Somehow, I just don't get around to all the things I intend to when I get up each day.  Posting on the message forum is one of those things.  I am planning to attend our 50th Reunion...but not sure how I'll get along with all the old people.  laugh  It should be a blast.

Our next to youngest daughter got married about 10 days ago and I have a picture of all our kids, spouses, and grandkids for the first time in 5 years.  So delighted to have everyone in one place, I just have to share it.

If more youth is required for the reunion, Holly, I could always send down Dee’s 90 year old aunt Eleanor. Here she is grooving with her 80 something kid brother “Puggy” at her birthday party. Dick Butkus lurks in the background. I’m not sure Puggy knew where he was, but he knew what to do. He was at one time south suburban Chicago’s premier running back and an excellent baseball player, called for try-outs with both the Bears and the Sox. An interesting story I picked up at this event was that Puggy had a HS dispute with a top future mob boss ( not mentioning names even though he’s dead). As was customary in the neighborhood, they went to a boxing gym to settle matters, where Puggy knocked him out…cold. There were no repercussions later, probably because of respect.

The activities began after the 60 somethings put money in the jukebox.

Eleanor joined in.

As did Puggy.

And another aunt, 97 year old Billie (no kidding), seen here leaving the floor, got into the act...cheated with a walker though.  And you wonder why some people live longer?

I got a reunion reminder in the mail today.

I sent in my form a month or so ago, along with a check that has not cleared my bank.. Are checks being held until closer to the date or is the committee just messin with me??

Jack, the youngsters from Dee's family are indeed an inspiration.   Something doesn't look quite right about that guy you say is Butkus lurking in the background.  Maybe I can get my brother-in-law to take a look and see what he thinks.  He played for Palatine against Butkus back in the fifties.  He was 6-6 and about 300 pounds when I first met him.  Needless to say, I accorded him the respect he merited.

Ironically, Steve, the speech (Dee’s cousin) at this event, 1 ½ minutes, was critiqued as not being long enough, since it was a combined birthday party for Eleanor and Jason, as well as a graduation party for another relative.

About Butkus. Since you wisely extracted yourself from Facebook so you could have more time for your retirement, you’ve been somewhat out of the loop. I’ve been the victim of about 5 false Butkus sightings in the last 6 months. Here is one of my FB posts:

“Butkus again.......couldn't make this stuff up. I'm sitting at McDonald's at Yorktown enjoying a 64 cent seniors' coffee. Guy comes up to me and asks "how many times have you been told you look like Dick Butkus?" "When you walked in, I said to myself " holy &^%$ that's Dick Butkus." This despite that I've lost a few pounds.....apparently not enough."

” 6’6”, 300 lbs. is a serious size, enough to make the real Butkus feel like a scrawny guy with persecution complex....nah. Trying to figure out why Palatine would be playing CVS, across town, but maybe a tournament. I do know a County judge who went to Brother Rice who said they used to taunt Butkus all the time, in ways that included trying to win his then girlfriend (now wife) over their way. They had “friendly" scrimmages with CVS, but had to stop because they hated each other and police had to be called too frequently.

I loved the pictures Jack!  As we get older, I love seeing people whose bodies may age, but whose spirit doesn't.  I am hoping that I am becoming one of those people!

I am getting excited about our reunion next month.  I honestly can't believe it has been 50 years.  I don't feel like it's been that long until I look in the mirror or get out of bed in the morning. smiley

See you all in a month!!

Jack:

Loved the photos.   It reminds me of my 8 siblings.   They are all a lot older than I am.  My oldest sister is 89 and still wears high heels and goes dancing.

Holly:

I'll be glad to see you at the reunion.  Pleased that you're coming!

Linda

Yep, the mirror, the camera and the bones say the body goes for sure, but the mind can say not so fast…..in some people. A lot is attitude. “I’m curious about tomorrow”, said my mother in advanced age.

Just look at Holt at his 68th party yesterday.  Not a scratch on him.  He took Geritol.  Sorry I couldn't make the bash, but I sent flowers.

Hi All,

I just got the reminder postcard about the Reunion.  I'm confused - so I don't need a tux?  As long as the sleeveless shirt has a collar and my cargo shorts come down to my knees, it's good enough for Bloomington Country Club?  Things have sure changed from when I used to caddy for E.D. "Big Daddy" Biddle at BCC.  Although he was a lot more fun than Judge Smails - more like Tye - the restrictions in the club were pretty intense.  Monday's were caddy days, though, and it was a pleasure to play there as a change to playing at Highland Park.

Anyone remember Big Daddy?  He was about 5' 7" and was pushing 350lbs.  He had a 4" extenson on his driver and absolutely crushed the ball.  When asked why the extension by a reporter from the Pantagraph, he said "look a me son, I had to make a decision - either to go under or over it - as I damn sure can't go around it" referring to his girth.  Great times being his personal caddy and flying to events in his private plane.  Oh the stories I could tell....

David, I worked with him at Biddle Advertising and later in life, he married my sister!

Sunday August 3rd, 2014, Jan Russell Alexander from the Class of 1963, her husband, and her son will be in town. Her son is giving us a semi-private concert at Evelyn Chapel at Illinois Wesleyan University 1301 Park St. The concert will be at 3pm. There is a slight charge of $10 per person. His music is how he makes a living. This is very cheap for a private concert with a professional musician. You can hear James Scott at jamesscottguitar.com. This is the name he uses as a musician.

After the concert, we will be having dinner at Avantis on East Empire St. across from the airport. We have a reservation for their private room from 5:30-7:30. Mary Selk will also be attending. We do need an approximate number for Avantis as well as for the concert. Please let me know ASAP. I know this is short notice but it is a special event just for us. I know this is close to your reunion.

Please contact me at milan52@yahoo.com to let me know who is planning to attend.

Jack, you were wondering how Palatine could have played against CVS and Butkus.  Well, Elaine was talking to her brother the other day & I had her ask him.  Turns out, they didn't play.  Darn!  The truth always gets in the way of a good story.

Now I'm not sure where I got that idea, but I've had it in my head for awhile.

Must admit, Dave does look good for his age, hasn't changed much at all.  Holt, I mean.  Not Dave Long ... based on the picture he's using, he's more in tune with the rest of us.

Steve, the corners just didn’t connect on your Palatine vs. Butkus story, but it takes a big man to admit a mistake of that magnitude.  I’d say bigger than Biddle and your brother-in-law combined.

Now Holt always took Geritol.  You remember the product.  Drank it by the gallon in college while we were drinking Falstaff and Thunderbird.  He tried to get me on it, but I considered it’s benefits a myth…..just like your story.
