Thanks Linda. No worries.

Just got in from a pontoon boat outing and wanted to share a sunset photo taken about 45 minutes ago.

MARV ... I was about ready to purchase the quiet mild mannered Golden BUT my wife reminded me that at our age we need to be on a path of down sizing and getting rid of stuff and collectibles that none of our kids will want someday when we are gone or in la la land...NOT collect more unnecessary things ... so no Raider added to our family!      I will be remembering you Monday in prayer πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™ for a successful hip replacement and a speedy pain managed recovery in the days following.  Beautiful and peaceful sunset photo across your lake!  Glad you were able to cool off on a nice pontoon ride!

LINDA .... so nice to have you back on and posting again ... keep it up!  When I spent a couple weeks reviewing the last 9-10 years of posts to get reaqiainted with every one in the class that had posted, I always enjoyed your contributions what you had to say. Since I have been active I have missed hearing from you .... please continue to contribute! πŸ˜€πŸ‘

Jim- Thank you for being so kind.   If ever I am too mouthy.........just let me know!

I don't see Suzi Denton on here in these last few days.  Anyone know why?

Also, Rod Hayes, Jack Habic, Dianne Shaffer, Boo Boo Baxter, and others are missed.  Maybe they are just busy right now.

When we use this venue, we are actively communicating with old friends and new friends.  OOOOh-really living vicariously!  Watch your step, watch your step!  It doesn't mean that we're necessarily living in the past!

I heard a coyote this morning and looked out.  It was just my weird neighbor man with pink hair.  No kidding.  His wife colors it.  As his hair color washes out,.. it goes through shades of pink.  The checkout ladies at the grocery store refer to him as Santa Claus!  It isn't everyone who lives next door to Santa Claus!

Have a great day!

Love to all, Linda

Jim - I am so sorry you were not able to get Raider. He would not have been much of a watch dog but he sure is handsome.

Is today really SILLY SATURDAY? Well, several years ago Mel, in his usual mischievous mindset, had this vision and manipulated a photograph of my son taken at Mel's wedding many years ago. While it was not very respectful it actually was pretty funny. Please do not comment on the political aspect, it was strickly coincidental to the subject matter. I am sure all the guys remember MAD Magazine which BTW is still in publication. The following series of pictures demonstrate Mel's skill and genius.

Original magazine cover

My son Brent at Mel's wedding

Mel's rendition - Brent (also in my post yesterday as a one year old) has a great sense of humor and is not offended but may someday find a way to get even with Mel

After seeing Linda post again it caused me to think of many others who in years past were regular contributors and now missed !  So I went back randomly about evert 10 pages and came up with the following list of names who did have considerable input to the forum and thought I'd post the names I came up with in addition to the ones Linda mentioned.  If any of you see this .... COME ON BACK ! ! !  I for one enjoyed all your input and often interesting comments and discussions.  Now please to the current contributors don't think I meant that your not interesting ... you are ... just miss the others !

Marv,

Best wishes for you surgery,  I know you have this under control and have worked your gluts as hard as you can to take the new hip without a problem.  Having endured 16 surgeries on my left knee, I can empathize with some of the angst you may be feeling.  Know that this is a very routine surgery these days and you'll be up and walking tomorrow afternoon.  Thinking of you, my friend.

Dave

To all of you who asked, Marv's hip replacement went well this moring. He is in recovery and giving everyone a hard time because they didn't have a milkshake ready for him when the anesthetic wore off. He'll probably be in the hospital for several days since the rehab facility is near there. He asked me to thank everyone for their good wishes. More later.

Mel, Thanks for keeping us up to date on Marvin's progress.  Sounds like he is doing good, as I prayed he would.    Please tell him I'm thinking of him and hoping to see more beautiful pictures, like sunset at the lake, when he gets back home.

Found something interesting today.  We've had this finger cactus for over 25 years and it has never had a flower on it.  This morning we were closing windows in the sunroom because it was going to rain.  Susie noticed a flower on it, but it wasn't open.  We were gone for several hours and came home about an hour ago.  She was opening the windows and noticed that the flower was open.  I took this pic of it.  I think it's pretty cool so wanted to pass it along.  I'm thinking it bloomed for Marv because he had surgery today!  Maybe not... but that's my story and I'm sticking to it!  The pic is turned sideways but we"ll give Marv a reprieve on it.

Marvin:   Congrats on the surgery going well!

Maxwell:  That bloomin' flower looks almost like stitchwork!  I have never seen one like that!

Tomorrow I go into the office.  We'll see how that goes!

Hard to believe this is the last day of August.  Christmas will be here before we know it!

Love to all,

Linda

Karen Sue (Suzi) Denton (Merritt)

Glad things went well for Marv.

In today's paper in the obituary Column there was a Steve Evans.  I'm not sure if he's the one we graduated with.

Sandra Jeakins (Singletary Sizemore)

Suzi, I saw Steve Evans in the paper, also.  I didn't know him, but recognized the name and with his age thought it might be a classmate.  I looked his picture up in our yearbook and he looks pretty much the same, to me.  I think he is our classmate and the first deceased classmate for 2020.

MAX ... amazing that after 25 yrs it's First bloom and what a beautiful unique one at that.  Keep us posted on its life span and if any more appear.  Can you send a photo of the whole plant ? I'm curious exactly what the whole thing looks like.

MEL ... great to hear Marv doing fine ... tell him I wish I could figure out a way to get him a malt or shake! I thought about these on line food deliveries out ther but hospitals aren't letting random visitor in ... WHAT a DILEMA!  Still continuing in my prayers πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

SUZI ... so glad to see your HAPPY BOLD TYPE returned to the screenπŸ˜€. Hope you hang around some more!  How are you and Dave doing?  You and Dave have been in my prayers too! πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

LINDA .... hope your first day back was as enjoyable as you hoped !  Fill us in later.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Max, I can't revise your photos because I'm not a site admin, but I can download, correct and repost them. What you have is an orbea variegata, formerly called stapelia variegata. It is in the succulent family of cacti and originates in South Africa. (You can find anything on Google.) It is sometimes called the starfish plant.

What a fascinating flower it is. From what I can tell, it should bloom perennially, but that may not happen in this climate. Nice photo, maybe it will surprise you with more blooms. It is associated with the carrion plant because it gives off a disgusting odor which is meant to attract insects to aid in its pollination.

Thanks for updating us about Marv. so glad he is doing well.

Terry that plant is really something, I can't believe it's 25 years old, you must have a green thumb.

   Take care everyone,

      Liz

Judith (Judy) Winquist (Neal)

Max, That plant is amazing!! I don't think I have ever seen a plant as interesting as that one. The flower is just exquisite!  I hope it will last a long time and that you will get more blooms in the future. Let us know if it smells bad, inquiring minds want to know.

Update: Marv is doing very well after his surgery. He was up and walking down the hall twice today with a walker  putting all his weight on his leg. I am hoping it will be a quick recovery for him, but I don't want to see him doing anymore landscaping!

Terry (Max) Maxwell

Judy...  Susie smelled the flower and said it doesn't have any odor at all.  The bloom still looks the same today as it did yesterday.

Liz...  Sad to say but I do not have a green thumb.  That part belongs to my wife.  She has a violet that her grandmother gave her some 20+ years ago and it's still going strong, also.

We have quite a few potted plants that we take outside and put around the deck in the Spring and bring them into the sunroom in the fall.  The only thing I want to try to grow from a small start in a pot is a Monkey Puzzle tree.  Next time we drive to Seattle I'm going to see if I can find one.  The airlines seem to frown on my bringing one home on the plane.  I'm sure they are growing other places but that's the only place I've seen one.  They wouldn't survive our winters so I need to start small and keep inside in winter months.  Not sure of the correct name, but that's what my brother calls them.  It is a conifer. It's branches curl up like a monkey's tail.  They will grow to be probably 40-60' tall.  I will need to keep it under 12' (height of peak in sunroom).  Not sure when I'll get back to Seattle.  Maybe Wendy knows more about them?
