Sorry to hear about Cheri's mother:

BLOOMINGTON — Dora M. “Dodie” Wombacher, 87, of Bloomington and Englewood, Fla., died at 6:25 p.m. Nov. 2, 2012, at the Venice Regional Medical Center, Venice, Fla.

A private family service will be held in the mausoleum of Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, with the Rev. David Halt officiating. There will be no visitation. Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60635.

Dodie was born on Aug. 18, 1925, in Coos Bay, Ore., the daughter of Harry A. and Carrie D. Glisan Sherrill. She married Robert C. Wombacher on Feb. 18, 1944, in Coos Bay. He died Aug. 28, 2000.

Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl A. Welch, Bloomington; a son, Robert R. (Teresa) Wombacher, Englewood, Fla.; six grandchildren, Ryan E. Wombacher, Chicago; Jennifer A. (Jim) Sikes, Bloomington; Reed Welch, Bloomington; Carrie Welch, Bloomington; Tessa B. Watts, Denver; and Brandon P. Watts, San Clemente, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Molly Sikes, both of Bloomington; a sister, Ina, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; a brother-in-law, Jack (Marilyn) Wombacher, Englewood, Fla.; a nephew, John (Patty) Wombacher, Bloomington; and a niece, Lynn (Bruce) Risen, Columbus, Ohio.

Dodie grew up and graduated from schools in Coos Bay, Ore., and was of the Episcopalian faith. She had many friends and never met anyone she couldn’t get along with. She loved her time on the beach in Florida and spending “the season” with Lee, Jack and Jean, Hank and Wilma, Bryn and Kathy and all her friends at the beach place.

Dodie always loved a good book, a glass of wine, Fox News (especially Bill O’Reilly) and a spirited political conversation. She also loved going on road trips, having lunch or maybe having an early cocktail with her good friend Billy Smith. Dodie also was an avid Chicago Bears fan and Brian Urlacher lover. Her friends and family will really miss her, but we all know she is in a better place — look out, R.C.!

Harriett (Holly) Rust (Wood)

My youngest grandson Ezra (2 3/4years) became a big brother on Nov. 9.  His brother Cassidy and sister Sage arrived a few weeks early, but healthy and precious.  They make Thanksgiving even more meaningful this year!!

I am thankful to have rediscovered all of you and renewed my interaction with you.  I hope you each have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family, friends, and feasts!

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Since sometime in August, I have only been on the site for a few minutes.  As I look back over the pages, I was very saddened by all the bad news.  It seems the cycle of life is taking its toll.  I have just been extremely busy with family matters, (good things), but very time consuming.  And, I've had a few downs myself.  In the last couple months I,ve had 4 or 5 Mohs skin cancer surgeries.  It's not a life or death situation.  However, it has put a huge damper on my Golfing.  And that is not a good thing, Ha!  As Linda can attest to.  Down here the 100 plus days are gone and this is the great time of the year for weather.

Had dinner with Terry and Di Snow last Sat.  They are both reired and doing OK.  In the last year Terry has had both knees replaced, a shoulder opened up and worked on.  He goes in a few weeks to have a foot operated on that has given him extreme pain for awhile.  But, he is doing good.

My wife spoke with Di Troxel awhile back.  She said things were touch and go for awhile, but she is doing really good now.

Mr. Habich.  How about Carmen Basiio.  I think I saw him fight Gene Fulmer at least 100 times on Friday Nite Fights back in the day withm my Dad.  Those were always brutal fights.

As for you Mr. Plummer.  I am still a huge Cubs Fan, but I also know that by May every year, they are out of it.  I was really happy for the San Fran Giants winning the Series.  I love to watch their pitching. But, come on man.  Did the 49'ers have to rough up my Bears so bad.

I suppose all the Horse lovers were surprised at the Breeders Cup.  Well, if you read all news and then hunt between the lines, it wasn't as big a deal as some people thought.  The real surprise was when Baffert's horse just plain quit.

Steve Jetton.  I'll try to get you on the ballot this winter for the Old Timers Wiffle Ball Hall of Fame.

Gotta go for now, but I'll try to keep up better.

Rod

Rod,

Ah, the fighting Mormons, Don and Gene Fullmer on the Friday Night Fights, on black & white TV.  I remember those times well.

You're right, it seems like Gene was forever fighting Carmen Basilio, but he also fought names I remember like Dick Tiger, Paul Pender and I think beat Sugar Ray Robinson for the middleweight title.  The brothers were tough as nails and always coming forward, and their faces looked like it.  Don just died this year of leukemia.  Seems like many of those guys don't live long.

Linda Bristow (Elias)

Holly:  You have a beautiful family!  Blessings to you and your's!

Rod:  Yes.....you're right!  Here I have a beautiful spring, fall, and winter.  Thank goodness we don't have much rain here.   I dislike getting my shoe collection messy!  (If that isn't high maintenance and prissy, huh?)

Love to all, Linda

Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Rod,

Thanks for the kind words about the Giants and your loyalty to the Cubs is understood.  Curious, but understood.  No crowing coming from San Francisco, however. It took us 52 years to get our first Series trophy.  I recall going to the 2002 series and watching us crush the Angels and then thinking this one is ours. What a disaster.  However, still have the hat.

Chicago Bears are (usually) overrated.  Chicago hasn't won at the Stick since something like 2005.  Niners did look good.  I liked Kaepernick when he was at Nevada.  Cal traveled to Reno a couple of years back to play them and Nevada with Kaepernick handed them their hats.  Hard for a Cal fan but one of my daughters attended Nevada so we had to show some support.

NorCal is getting some rain which is putting snow in the Sierra.  Time to put away the clubs and break out the skis.(K2 210s if you need to know.)

Holly, Congratulations on the new grandchild.  Perhaps a future Golden Bear?

Happy Thanksgiving Day to all from the Plummer clan and keep hanging in there.

Harriett (Holly) Rust (Wood)

Hey Jerry,

I love all the NorCal sharing but you forgot a couple of important things that happened last weekend:

Stanford Women's Basketball beat #1 Baylor and became ranked #1 themselves

Stanford Football defeated the AP #! Oregon Ducks and will hopefully beat UCLA Saturday and head to the Pac12 Championship game

Stanford Women's Soccer advanced to the NCAA College Cup quarterfinals last Sunday

And the twins most likely won't become Bears...their mommy has 3 Stanford degrees, but Cal would certainly be a worthy second choice.

My family is scattered for Thanksgiving...upstate NY, TX, WA, OR, CA but the majority will be here for Christmas so I am counting that as one of my blessings.

I know it has been a challenging year for many of you and I am thankful that you have weathered these challenges with grace and good humor.  God bless you all!!!

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Hey all you sports fans, I for one predicted SF would kick the Bears in the rear. Didn't expect the total defensive break down. This might be the first time all year the defense didn't score a touchdown. What's that all about? You California guys are cornering the market on good athletes and the Niners played a great game with our former Harbaugh in charge. Illinois' football has been even more embarassing than the Bears. We could use some good news around here.

Glad to see some of you back on this site after some time off. Holly, as a twin I may be showing my prejudice, but congrats on the grandkids. They look great. Their brother looks like a giant next to them.

In a fit of self indulgence, I want to share a photo from my daughter Devon's wedding last week. It was a near perfect event except when my ex started heckling me during my brilliant toast to the bride and groom. Only lost my spot for a few seconds and ended up with a nice applause.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL OF YOU!!!

Terry (Max) Maxwell

Good to hear from Rod again.

Gramma Holly... Congrats!

Jerry... I know your skis aren't new.  I skied on K2 200s for many years.  Try and find a pair that long now.

Mel... Don't listen to Ed, you clean up real good.

Ed... Glad the boys and their families will be there with you tomorrow.

Wishing the entire Class of '64 and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Mel:  Your daughter is just beautiful!   Hope you enjoyed her wedding.

Max:  I wish you could see my grandchildren ski.   They have been skiing since they were 2.   They are also in gymnastics.   Of course they go down all of the most difficult slopes.   But I am amazed at the flips and spins they can do on skis.  They are now 13, 11, 8.5, 8, and new one.

Happy 'dia de gracias' everyone.  Linda
