"180 minutes of Bongo music.... isn't that against the torture laws or somethin???"

Ed, it's encouraged without penalty in IL.  A misdemeanor in TX, but a felony in Alabama.

I think you will find that in Gulf Shores, it's encouraged. (laugh)

Thank you for the address Jack.  My check has already gone in the mail to Sandy's address, however this will allow two mailing addresses for those still sending checks!  Your hard work is appreciated.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Hey....count me in as well. If Ed can come up with 5 bucks, so can I. Jack, do you also sing opera? I would pay double for that!!! Is it OK just to make a donation on the 8th at Gil's? This is worth every penny.

Rod, are you that great of a dancer or was your back going out? Couldn't tell if you were having fun or in pain because you couldn't get back up. But Suzi looked great in polka dots.

Just a word on the piano girl at Jim's. She was so great the night we were there, we not only gave her the button but made her an honorary member of the 'Class of 64'. Guess that shows we really do have CLASS. As for the next reunion, Jack and his Bongos can have the whole stage as far as I'm concerned. Can you do "Bloomington We Love Thy Name" on bongos, that is if Ed has no objections.

You guys are whack jobs, I love it.

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Jack,

I'm going to send the money like I said, but don't send me any BONGO tapes either.  First of all, in Texas, there might be one place I know of where the Bongo might survive.  Other than that, if you show up with Bongos, you'll most likely be in for real bad A-- Whippin.

As far as making a fool at the Reunion with you and Steve, I'll be right there with ya.  I used to play the Trumpet, but I'll take lessons on whatever you tell me if it will help.  I would actually rather listen to some good OLD Country.  I like the Outlaw country myself.  You know, David Allen Coe, Willie, Waylon, Kris, Gary Stewart, George Jones, David Houston, several others, and of course, anything by Jerry Lee Lewis,(I have seen ole Jerry maybe 7 or 8 times), Alabama, or the Oak Ridge Boys.  Oh, one last guy, Tom Jones.  Yes, I know, thee Tom Jones.  He puts on one of the greatest concerts you'll ever see.  Well, he's too old now of course.

Mel,

I don't know about the great dancer part, but I was having a great time.  Ask me sometime about the previous year before that picture was taken.  The wife and I did a lot of dancin at one time.  Way back, in another time and place, I was known to dance, once or twice, without a partner.  But, that can't be verified and I would deny it before God.  Oh wait, this buddy of mine, Ricky, did win $50.00 at a dance contest somewhere in Peoria once.  Our Wives thought it was pretty funny, and a lot of other people did too.  We did spins and dips and all the good stuff.   We were great and we left with the money!!

Suzi,

Apparently that was you with me in the picture.  It's been too long for me to remember, so I'll just take everybodies word for it.  I think we had a good time though.

Rod,

I know the feeling, I forgot too!  But I recognized the dress and also the ring on my index finger on my left hand.  It was given to me by my late dad (who was the greatest).  Unfortunately it fell off at Yankee Doodle when I was playing in a euchre tournament.  I never got it back.

 Rod,

You forgot Jerry Jeff Walker.  One of the best!!

My middle daughter moved to College Station last week.  She'll be teaching at Texas A&M.  She is the last of the kids born in Texas so laughs about going back to her roots.  Last night she called to say she was driving home, turned on the radio, and there was Jerry Jeff singing Back to the Armadillo.  She said she felt like she was five again.

All of you musicians have me chomping at the bit for the next reunion!

Before I answer some of these comments, I want to say that we seem well on the way to raising some funds for this website and the Class treasury.
The intent here is not to make it a contest of who gives what. We just wanted $5 or more from a good number of people in order to keep things going.  However, I think it wouldn’t be right to not recognize Linda Bristow Elias for stepping up to the plate.
Within minutes after the e-mail asking for donations went out, I got a return e-mail from Linda pledging $100. This more than covers 1 year of this website, or to replenish what was lifted from the Class treasury. I told Linda I was going to make this public, and we argued like cats and dogs over a couple of hour period. Linda, who is not even a heavy user of this website said, “I just want to do my fair share”. She was adamant about not being recognized, but I won only after telling her it would actually stimulate the process of fund raising. Don’t make me a liar.
Before I was done arguing with Linda, I had another e-mail from Cheryl Turner Hitzner, saying she had already put a check in the mail for several times the asked for amount. I knew then we were off to a good start.
Again, we are only asking for $5 per person, hoping to attract a good number of donors so that we don’t have to go begging all the time. If you don’t send anything, we’re still cool, and the website is yours as long as funded. Just remember that Linda and others make it possible.

I just heard from an obviously surprised Steve Jetton that he got $145 in already this morning;  that is, without Linda's donation.

I haven't even sent mine yet, don't think Steve has coughed up either, and some of you still have checks going in the mail, so we're coming along.  If you intended to send money but have not yet, don't stop yourself now.   This way, the treasurers won't have to bug anybody for while and the class people who plan events won't have to be a bunch of pikers.

Thanks to all for this welcome response.

Suzi,

I am sorry to hear about your ring, I really am.  Only you can relate to the real meaning of the things it reminds you of.  To some it would seem a small thing in life, but to you it was probably heartbreaking.  I almost died when you mentioned euchre.  I used to play that game for blood and guts.  No one down here even knows what it is.  Down here it's all about Domino's.  I would say that if you play a domino game, in a bar, with strangers, and they know your're a Yankee, try not to win.

Holly,

Yes, Jerry Jeff is good also.  There is Clint Black, Ricky Van Shelton, Josh Turner, THE KING - George Strait, and the list goes on and on.  I gotta say Holly,  you being a country music fan comes as a bit of a surprise to me.  That's great about your Daughter.  However, now she has to learn all about The 12th Man.  She has to learn to absolutely HATE the Texas Longhorns.  And of course she will have to listen to all those jokes that people make about the Aggies.  All said and done though, it is a terrific school.

Milan and Ed,

If the Government doesn't get things under control down here, Texas will become a suburb of Mexico before long.

Sounds like the treasury is well on the way to being solvent for the forseeable future... and nobody had to get out the bat... or the knucks or any of that stuff..

good on US!

Thank you Rod for the kind thoughts.

There's another one you forgot - Mickey Gilley.  Wow can he sing and play the piano.  I wish they would have him perform here at the US Cellular building.

I saw him in Branson, Mo.  I got to sit on his lap (drool, drool) and he signed his picture to Short Shit (my nickname).

My dad played the banjo in a band many years ago and I really regret that I didn't have him teach me to play.  He played by ear and my son inherited his ability and so did my two grandsons.
