Hi everyone!
Wishing y'all a safe and wonderful hibernation.  You do remember what happened during the big 'brown out' in NY, albeit 9 months later.  To my 70+yo Raiders guys - Vitamin'V' is now a generic 😂!  Dorothy and I raided the library today before it closes tomorrow.  7 books and a crockpot cookbook for me, plus 6 books for Dorothy.  Several new series on Netflix and Amazon Prime.  A full supply of coffee and SPAM 😂, so one of us is good.
All the best - Happy Birthday and Belated Happy Birthday to all!

I hate to be the first to mention it, but I am surprised no one else has. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

My assumption is that we are all engrossed with the health of our families. And for those lucky enough, our children are worried about those of us in our 70s, as they should be. I am in that category as are you. My son has offered to go to the grocery store for me and even talked me out of voting yesterday, something that I have never ever failed to do.

If anything, I hope this message lets all of you know I consider you my extended family and that you are taking care of yourselves. Without going further, I'm thinking of each and everyone of you. Screw the stock market, think of your health and stay as isolated as you can until this passes. We still have more reunions to attend.

Oh, I almost forgot to say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. JETTON!!! Hope you feel our love.

Hi Mel and all!

I am choosing to continue to work.  We maintain 6 ft. of personal space.  It is hard to do that when the hallway is 3 ft. wide and our offices aare 6 x 8.   Hmmmmmmmmmmm.  Myabe this is close encounters of a different kind!

Blessings to you all!

Linda

I'm on the board of a local charity that provides meals, shelter, training and help for families and single women experiencing situational homelessness.  We have our annual fundraiser coming up in June (maybe) and this is the time Dorothy and I are usually out canvasing for donations.  Since that is out of the question right now, I'm spending my days online sending donation requests to local businesses.  I'm hoping that the places that respond will still be in business by the time our event rolls around.

Wishing everyone HEALTH and Safety!

While I have my checkbook out paying taxes - yep, no refunds this year -

How are we fixed for funds to keep the website up and running?  To whom should I send a donation?  Enquiring minds wish to know.

Thinking of all my BHS friends! Hoping everyone is reaching out via all our various media's to stay in touch and check on others.  Luckily it has been lovely, although polleny , down here. Plenty of garden work to do as well. Prayers for health to all!

Hello, all.

Been awhile & glad to see many of the "usual suspects" are posting and bearing up well during these crazy, extraordinary days.  Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Jack K, I noticed your battery reminder a number of posts back & appreciate - it's usually .... no, always .... about two in the morning when those #$!@! dectectors decide they need to notify me that a battery change is needed.

Dave, I glanced at our bank balance I think we are still in good shape with our website fund so feel free to put your excess wealth to work for your local charities.

Classmates,  please take care of yourselves.

Re: Smoke Detectors,

I hang out (or did) a couple of mornings every week with a bunch of guys with varied and insundry backgrounds  Two  of them happen to be electricians .  Had a problem with one smoke detector - thought it was the battery - changed that - still had the problem.  It turns out the smoke detectors have an active duty life of around 10 years and then they are ready for retirement.  The chip and sensor wear out - who knew.

So, after a trip to Lowes and purchasing 5 new detectors, one of my 79yo buddies came over and installed them.  Ah, a peaceful nights sleep.....except at the dreaded 3am there was more chirping!  It turns out that I missed one, the one by the furnace & water heater....back to Lowes....friend is back to install the new one, yay.....except even though I purchased the exact same as all the others, the one by the furnace is different - it's both a smoke and carbon monoxide detector - back to Lowe's - new detector is double the price but since it does twice the work it's worth it.

A LONG wink SAGA is finally complete.

Sleep well, my friends

ps: all our detectors are hard wired with battery backup

First, I am glad to know Dave is finally going to get a good nights sleep tonight. I considered saying "rest in peace Dave" but realized that might not be appropriate.

A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Steve. Hope it was celebrated in style.

Regarding the inquiry on the need for a website donation, in 2011 a request for donations was posted and generous response from this awesome class provided adequate funds to carry us to mid 2023. We are not in need of any further donations until then. Save up and we will let you know when the need arises. Thank you, Dave, for checking.

Another item to be addressed is the mailed notices for the 2020 mini-reunions. Mailed notices were only sent primarily to those who have attended events in the past 15 years or so. In creating the notices someone, meaning me, having piggy backed on a previous years notice focus on getting the details straight and somehow failed to update the tile. So be aware that that lime green card you may have received was for 2020 – not for 2019 as shown. I am sure you figured that out but I felt it need to be pointed out. Next year I will hire a volunteer proof reader. Sorry for allowing a senior moment to cause this hiccup.

Judy and I have been in the Florida Keys since Jan 26 and have decided to remain here for the duration of our self-imposed quarantine. We are stocked up with plenty of food and the all important TP. Her son, Mike, has joined us and we are prepared to survive. Hope you are all in good shape and will stay safe in this “Twilight Zone” like event. Who would have believed we would ever experience something like this?

Marv, et al;

If you have Amazon Prime - The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel; Jack Ryan (for fans of Tom Clancy books); Hunters (a little bloody but interesting from a historical perspective): If you have NETFLIX - Schitt's Creek; Fleabag; Bodyguard.

Stay Safe and Healthy!

More unsolicited recommendations for NETFLIX:

Lilyhammer - main character was in Sopranos, was The BOSS's best man, and plays in E Street band

Good Witch - if you've watched Homeland - Catherine Bell is the lead in this one - a little sci-fy

The Irishman - 3 hours - the the character transformation is incredible

Where the Money Is - Paul Newman - enough said

Merry Happy Whatever - Dennis Quad - a series

David, my long time friend, please tell me that you have NOT become a couch potato!  I get my 73 year old ass out everyday and ride my old Fuji. I look stupid, but it's a lot of fun. I will admit that this Illinois weather is a challange, but the girl watching is worth it. They have NO idea what this old fart is thinking!

Be well my friend.....The best to you.

Sorry for the typo. It's "challenge"!  Sometimes I rely too much on spell check.

Hi>Hi Mike,

Couch Potato - I think not - my days are spent in front of my computer trying to fund raise for the charity on which I'm a board member and in charge of procurement.  Given the current circumstances, this is a real challenge, but the capacity of our community to open their hearts and pocketbooks continually amazes me. I don't know what you call a guy that Sits His Butt in front of a 27" computer screen for 6 - 7 hours per day, but that is I.  My current list include 87 local businesses oall of which have different requirements for a donation request.  Can you say Carpal Tunnel - graet computter & internet, but not great keyboard & mouse location.

The phantom pain from the amputation keeps me awake quite often so I watch the tube in the middle of the night - some how those selections always seem to be of the darker nature.  That's probably because when Dorothy is beside me we watch happy ending shows from Hallmark Channel or Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

I looks like my biking days are a thing of the past, maybe.  I donated my 21 speed trail bike to the church garage sale 3 years ago - coincides with having the leg chopped.  My daughter is looking into an electric bike for me and has a friend that builds them to see if he can make the left pedal stationary so I only have to use the right leg.  If that works out, there are 22 miles of local trails to ride that i could pick up just a few hundred feet from our cul-de-sac.

Hope all is well with you and yours - and ALL OUR CLASSMATES!  A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE DOCTORS, NURSES, pharmacy, LAB TECHS, 1ST RESPONDERS, ET AL THOSE THAT ARE STAYING OPEN TO HELP US!

With fond memories and affection for all,

Dave

Glad to see Mike jump in. The website has been relatively quiet lately - hopefully the rest of our silent classmates will let us hear from them. This difficult time we are experiencing is a great opportunity to connect and let us, your old friends, know you are OK, or if not, let us know what is happening with you so we can give you encouragement and friendship. Suzi is a pro at it!!! We all share a special period of time in our lives which permanently bonds us. Let's build on that bond. Join Mike and jump in with all ten fingers on your keyboard. Let us know what you are doing to make the best of this coronavirus event? Dave has provided some helpful hints as a starting point. What are yours? Start hunting and pecking unless you got at least a "C" in typing class, then you can really make those keys hum.

Mel - While your brother is keeping an eye on Cuba for us, what have you been up to?  Did you ever get the water heater situation under control?  New carpet?  Ready for visitors?  Green Mark iced?  Talk soon!

03/27/20 12:20 PM #7551

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Dave, your little missives are helping me keep my sanity. Keep em comin. About Marv and Cuba, apparently he's doing a pretty good job. As for me, I'm doing what everyone else is: staying isolated, disinfecting everything I come in contact with, and reaching out by phone to my family throughout the day...my granddaughter even called me yesterday to do live-chat. So I got to watch her coloring in her Toy Story book. She was so engrossed, I asked her, "What do you think about when you're working so hard?" She looked at me as if I had gone completely daffy, "NOTHING! That's why I like coloring." Oh well, maybe she has the right idea.

As you and a few others know, I'm writing my second book, Time Without Dates: The Evolution of an Artist. My day's begin around 9 a.m. with coffee, orange juice, banana and the newspaper. Once I finish the sudoku and crossword puzzles, its off to the computer to check emails and Raiders64. Then I get lost in the writing for several hours. I never drink until six, which is the time I usually start making phone calls followed by dinner and Turner Classic Movies.

And you asked about my flood damage. It wasn't a water heater, it was a leak in the refrigerator. It took the insurance company 7 months to finish, but it is finally done. Pickled oak floors, all new carpeting, bed and fridge. So yes, I'm ready for visitors, including you, as soon at this pandemic dies off. Would love to hear what everyone else is doing to stay sane. All the best to you, Dorothy and all our BHS friends.

Dorothy started a page on Facebook - let's see if we get the same response here.

Post a picture of a landscape that DOESN'T have you in the picture.  It can be anything but a great landscape shot from around the world travels - since we can't be outside - let's look a the outside from others travels....

Here goes.....A Wild Horse Crossed the Road In Front of Us on Our Drive from KS to AZ.
