Jerry and Milan:  I am not retiring yet from working.   I love being a mediator (not so much arbitration though).  As long as I can communicate well and be successful, I intend to continue.   Now.......if I get weird or funny strange, I will need to stop.   Hope that I can make it to 75 to keep myself entertained.   It feels good to help people.

Blessings to you both!

Linda

The Giants have pretty much re-signed their key players and might very likely pick up Brian Wilson.  Good news is their starting rotation and bullpenn are intact.  Maybe this year they'll be able to hit.  Just remember October in San Francisco is beautiful.

Agree Alabama will roll Notre Dame but clearly Stanford belonged in the game having beaten ND and would match up well with the elephants.  However, the Rose Bowl is the dream of every Pac 12 team except the professionals at USC and again the Pac 12 team should dominate.

Should K-State my alma mater control the ball through time consuming methodical drives in the Fiesta Bowl, they might hold Oregon to under 80 points.  That one will be brusing.

Watch out for San Jose State in the Military Bowl!

Cal hired a new coach named "Sonny".  The Golden Bears did pretty well under an old coach named "Pappy" (Waldorf) who coached K State then Northwestern before coming to Cal, so let's see how the young lad works.  He has inherited a completely new facility and refurbished Memorial Stadium.

Less than a year to the World Series.  Go Giants!! In the meantime, Dungeness Crab season is open, Mavericks is ready, Sierra Snow is good so lots to do.

Hey all of you computer geeks!  Please tell me if I need a techie to help me.

As a fund raiser for my historical society, I sent a photographer to take pix of our smokestacks that are going to be toppled.  Then I will select a few of them to be painted and sold as original art, for the historic occasion, as a fund raiser.

I received the disk that is supposed to have 132 pix on it.   I cannot get it to open.  Help please!

(Doesn't this sound like WJBC's Problems and Solutions?)

Appreciate any and all input.............Linda

Michael (Mike) Franks

Linda, I'll assume you solved your pic problem.  Did you open with MS Office Picture Manager to view? I'm sure that you know that you may have to return your disk  to the people that generated it ,and ask them what program they suggest  to open. I'm sorry to hear that you can't open your pics. I've had the same problen with pics sent from cell phones.  They are there, you need to open with right program. Return your disk, have them open it. I wish I had a better solution. GOOD LUCK!

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Linda,

I have several thoughts on this but as Mike said, the problem may originate with the photographer. However, there are several possible reasons why you can't open these photos. If they were sent as jpegs then there should be no problem. Please send me an e-mail or let's talk on the phone and I will try to walk you through this. THERE IS AN ANSWER...and I would like to know more about your fundraiser. Sounds like a terrific idea.

Jerry Collins was really Jerry Clough and I loved Problems and Solutions. Now that I think of it, that may be why I became an artist. Really, that makes no sense but it sounded like a good idea at the time.

And for Ed, Max and all the others who commented on my monkey suit....don't worry, I have returned to my normal look as a floppy eared post-traumatic Elmer Fudd.

Vic, you keep doing what you are doing because we need your stream of riddles and nostalgia. Hope you are getting back to a complete recovery.

And finally, Hollywood, Holly Wood or Holly would....those twins are super and I love that you are so there with them. Marv and I were born under 3 lbs. each and there are numerous sagas of how our grandmother and aunts worked around the clock shifts to keep us alive. You deserve a medal for being there with them. This is the stuff of family legends. Bravo to you!!!

Michael (Mike) Franks

Mel, I hope you were able to help Linda. Picture Manager usualy opens JPEG, TIF, or PNG file extentions, but there is no way to know how they were installed on her disk. As you know, it can get complicated. I use Firefox as my browser and it doesn't open images the same as IE......the list goes on. That's why I suggested having the people that made her disk, oen it and maybe convert all to JEPG. I just like to view pictures of my grandchildren. I hate to have to put on my "geek hat" in order to do that. I'm sure that Linda feels the same way. Thanks for helping Linda.

Hello y'alllllllll......

....and Problems and Solutions ruled.  Thanks.   I ran over to my friend's son, who burned the cd, and now have them comfortably on a flash drive!   Works well!

Thanks for the efforts!

Ho ho ho to all...........Linda

Hell has surely frozen solid!

The court of appeals has ruled unconstitutional the ban Illinois has had on the carrying of firearms for personal protection outside the home... The legislature was given 180 days to craft a concealed carry law that is constitutional... Quinn and the Emperor of Chicago are weeping and probably biting their nails...

I can legally carry in 34 states, soon I will be able to carry in my home state...

Ed:

License to carry..........just one of the reasons I live where I do.

Michael (Mike) Franks

Ed, you know guns don't bother me. "Lock and load!" Cell phones and texting are a lot more dangerous than guns ever were, and no one seems to care about that. Keep your bullet in your shirt pocket. Keep your muzzle up....and down range. Fire for effect!

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Linda , Problems & Solutions was a hoot.  My parents absolutely never missed that show.  I always thought of it as a way for people who had nothing better to do than vent about something.

Jerry, you are right.  The Giants will be a tough contender again next year.  I just wish the Cubs had their pitching staff.  The Rangers staff could be pretty tough next year also.

Well Jack, a real barn burner with the Pac.  But, he made that one big mistake.  Now number 5 is in the works.  Isn't there someone else out there.  I mean, isn't 4 enough to have beaten this dog to death.

Whoops - gotta go.

Keep an eye on the Dodgers in the west. They aren't done yet.  :)

Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Dodgers?

BEAT LA!!

12/13/12 05:33 PM #3479

Milan Jackson

Crawford, Eithier, Kemp in the outfield.

Gonzalez and Hanley Ramirez, Skip Shoemaker, and Dee Gordon in the infield.

6 proven starters. And still spending money like the Yankees. :)

Giants just brought back Andres Torres from the 2010 championship team. It's all over. Better break out your black and orange beads.

GO GIANTS!!

12/14/12 12:01 PM #3481

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Milan, I agree with you that the Dodgers seem to want to be a big player next year.  But I think the Giants still have the best pitching for the long haul.  On PAPER, the World Series is already set.  Giants vs. Angels. The Angels are putting a team together that could score more runs in one season than ever before.  Watch out for those Cubs.  They are actually making a move to get a real pitcher.

Hey Ed.  Good news for the TIDE.  Their QB will be back next year.  Won't enter the draft.

Jack, Did you see that Larry Merchant is leaving HBO Ringside.  Finally.  He knows his boxing, but these past few years, he just really wears me out.

I see the Bloomington Blaze, ( you know, the Hockey Team), are off to a better start this year.  Since Gary Bettman has made it his priority to not have an NHL Season this year, I have to watch the CHL on TV and go to the Brahma games here.  They play the Blaze here in January.  I plan to go with my Make Shift Blaze Jersey and scream and yell for the Blaze.  I'll have my Brahmas Hat with me just in case I need it to calm the troops, Ha!  I know several of the Brahma Backers, so they'll know it's all in fun, I hope.

Gotta Go, Rod      GO BEARS

Sorry guys, sports today became insignificant.

Jerry, I so agree.  Prayers to all the familys in Conn.

12/14/12 07:07 PM #3484

Linda Bristow (Elias)

Suzi:

I agree.

I pray that you and Dave receive the Blessings of Christmas.  I want you to receive only good news.

Right now there are a lot of holiday parties to attend.  I know I can't show up at them all.  But, I lost weight, then gained it back.   I have no idea what I can get around my blasted HIPS for these events even if it is trivial.

I also pray that nobody has anything worse than weight gain to deal with!  We can deal with weight if we have to but you can't get a child back.

It is so difficult to deal with the death of a child (who's personality is embedded in your family) that is a part of your everyday life!  Those poor families will have years and years of sorrow ahead of them.  I pray those families will get to see their children again in Heaven some day.

We need to make our world a better place.

Love to you at Christmas.

Linda

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Jerry, you got this so right. Linda and Suzi, your thoughts and prayers reflect those of all who have heard today's news. For the occasional talk of guns on this web site, I get it. But I live in Chicago and the horror which took place today makes it so much harder to understand and accept. All those children and their families, I cannot comprehend their loss. There is nothing so silent as tears.

Oh Lord, PLEASE allow PEACE in hearts of those who grieve until we meet again!

Mel,

With respect, can you not see any correlation between the fact that Chicago has one of the most draconian firearms laws in the country and also has one of the largest murder rates as well? And the vast majority of those murders are by people using guns... guns that are already illegal to posess outside the home in Chicago.

Those who own firerms have a responsibility to use them responsibly. If they do not, it is not the fault of the gun, but of the person who holds it.

12/16/12 12:34 AM #3488

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Ed,

With equal respect, as I said before, I get it. This could be a long conversation, but we are talking about the senseless deaths of children and others. The gun debate will persist, but these fragile lives will not. I have shed tears over this in the past day and I am not alone. There is no reason for anyone, I mean anyone, to have the right to possess assault weapons. There are guns and there are GUNS. Legal or illegal, conceal and carry, and all the other terms used to defend the 2nd Amendment rights simply cannot make us safer and are at the heart of this division of feelings.

I know you and many others believe deeply that this is a sacred right, but there are others of us who believe that access to these weapons exacerbates the problem of violence. There is no short term solution to any of this. Statistically in the U.S. nearly half of all deaths by gunfire are the result of homocide, while more than half are suicides. Most of the remaining few are the result of accidents related to gun possession. Only a minuscule portion are related to self defense, which is the illusion most people have when they decide to possess guns.

As in the case of nuclear weapons, I think disarmament is the best answer, not the building of larger arsenals.

This isn't our debate alone, it is a national and global debate. This isn't simply a matter of personal feeling, it is a matter of logic in protection and prevention. As much as I respect you, we infinitely disagree on this point.

Chicago's violence in spite of "draconian" laws is fueled by the fact that all our neighboring communities and states have refused to enact equally harsh measures. And now the courts have ruled against Chicago's gun laws as unconstitutional. Let's see what our law makers do after Newtown, CT.

My heart aches for all those who have lost their chldren, family and friends. My tears have been for them.
