Milan Jackson

Sunday August 3rd, 2014, Jan Russell Alexander from the Class of 1963, her husband, and her son will be in town. Her son is giving us a semi-private concert at Evelyn Chapel at Illinois Wesleyan University 1301 Park St. The concert will be at 3pm. There is a slight charge of $10 per person. His music is how he makes a living. This is very cheap for a private concert with a professional musician. You can hear James Scott at jamesscottguitar.com. This is the name he uses as a musician.

After the concert, we will be having dinner at Avantis on East Empire St. across from the airport. We have a reservation for their private room from 5:30-7:30. Mary Selk will also be attending. We do need an approximate number for Avantis as well as for the concert. Please let me know ASAP. I know this is short notice but it is a special event just for us. I know this is close to your reunion.

Please contact me at milan52@yahoo.com to let me know who is planning to attend.

Jack, you were wondering how Palatine could have played against CVS and Butkus.  Well, Elaine was talking to her brother the other day & I had her ask him.  Turns out, they didn't play.  Darn!  The truth always gets in the way of a good story.

Now I'm not sure where I got that idea, but I've had it in my head for awhile.

Must admit, Dave does look good for his age, hasn't changed much at all.  Holt, I mean.  Not Dave Long ... based on the picture he's using, he's more in tune with the rest of us.

Steve, the corners just didn’t connect on your Palatine vs. Butkus story, but it takes a big man to admit a mistake of that magnitude.  I’d say bigger than Biddle and your brother-in-law combined.

Now Holt always took Geritol.  You remember the product.  Drank it by the gallon in college while we were drinking Falstaff and Thunderbird.  He tried to get me on it, but I considered it’s benefits a myth…..just like your story.

Terry (Max) Maxwell

Jack... did you ever consider Geritol and vodka shooters?  May have solved the problem.  Could have still been a stud like Holt and drunk at the same time!  You should have opened a "Fountain of Youth" bar and made some serious cash.

Max, now you tell me this? Of course I considered what you suggest, but well after the fact. Sitting here with greying hair and disrepair (Burma Shave material), I lament what might have been. Those evenings spent at the Captain’s Cabin, the Library Club, Cecil’s Place, the Bellaire Club and Barney’s Caboose were a complete waste of time.

James Scott is a solo finger-style steel string guitarist. His love of the guitar began at the age of 13 and truly began to take hold after studying with Nashville based Jazz-Fusion-Classical Guitarist Stan Lassiter. That is when he saw the true potential of the instrument, the sonic and emotional depth the instrument had to offer. "My Dad also played an interesting role in my musical life as well. He's had this uncanny ability to steer me in directions that have ultimately led me to being the musician I am today. My Dad is the one that turned me onto Stan Lassiter as well as Windham Hill Records, the label that gave the world Alex DeGrassi, Michael Hedges and Will Ackerman, three of my biggest influences as a composer for the guitar."

Having a background in jazz, avant-garde, blues, bluegrass, and Celtic music, James Scott has been working towards synthesizing elements of each of these genres of  music into his own personal vision. "I strongly feel that the role music plays today is not the role it was intended to play. It was never intended for music to be a distraction. Music is the highest of all art forms because it deals with vibration. Everything in the known universe is vibrating. Therefore, everything is music. The role of the musician is to help tune people to higher frequencies of thought and emotion. As humans become more disconnected from the natural world, and simultaneously more technologically advanced, we lose touch with the essence of who we are and that truth that we all have originated from the same source of everything. We are also losing touch with our own humanity. My intention is to reestablish those connections. I hope this music fulfills these roles of connecting people back to themselves and the natural world. This music encourages you to reflect on life, your relationship with others and the planet. And, I hope it encourages you to dream."

He will be playing for us August 3, 2014. See the announcement.

As of yesterday we have 109 paid and 2 teachers with a guest totaling 112 so far.  We know of at least 6 more that plan to come that have not confirmed yet.  I suspect we will have in excess of 120 attending.  Things are shaping up and should be a very nice event.  Over 70 have inicated they will be at the Friday mixer and at the Sunday brunch.

The RSVP request due date  of tomorrow is not a cutoff date, but is to help the committee in our planning process.  If you plan to come to the Saturday event at BCC please get your RSVP in the mail as soon as possible.  There is no cutoff date, so even if you register last minute we still hope you will join  us.  Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Recently the Class Creator system experienced a technical issue resulting in sporadic slow loading of pages and "service unavailable" error messages. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and your users.

I'm happy to report this afternoon the issue is fully resolved. We are grateful to the IT folks for their diligent efforts in resolving the problem and returning us to standard operation.

marvin,

just wondering, there is a group of us classmates that have motorhomes & 5th wheeels and would like to bring them.  Do you think BCC would let us set up in their parking lot????  That way if we party to hardy we won't have far to go to crash.

would appreciate a response, thanks

07/27/14 05:52 PM #4526

Milan Jackson

Sure Judy. Park them on #6 fairway. It's a long par 5, so there is plenty of room. :-)

Judy

I will get confirmation tomorrow, but I am very certain that BCC will not allow camping in their parking lot.  I have checked internet and there seem to be few places in the area for RV camping.  There is one in Carlock called Kamp Komfort (309-376-4411) about 14 miles from BCC.  I assume you will need power and water hookups.  I live at Heritage Lake about 25 miles from BCC and we have a private campground with some hookups available for Association Member guests and I believe they charge $5 per night.  Let me know if this is of interest and I will try to get more info.

Marvin,

Thank you for your response but actually I was just messing with everyone.  My husband & I have been going to BCC for years and know they wouldn't allow camping in the lot.  But .we do have a group that will be camping and do have reservations at Kamp Komfort.

And Milan that was exactly what I expected from you,  LOL

Looking forward to seeing all in a couple of weeks

Judy

Judy-

No harm done, but I was making an honest effort to accommodate the request.

To All-

In the process of researching the camping question I contacted BHS.  I talked to the Principal and made tenative arrangements for a 1 hour BHS tour by the Principal Saturday morning August 16. Please post any thoughts or interest any of you might have in doing this and if there appears to be enough interest I will confirm the tour with him. I need to let him know by this Friday if we want to have the tour.

07/28/14 11:50 AM #4530

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Marv, count me in. I'd love to do the tour. Should be a nostalgiac walk down memory lane and spur lots of stories from those who join in. The very thought of you talking to the principal makes me think of Mr. Wheeler standing on the auditorium stage with his shining bald head reflecting the overhead lights like a mirror.

Judy, sounds like your crew may need a designated driver. Too bad Milan won't be there, I can't think of anyone else who could handle the responsibility. LOL

Vicki Keller (Leary)

Marv, I would be tenter estrus in the tour Saturday morning

Judy,

Why Kamp Komfort - there's all that green space across the street by the tennis courts.  I believe they've been upgraded and you no longer have to put in $.25 to turn on the lights.....

Dorothy and I will be camping at the Doubletree - can't beat the chocolate chip cookies - anyone else staying there?
