cancer, St Jude, and we buy six to eight kids winter coats.  I'm forgetting something but I'll think of it later.

Steve it was good to see you on this site.

After looking for a year, I finally found Dan Shidler's obituary and it is posted under our In Memory section. Also Carol Teagle's obituary is there too. Dan Woodard found that one and sent it to me. Thanks Dan.

Janet (Jan) Hitzner (Fries)

In response to Mel and Suzi's inquiries as to what others are doing in support of Cancer research or other such organizations here is what Denny and I do.

Cancer;  American Cancer Society, we support, Relay for Life we have been active in that for about 19 years.  (WHY) We are on the Survivors Committee, which is starting to gear up for the coming year.  Denny is a 19 year survivor of Non-Hodgkins Lymphomia and has had a stem cell transplant.

We both serve on various groups as officers, Denny is a past president on the Board of The Children's Foundation (formerly Lucy Morgan Home).  We have been active with this group for well over 30 years.

We both run a Blood Drive for the Red Cross of The Heartland 6 times a year at the Bloomington Kinghts of Columbus and are also active with several other groups.

Thanks so much to everyone in what you do to help others.
