Allida Frisch (Altemus)

Hi Linda, we are on vacation with the whole family right now for ten days in Florida. I would imagine other people are too. Summer seems to be a very busy time of year for a lot of people. I noticed too that not many people are posting lately. Hope your summer is going well. Also hi Suzi! How are you feeling? Hope everything is going well with you.

In my spare time, I have done some reflecting upon our generation. We had the honor of being the gate-keepers of the "American Way", as we knew it. Our time is passing at warp speed! I have had to accept the fact that I am no longer an influence, but just another old codger that is blocking the progress of a new generation.

My children know more than I ever dreamed. They are polite, they tolerate me, they let me hug my grandchildren, and they are probably glad when I leave.

We picked up the tourch. We defended our country. We made sure that many wrongs were made right. Our generation left something to build upon. I suppose it's time to let it all go and hand off the baton.

I'm not ready to be put to pasture, but that isn't decided my me. Did our parents and grandparents have these feelings?

Linda, we're here!. We may not communicate as much as we used to, but I'll bet that we will always have each other in our hearts. Go You Raiders!   (Janet, congatulations on 50! I always had a secret crush on you.)

Hi Boo:

Wish I could be there when you are!  I'm supposed to go to the mini reunion in August.  However, yesterday my left knee started giving me issues.  My right knee is bone on bone.  Looks like I'm going to get a knee replacement followed by another.  I'm trying to hold out until Christmas break for surgery.  I'm sure that losing weight would be a good thing to do!  (It gives new meaning to 'taking a load off').

Hope you have a great time!

Love ya, Linda

Thanks Linda. We are having a great time although I am wishing for cooler weather or at least lower humidity.

Hi Allida, sure hope you guys are having a great time.  Have you guys been keeping up with the cubbies and cardinals?  Right now I'm enjoying it but as my dear unsweet husband says the season is not over.

I'm doing good.  I still have several doctors appointments, but those are routine.

You stay cool and I hope to see you in August.

Hey class:

Any and everyone who has had a knee replacement:  Right knee needs replacement.  Left knee just crashed and burned!  What do you all know about having both knees replaced at the same time?

Looks like I won't be able to come up to Bloomington in August afterall!

Linda

I have had three over 12 years. No problems with recovery. But 10 years after my first one, I damaged my replacement so I had to have it replaced. I did them one at a time. But Tom Rockwell from the class of 1963 got them both done at the same time and he was back walking fine in no more time than it took me from one. If I had it to do over, I'd have done both at the same time. Good luck. recovery is more up to your drive to get it done than anything. Work hard with your therapy and it's all good.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Linda, I have several friends and relatives who've had it done. The procedure is so much better than it used to be and recovery time is far shorter. BUT, those who chose to do one at a time ended up either postponing or cancelling the second. Taking their advice, if I am ever in your situation, I'd choose to do both at the same time. Milan's advice is spot on.

Sorry you'll miss the Aug. mini-reunion. l will too. Taking my son to Russia for 3 weeks. Maybe by Dec. you'll be kicking your heels up and we can both join the rest of the class for the Holidays.

Happy 4th of July to everyone !!!

Milan and Mel:

Thanks for the info. No more metal in the replacements.  Plastic and last 30 years.  I guess that will be long enough for me.  At least I won't set off alarms at airports!

I was hoping to last until Christmas time to have it done.  Now it looks like September.  I'll drive over to Tuscon or Phoenix and have it done.  So many here have to have it done up to 3 times before they quit getting infections.  That let's out the home town!!!!!   Don't like experiments on me!!!!! (or half-ass jobs).

Love ya all,

Linda

Linda, you may not remember me, but I live in Scottsdale, AZ and have numerous friends that have had joint replacements.  There are some really good Orthopedic Surgenons here in the Phoenix area.   FYI.

Good Luck,

Denny

Hi All,  wishing everyone a belated happy birthday to all those I've missed . 3 weeks ago I had my 13th surgery on my left knee.  This was the 3rd replacement - 1st one came loose, 2nd one became infected, this one is just a fixed rod with antibiotic beads imbedded in the cement in addition to 8 weeks of infusion therapy.  The 14th surgery will be another replacement knee.  Linda, good luck with yours.

Thanks Dennis.  Yes I remember you!

David: Good luck!  Bless your heart!

I have found a sports medicine group in Boulder, CO that I am definitely going to use.  My daughter lives 7 miles away.  They worked on her knee and she is back to running 10 miles every other day.

Thanks everyone!

Love to all, Linda

Hi Suzi,

We had a great time on vacation! Returned home on July 4th. I don't like being in the real world. It was so good to spend so much time with the girls and grandkids. Everyone had so much fun. Glad you are doing well and hope to see you in August too!

Boy, I was just reading all the lastest messages and am sorry to hear so many are working through knee surgeries.  I wish you all good luck with this.  I really need to check in more often.  I am entertaining my 10 year old grand daughter this summer and am so busy with her I am too tired to get online unless it's necessary.  We have been on a few trips visiting our kids (Texas & Maryland and we also have had company returning to Bloomington (my sister Elaine Texas and Roger's girls Texas).  I guess this place will always be home to them no matter how long they have been away. I sure hope you all have had a peaceful and blessed summer so far.  I promise to check in more often.
