............and Memorial Day is upon us! Remembering but still celebrating a 3 day weekend. That's ok. We're still alive and we should be able to enjoy living.

I'll never forget sharing the dissecting table with you in Mr. Mohler's biology class. You were alway a little squeemish about the frog cadavers, but it was the day he hypnotised you that is most memorable. A half dozen students volunteered to be his subjects and you were the only one who fell under his spell. Following his post-hypnotic suggestion, you went back to your desk and a few minutes later stood up and said to the whole class, "I love biology." Such memories should be shared on birthdays. All the best to you on this speciall day.

Thanks Milan and to those who sent privates, e-mails etc.

Much of my day has been chasing down freebies. Started out at Starbucks for my free vente sized Flat White and also free chorizo sandwich. Then some errands, and later, instead of flying to Paris, I decided to drive to Downers Grove to get my free chocolate cake from Portillos. Can't just go to Portillo's for cake, so decided to add some sides; namely, an Italian Beef with giardinera, some fries and a DIET coke.

Jack, how the hell did you reach the big 7-0, after eating all of that junk food? You must wash it down with expensive beer? Have a double bacon cheeseburger and a few Chicago style hot dogs and celebrate! Damn the arteries.......full speed ahead!

Now Mike, didn’t you see I emphasized DIET coke in capital letters. That’s the key. Damn those that say DIET is even worse than the sugary stuff because it tries to fool the system and the system doesn’t like to be fooled so it pays you back with weight gain. (Actually, there’s no coke or stuff like that in the house anymore, so maybe that’s the answer as to why I’m still walking around.)

But if you’ve been to Portillo’s, you understand that you don’t just go there for cake. You have to have some sides, and when you’re hungry, few things hit the spot like a finely seasoned Italian Beef. That’s why they have lines at the drive-through.

Suzi: Thank you. The kids and grandkids all came in for a week and we had a ball! Now ....I'm exhausted. During their visit it was more that 100 degrees every day. That made it difficult to do anything outside........so swimming and lots of towels and food prevailed!
