Tell Sue that Milan said she has to catch up in here when she gets back. We are depending on her. :)

Aaaahhh, my favorite time of the year... St. Pat's day.. I'm not Irish, and I don't attend the drunkfest downtown, but I do love corned beef in all its various forms..

Yesterday we fixed a large flat cut corned beef brisket and had it with cabbage and mashed taters. Livin high on the hog, I'll tell ya! Boy was it good, but the best part is, there is a lot left over for Rubens...

Little corned beef, some baby swiss, jewish rye, kraut, mustard, dill pickles and you are on your way to a feast. Thousand Island dressing?..no thanks, I am makin a sammich, not a salad.

Of course, a beer, or 3, is absolutley required.

Later on, with the absolute last of the CB, you can make hash..homemade hash & eggs are about as good as it gets..

just finished a late breakfast, but....

I love Ruebens. But my diet probably won't allow it. I cheat on Wednesdays now. Can't cheat too much. :)

Here in Gulf Shores, Alabama they have a pub crawl that starts at a resturant, bar across the street from our motorhome park at 9:00 Am. There are quite a few resturants and bars around here and they end up at the beach later in the day.  Complete with bagpipes and everything.  Would love to go and being Irish would make it all the better but ya know what,  I don't think I could walk that far and drink that much anymore but sure would be fun to try.

Was talking to friends here today and we were all wondering what happened to those years between 40 and 60 something, where did they go?????????????

Judy, thanks so much for the update on Sue.  It's always good to hear the good news and how is Mike doing after his accident?

Great food in Gulf Shores. Last year we had some good food at Lulu's. Even had a bargain good meal at the Shrimp Basket. But our favorite was Bahama Bob's. We stayed next door and ate there a lot. Love Gulf Shores.

Judy -  Don't worry about walking that far... why do you think the call it a pub 'crawl'?!

Well, after reading all the posts about food, I think on Wednesday at breakfast I might break loose from my egg beaters omelet and have some real food!  My card club is also this Wednesday and there is always good food there so I just might as well designate Wednesday as an "eat what I want" day!  I usually designate that for Saturday but I'll move it up this week.

I'm still trying to see how peanut butter on celery is better than chocolate ice cream. (laugh)

I don't think I am going to worry to much about what I eat until April 1st!  April fools day right? These diets are a never ending battle.  What happened to taking off 20lbs in a week in our teens?

cheryl, you always look good but let me know what size you are now, going to Fresh Produce today.  Might find a bargin!!!!!

Have fun at breakfast tomorrow, maybe you all should have a lottery for the free one.

All the talk about corned beef and Rueben's made my mouth water.  I too love the food aspects of ST. Paddys Day... but have never been into the beer part.  I am a real lightweight.  My kids have always said "Give mom a drink and you'll be entertained for an hour".  However, I do think a hot summer day on a boat with a cold beer is nice!

So glad to hear Sue is doing so much better.  Give her my best, Judy.  Rehab is always a challenge.  I shattered my shoulder last May and spent 6 months rehabbing to where it is pretty useable, but it was a long slow process.  I was a physical therapist for over 20 year and it was still hard to make myself put in the time I needed to every day.  This getting older can be a bummer sometimes.

On a different note, I am gonna do a little braggin and hopin..

Malinda had treatment #6 yesterday. Dr said her blood levels are all completely normal! In addition, on manual examination, he can no longer feel the liver. This is great news...he is not supposed to be able to feel it... so far, virtually no side effects this time around. Not at all like last year when she was doing her first course of treatments. The cocktail is a little different this time as there is one drug they cannot give her due to neuropathy in hands and feet. She can walk pain free for the first time in over a year and she has cut her pain meds from 2 morphine tablets to 1 and from 8 vicodin to 4 daily, but they are heavy pills...500 mg.

Now comes a c/t scan to see if the liver has indeed shrunk. If it has, then 6 more treatments for this course. If it has not, then we discontinue chemo and discuss what happens next. There are no radiation or surgical options.. chemo is IT!

I will keep y'all up to date!

Ed

Great news, Ed!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness for Vicodin. I'm on 4 500's per day. Without them, I'd be stuck at home most of the time. I also take Ibuprofin (800) twice a day too. All those drugs explain a lot in my case. (laugh)

Jack Habich

Great news on Malinda Ed.

This morning I talked to a friend on the phone who said " it's a bad bet from here on out".  Diagnosed with cancer last Fall, he is on both chemo and radiation and takes morphine, and all of a sudden can't walk anymore.  Less than 2 weeks ago, he was out buying a big screen TV and red furniture....and more.

All this talk about drugs reminded me that I had some very old vicodin in the medicine cabinet.  Yesterday, for the first time in months, I went to the gym and did a light workout.  Today, I'm actually sore.  So I thought..hmmm...why waste this stuff? I took a 500mg...like Milan's.....and we'll see what happens.

Jack, I am so sorry for your friend. A year ago Malinda could not walk a city block or stand for more than a minute or 2. About a month ago, she began walkin around the grocery store instead of using the 3 wheel scooter and she has even gone to the mall and walked around for an afternoon shopping.

Morphine and vicodin work differently.. The morphine seems to keep her pain free for a long period... 8 to 12 hours, and the vicodin fills in but only lasts 4 hours or so. Her doctor has pertty much given her free reign on pain meds...she can have what she needs, but she won't take more than absolutley necessary.

Ed...  Just 'checked in' today and read the great news!  Hope things continue to go well.  Malinda is still in my thoughts and prayers.

Ed, gotta be great to be able to ditch the scooter and walk around.  Some things we just take for granted....like walking.

From what I put together with my friend, his not being able to walk is not the result of treatment, but that the cancer has spread to his bones..they're getting brittle, he tells me.  This seems to have happened very quickly.  Three years ago, in his early seventies, he could do 500 push-ups..100 at a time.  So it goes.

The vicodin I took a few hours ago was 5 years old, and had no kick to it whatsoever...out goes the bottle.

Don't throw it away yet. I've been on Vicodin for 4 years. It never did give me a kick. Several times I wasn't even sure it was working until I missed a dose. It affects people differently

Don't forget breakfast tomorrow at Shannon's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again, no way I can get there... got Rotary, then gotta unhook Malinda fro her chemo pump, and finally a furniture rep comin in from Atlanta...

Jack, she couldn't walk or stand due to pain from the liver pressing on her spine, from inside the abdomen... an idea of just how big that tumor was/is

Jack, your friend reminds me of me in my prime... I could do 500 push ups too...one a week for 500 weeks...piece of cake!

03/16/11 09:37 AM #684

Jack Habich

Ed, that explains just how big a deal the liver issue is for Malinda....let's keep it out of touch.

On the push-ups, I'm in training just to get to where you were in your prime.
