I think I must be living in a dream world... It just registered with me that the dinner is Aug 8th and not the 6th... boy, I sure would have been wonderin where everyone was on the 6th when I was planning on coming to B'ton...

the 8th may be a little harder for me as i still have to work and since this is vacation season, I may have to cover for someone... i won't know till someone tells me.... having family work for you is like trying to control silly putty....

Will do my best..... now, where are we meeting again? :)

Jack Habich

Last Friday night I had one of the best times I ever had in the Twin Cities. After some unpleasant business down there, I went to Jim’s Steakhouse for a blue cheese burger. A very talented piano player/singer was the same as the one there after our 2009 reunion. In her briefcase, she still had the Class of ’64 reunion button we gave her then.

With her was her friend on the tambourine, a guitar player, and a very amateurish customer playing the professional 4 bongo set. I couldn’t stand it anymore so I took over the bongos. I had enjoyed playing percussion at parties over the years, but never with professional musicians.
What happened was magical. We were in sync, we were tight, and we energized each other. The customers noticed and drifted up to the piano bar. I was on a high for about 1 ½ hours. The piano player kept extending her playing time, saying that this was one of the best nights she’s ever had at Jim’s.
Fun is often impromptu.

August 8th, 2011 at 7pm, the Class of 1964 is having a gathering at Gill Street Bar and Grill. This is a restaurant as much as a bar and from what I hear, they have good food. We will be making reservations so we need a rough count of who is coming so we plan on enough space for everyone. We have several friends coming from out of state to see us so don't let them down. Let's have a good showing. See you all on Monday night, August 8th at Gill Street.

Jack - whoever plans the 50th reunion needs to keep you in mind for the entertainment.  You have several years - you ought to be able to build a good band around the bongos.  Something funky and jazzy.

there are advantages to deafness... my idea of the perfect bar is no band and a busted jukebox!

doctors told me years ago not to waste my money on expensive stereo equipment...good advice

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Steve Jetton,

Several days ago Mr. Habich made a comment about Whiffle Ball that I think sounded as though he was making light of that SPORT.  I believe you and I would both welcome the opportunity to throw a few pitches to Jack.  He also warned me about competing with a certain individual in regard to fitness.  Jack hasn't actually seen me in some 17 years, so he has no idea what kind of shape I'm in.  I think about working out at the gym 5 days a week; I want to run 5 miles every morning; and, I could pitch batting practice for the local semi-pro team here, if they would let me.  To be honest, I do throw a lot with my two Grand Boys.  And to get them ready to hit, I throw the hard ball, go to the bating cages, and the wiffle ball so they can see different pitches.  I'm sure you don't remember, but I still have a great Hook Curve and a really, really good slider.  By the way Steve, I never thought I would ever hear the Steve Jetton I knew use the words funky and jazzy.  Wow.

Steve, I think you’re on to something. Even at 68, we’ll put the funk back into the reunions, provided you use the upcoming 3 years to learn an instrument. We could hire the piano and guitar players from Jim’s, and if nothing else, you could do the tambourine. In order to try to please Ed, we’ll start out with “Sweet Home Alabama”, and by then, I will have figured out a way to put the bongos to it. If Ed still gives a thumbs down, we’ll send him to the bathroom or have him go get us a pizza while we jam.

If the reunion power team nixes our plan, we’ll do an afterhours set at Jim’s.

Ed, you must come to one of my parties.

Jack,

I would never give a thumbs down to Sweet Home Alabama, My Home's in Alabama, The Eyes of Texas or Dixie.

so start practicing!

You're on, Ed.

Rod probably knows The Eyes of Texas by heart by now.

As one of the two administrators for the Class of 1963 site, I can tell you that the generosity of the class members are crucial to a good site. Our's was very generous and I am sure this one will be too. There are so many people who have taken the time and trouble to create and grow this site. It's time for all to come together and support it now. I know you will. This is a special class.
