In case anyone wonders what happened to the music on the Home Page, playlist.com screwed it up.  We'll have to see what other avenues are available.  Here is what I get off their web site:

QUESTION:  Will the new site allow and embed-code to share playlist on blogs and/or websites since the old-site codes are now useless?

Best Answer

Playlist.com Jun 02, 2012 10:37AM PDT

Starting June 1st, music playback on the embedded (off-site) music widgets may be restricted. It's a tough decision we had to make and we apologize for any inconvenience.

You can of course still listen to your free music playlists on our website at Playlist.com.

Cute Milan:

However, I already know how to get out strawberry stains!   I'm trying to find a really good strawberry pie recipe to use for a meeting in June.   I'm making 6 desserts.   I want one to be a strawberry pie like we had in Illinois.   My sisters don't really have that recipe.

Thanks.

Linda

Who was it that had great strawberry pie in town? Woolworths? Steak n Shake? It was a surprise because their food was pretty common but their strawberry pie was exceptional.

Hi Milan:

It was Woolworth's.  I went on-line and that is one of the recipe's that is not available from the Woolworth collection.  Thank you though.

S S Kresge's was known for their delicious Strawberry Pie too. I use to work there, while in high school, and sold lots of them. People liked them so much, they ordered them ahead of time. MMMMMMMMMMM YUM YUM!

Now that life has settled down a little for me, I'll try to get back on this site more.  Some might not think that is so great, but what the H---.    I was really busy the first of the month with my Mother passing and all.  My daughter and her husband sold their house very quickly, (that was good), I thought.  But then they had only one place to move into.  My house.   That was good, I thought, and that was back in the first of April.  They just got their new house ready and moved last week.  That was really good.  My wife and I haven't had anyone living with us for 20 or so years now.  We thought, this will be great.  The daughter, son-n- law, and the two WOUNDERFUL grand kids for a short time.  Oh, and the golden retreiver also.  I forgot what is was like to be invaded by school functions, birthday parties, other people's kids in the house, Cub Scouts, baseball practice, baseball games, soccer, wrestling, and basketball in the house.  Bike riding, skooter riding, and skateboarding.  It was also a learning experience.  I became a good Monopoly player again.  My right arm is shot from playing catch.  I know all the names of the characters on Spongebob Squarepants, Power Rangers, Dora, and many others.  I know the Cartoon Network channels by heart.  The dog absolutely loves me more than he did before.  I spent about 60 hours working on the new house the past 2 weeks.  That was really fun.  Now that school is out and the pool is officially open, the boys want to be here all the time to swim.  All in all, it was all good and things are calming down.

Now Linda, don't let us read about you going down in the desert in that helicopter.  Problems and Solutions.  I haven't heard that in a long time.  My parents used to listen to that program every day, without fail.

A little belated, but it was sad to hear about Tobi S.  I remember her and she was a pretty great little gal.

Stress must be a factor at this age.  I come home from the funeral, work on the kid's house, get my house back under control.  Then I go out to play golf with my senior group that I play with a couple times a week.  Our team always finishes in the top three.  I shoot the worst score since I was a teenager and we finish out of the money.  How discusting.  Now I know how Jetton feels when he can't beat any of his Senior players.

I watched the Derby and the Preakness.  Thank god I didn't have a chance to bet.  I would never have bet the winner, but after the Derby, I was pretty sure he would win the Preakness.  But now we'll see what he is made of or if the jockey really does know that horse.  HIs best competitor, Alpha is out of the Belmont.  There are still a couple of horses I think will beat him.  Bodemeister will be a flop I think.  Union Rags could be a good bet if he gets a good post position.  Dullahan will be my pick, but Paynter could be the sleeper.  I'll Have Another doesn't realize how long the Belmont is and the jockey has never been there.  If he has an outside post spot he may run himself out getting to inside.  If he has an inside post spot, and doesn't get out quick, he could get blocked in.  This race is not about putting the burners on at the end and passing everyone else.  He has to pace himself and have enough left to servive the stretch run.  There will be a couple other good horses and smart jockeys that have been there before.  We will see.  My money would be on Dullahan right now.

Ed, good to hear things are going good for you and Melinda right now.

Suzi, ya'll keep hanging in there too.

Thought our classmates should know that Dave Coit (Class of 64) was injured in a motorcycle accident on Mother's Day. He was flown via helicopter to Springfield Trama Center since they were very concerned about him. He ended up with a broken collar bone, 4 broken ribs and one shoulder crushed. He was the only one invoved in the freak accident failing to make a curve and hit a curb. $3000 worth of damage was done to his Harley and a years worth of recovery for him. Thankfully he will be ok, however it will be a long road to recovery. It was pretty scary and he's ready to sell his bike once it's repaired and he is able to ride it one last time before selling it! He's recovering at his girl friends house, thanks to her willingness to stick by him through all of this.  I'm certain that prayers will be appreciated.

Roger and Dianne Shaffer Troxel were also in a bad motorcycle accident. They are recovering but it's going to take some time. Dianne was always one of my favorite people. God bless these people.

How awful for Roger and Diane! When did they have their accident? Guess we're all trying to stay young, but killing ourselves doing it! It's time we all settle down and accept who we've become! Prayers never end!

What is going on here? I have been in touch with Judy Walker who was in a terrible motorcyle accident on May 18 and has been hospitalized ever since with all the fingers of her right hand broken, back and hip injuries and a severe concussion. Between her, Dave Coit, Dianne and others, enough is enough. All this in the span of two weeks...what is going on? There are no logical answers, but we aren't kids anymore and this is definitely the time to let everyone know that we care about them.

The only good news is that none of their injuries seem to be life threatening. Love is a funny thing, but I would like to say that I love all of them and wish for their full recovery. Please know that you are loved by all of us. That is something of a mantra and I hope all of us continue to share it. We have so much to share even from a distance.

So sorry to hear about Dave Coit, Diane Schaffer and Judy Walker. George & I had a Goldwing years ago then after Denny Alexanders accident we decided to sell.  My Son has a Harley & lives down the street from me.  I hear him every morning when he leaves for work (well before I crawl out of bed) but I always say a prayer for him to be safe.  Will keep them in my prayers also.

I am so sorry to hear about all these accidents.  I hope they will recover with little or no problems.  I guess like a lot of guys, I thought about the thrill of a motorcycle.  But I saw too much too early.  Jerry Lane and Patti Perry flipped right in front of my parents house when I was in Jr. High.  Jerry was killed.  Then several years later, a guy on a Harley cut right across a truck with a snow plow.  I was on the right side of the truck.  Very ugly experience.  I had a hard time driving for awhile after that.  Then my younger brother-n-law got killed on a bike.  Then a friend of mine I was working out with at a gym, left one night.  The next morning I found out he laid it down and hit his head on a pole.  Killed instantly.  I lost my desire for riding after that.  My son has owned 3 bikes.  My daughter and son-n-law both rode till the boys came along.  Now it's just him and he has 1 bike and 3 dirt bikes.  Go figure.

To answer your thought Mel.  When we were young, most of us had a lot of financial responsiblity with everything from a house ,raising kids, and just living day to day.  Now we're older, not as much financial burden, and more extra cash.  So, live like you wanted too when you were younger.  Maybe not the best idea sometimes.

Linda, my wife and Diane are very good friends.  They e-mail back and forth quite a lot.  When my mother passed back a month ago, we couldn't get any answer at the house and no e-mail returns.  We didn't know about the motorcycle wreck.  But we knew something must be up when she didn't call or show for the funeral.  Her and my mother always visited.  I told my wife last night what was up and she right away started trying to find out what is up.  If and when we find anything out, I'll be sure to let you know.  Oh, and Linda, if that whirlybird hits the ground with you in it, you might bounce, but bouncing will be the least of your worries.

Spoke to Shaffer this morning.   They were both very lucky and are recuperating well.  It happened in Tennessee.

They were taken to the trauma care in Knoxville.

We have a Helmet Law in Colorado, however it reads something to the affect that Glasses OR Helmets are required, but that's still not enough in my book. We have a Honda 550 Silverwing, that sits in our garage because it won't start, which is probably a good thing since there are so many fatalities and life long injuries on them. Anyone want to risk buying a bike?

Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Here is the law in California enacted in 1992.

V C Section 27803 Safety Helmets Required

Safety Helmets: Required

27803.  (a) A driver and any passenger shall wear a safety helmet meeting requirements established pursuant to Section 27802 when riding on a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle.

(b) It is unlawful to operate a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle if the driver or any passenger is not wearing a safety helmet as required by subdivision (a).

(c) It is unlawful to ride as a passenger on a motorcycle, motor-driven cycles, or motorized bicycle if the driver or any passenger is not wearing a safety helmet as required by subdivision (a).

(d) This section applies to persons who are riding on motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, or motorized bicycles operated on the highways.

(e) For the purposes of this section, "wear a safety helmet" or "wearing a safety helmet" means having a safety helmet meeting the requirements of Section 27802 on the person's head that is fastened with the helmet straps and that is of a size that fits the wearing person's head securely without excessive lateral or vertical movement.

(f) This section does not apply to a person operating, or riding as a passenger in, a fully enclosed three-wheeled motor vehicle that is not less than seven feet in length and not less than four feet in width, and has an unladen weight of 900 pounds or more, if the vehicle meets or exceeds all of the requirements of this code, the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, and the rules and regulations adopted by the United States Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

(g) In enacting this section, it is the intent of the Legislature to ensure that all persons are provided with an additional safety benefit while operating or riding a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle.

Amended Ch. 32, Stats. 1991. Effective January 1, 1992.
Amended Sec. 4, Ch. 710, Stats. 1997. Effective January 1, 1998.

usually Illinois is not on the side of individual freedom, vs government intervention, but with the helmet law it is. I believe adults have the responsibility to make their own diecisions concerning their actions, especially when their actions will in on way harm another.  this is one of my definitions of freedom.. the freedom to do dumb things.

The essential question is "Who owns me?" If I own me, then I have the right to do with me, whatever I chooseincluding the right to wear/not wear a helmet, seatbelt, etc...

If, on the other hand, the government or some other entity owns me, then I must submit to what my owners require of me... I thought that question was settled a long time ago.

06/07/12 12:52 PM #3066

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Ed, I pretty much agree with you on that freedom to act dumb idea as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. And Rod's explanation of retrieving our youthful fantasies is also pretty understandable. But I don't think the issue is over helmets. Some of you may not know that Judy Walker has been an avid teacher of motorcycle safety for years and was on a "safety" teaching tour when her accident occurred. I don't know about Dianne or Dave, but I know Judy was wearing a helmet and still sustained a massive concussion. Since no one actually saw her accident, it is not known what caused it, but there is some suspicion that it may have been another vehicle.

My question of "what is going on here" posted earlier, was an expression of support for those of our friends who have been injured or are suffering physical ailments. I simply want them to know we are all concerned for them and wish them a full and quick recovery. The adventures of life sometimes bring greater risks. I come very close to getting hit by cars every week when walking to the grocery store in Chicago, yet I have to eat. I've been swimming laps with a goal of reacing 50 miles this summer (up to 5 so far in June). Every once-in-a-while, I go to the pool and wonder if I will return. So, I say to Linda, go fly that helicopter. And to everyone else, follow that dream and know that we all deeply care about you.

My guess is that none of the accidents we have been hearing about were reckless. Still, we cannot stop living our lives or our dreams. That's why I just grabbed my towel and goggles...see you after doing my next 100 laps. I'm also out of milk.

Dianne was wearing a helmet.

06/07/12 11:12 PM #3068

Marilyn Evans (Tate)

My thoughts.

If you don't wear a helmet and you leave half your brains on the street but are still alive who is going to take care of you for the next fifteen or twenty years? Your insurance and savings will go first. Then who is responsible? Your kids?  Oh, I guess the state will pick up the tab with medicare and medicaid.

Freedom isn't free and neither are hospitals and nursing homes.

So wear your helmet. If not for yourself for the rest of us.

Rest in peace Lonny Snow.
