Tonight was the drawing for $325,000,000 Powerball Jackpot.  I had the Powerball and the Power Play I paid for  enhanced my win!   Wow..............$12 bucks.  So much for that thrill!

Has anyone upgraded to Windows 8? It's a whole new ballgame. I may need a 6 year old to walk me through the learning curve.

Mike:

When I bought a new computer a few months ago, my techie advised me to stay with 7.  He said too many changes were in 8 and they weren't always stable.  Good luck!

Mike,

I'm on board with Windows 8 and agree it's a painful process but as you get the feel of it, things begin to flow.  I used my daughter and son-in-law to help get me into the 21st century, 12 years late.

Holly,

Of course you noticed I didn't mention the Big Game when discussing your grandchildren's future enrollment and I appreciate you not reminding me in your retort.  However, you missed one important point about Stanford football.  We all know Stanford really beat Notre Dame earlier this season despite the travesty of the ref's call at the end. The Stanford runner was never down nor had forward progress stopped; he scored.  Perhaps the Cardinal should be playing Alabama?

Does being a grandmother of twins mean you only have to work half as hard?

11/29/12 02:20 PM #3450

Harriett (Holly) Rust (Wood)

Thanks for the kind words about the Notre Dame game...not only was he never down and forward progress never stopped...replays of the second down show the ball clearly in the end zone and Taylor NOT on the ground.  But what can you say...touchdown Jesus reigns supreme in South Bend.  But I agree...I think Stanford should be in the top 4...but I will take the Rose Bowl.

The twins are great, but the organization is greater.  1st baby awake nurses, handed to Nana, friend, aunt, whatever to burp and change, baby 2 nurses, baby 1 back to mom to "top off", Nana, friend, etc. change and burg baby 2, baby 2 back to mom to "top off", Nana, etc. put baby 1 to bed, mom puts baby 2 to bed  Repeat in about 2 hours.  Exhausting, but fun.  They do have a "night nurse" to help while Molly recovers from the 2 surgeries she had to undergo after birth complications.

Anyway, we are all enjoying the new babies.  My focus for the next 26 hours is on beating UCLA.  Got all the rain gear togetherr as it is supposed to be nasty.

Victor, I'm glad you're doing better.

Suzi, how are things at your house?

OOPS!  Forgot I was baking and a bad smell is coming up the stairs!!

Jerry,

There is another way to look at things.... at least Stanford will not get the bejesus kicked oput of them if they were unfortunate to tangle with the TIDE... don't believe me/... ask any Auburn fan!

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Ed - I hope things in your life are settling down.  It will never be the same, but at least you have a great support group around you.  And, I'm right there with you on the Tide.  I can't say i'm a full blown "Bama" fan, but i do think they are the best team in the nation.  Every time the BCS makes a change, it's messed up.  But then, look at the Big 10.  What a joke that once great conference was with their championship game.

Vic - It's great to hear you are home and doing better.

Suzi, It seems your caretaking goes on.  You are on a journey, but hopefully, it will end soon with good results.  Take some big deep breaths and keep the faith.

Mel, you do look, well, different in that suit.  But it looks good on you and having your wonderful daughter next to you doesn't hurt.

Holly,  My mother was a twin, and I've heard some pretty funny stories over time.  Little Ezra has a great smile and looks really happy.  He has no idea what he is in for until those little girls get to be 3 or 4.  He is in for a life change.  Even in that picture.  They look like they are looking at each other, just trying to see how much havoc they can raise for the guy next to them. Ha!

Jack - Poor Camacho can't even get buried without a fight.  I guess you saw where a fight broke out at the viewing, and, they have to take him to NY for another viewing.

Well, this has been quite a morning for me.  I turned 66 back in April.  However, i applied for my SS just today.  So, I guess that means that I am now retired.  What this really means is that I will now have two part time jobs.  Domestic Engineer and MORE golf.  I can't wait for my first check. Maybe now I can become more flexible with time and get back to B/N a few times a year.

Gotta go.  Ya'll take care now.

Rod

Rod,There is hope for you yet... all Alabama fans are praying for your conversion!

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Well Ed, I move east more and more.  I mean, The Big 10 - Maryland and Rutgers - Really.  Football is bad enough.  Maryland might be 50-50 in basketball and Rutgers can forget about it.  I still take a look at Texas, but Mack Brown needs to get out of coaching.  I do like TCU,, because of Gary Patterson.  Unfortunately, they will have good years, but i don't see them becoming a year in and year out powerhouse.  Like the "BEAR" always said, " I want my boys big and I want them fast".  If for some reason the Tide plays ND, I not only will be for the Tide, but I hope they just absolutely destroy them.  As you see I'm not a big ND fan.  When all the Bowls are set, I'll let you know what I think.  Oh, how I hope your Tide plays ND.

Hey Jack, there is a BIG fight coming up.  What do you think. --- The Pac Man?

11/30/12 08:17 PM #3455

Michael (Mike) Franks

Ed, I lived in Alabama (Huntsville/Redstone), and I remember Ala. vs. Auburn. That was bigger than Christmas! I think that was about the time Forrest Gump played. I always thought that neither of them could win in the Big 10. Things change. I still think Notre Dame will kick ass. Does Alabama still offer a degree in jock strap sniffing?

Ed Stanfield

Mike,

If you had gone 75 miles West, you wouold have een in my homnetown of Florence...

A note about Alabama/Auburn...

It is not a rivalry as we understand it.. it is a bloodletting!

For years the game was played at Legion Field in Birmingham because it was neutral terratory, equidistant between Auburn and Tuscaloosa. When the game resumed at the respective universities, death threats occured that were taken seriously..

I had a brother whowas an Alabama grad and a sister who is an Auburn grad... they did not speak on that weekend and my father threatened not to let her in the house, but said she would have to sleep in the shed!.. He was serious

11/30/12 08:50 PM #3457

Michael (Mike) Franks

Ed, I want you to know I was teasing. Alabama and Auburn are two of the finest schools in the U.S. Huntsville, had some of the prettiest girs I ever met. As a matter of fact, one of them caused me to have to go to the post despensary for 3 shots of penicillin! I was a GI. I fell in love pretty easily.

That is "girls"......Sorry,I got excited!

Rod.......I did not know about the Camacho funeral fiasco until you mentioned it.  Something about two women who thought they were number 1 girlfriend.  I saw Camacho here in Chi in the early 90's.  He was over the hill already. He later turned into a bum, robbing an appliance store or something.

As for Pac.......Marquez is his Joe Frazier, and he (Pac) will have to do something definative this 4th time.

Holly...........did not see Notre Dame-Stanford game, but after mentioned here, I looked at the controversy.  Could not get a good reading on 2nd down, but looked at 4th down 6 times and concluded each time that he got in...of course I did not hear any whistle for stopped forward progress and it did not look like he was ever stopped till the ball crossed.

Ed......I watched Georgia-Bama yesterday.  Crimson Tide a very good team, but I have a funny feeling about ND, of whom I'm not really a fan.  Like Bama, they have an excellent defense...so that will be interesting.  After the long drought, I think ND really wants it.

Jerry......Bears overrated two weeks ago against SF, underrated last week against MN, and I'm getting ready to go out and see this week's rating.  Cutler-Marshall are a smooth combo.

Overall, on college football, I'm thinking if the top ten teams could all play each other, there would not be a single undefeated team.  I would bet that.

Linda Bristow (Elias)

Today was my last Board of Directors meeting for our El Paso County Historical Society ( I affectionately call the Hysterical Society).  I have decided to permanently retire from serving on any more boards.  Stick a fork in me........I'm done!

At the end of my report, I reminded them that this was my last meeting.  Then...announced that I was quoting Porky Pig.....'tatatata that's all folks!'

It felt good!

I'm sure many of you have experienced some things that you have 'retired' from!  I hope you enjoy your 'retirement' too!

Blessings to y'all and happy holidays!

Linda

Congratulations, Linda and  here's to a long and happy retirement from us working class stiffs.  The good news is the light at the end of the tunnel.  A tout a l'heure.

Jerry - If the trade rumors I am hearing in the Winter Meetings come about for the CUBS, things could change.  They might actually be in the race till sometime in July.  MAYBE.

Jack, I think you're right about the upcoming fight with Pac.  For him, it's entirely about the money and the championship really is secondary at this point.  I don't think I would pay to see it.  Three times was enough.

Now ED.  I'm counting on "BAMA" to absolutely pound ND in the Championship Game.  If that happens, I will send you a signed, notorized copy of a letter giving my allegience to the Tide for the next three years, with a one year option after that.  Remember what I said earlier about the Big 10.  Here you have a team that only lost (1) conference game and they get beat in the championship game by 40 points, giving up 70, to a team who was .500 in their division.  If Stanford happens to lose to Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl, they should be ineligible for post season the next year.  Anyway, ROLL TIDE.

Has anyone heard from Steve Huber?

I was on the board of McLean County Genealogical Society but resigned this month. I am still a volunteer at the museum but the board position just didn't hold my interest. At this age and being retired, I just don't feel like committing to something that isn't fun. :)

Also, I have written to Steve Huber but have had no answer. I hope things are ok with them.
