Prayers for all those in the midst of this storm!Hi Linda and all, it is indeed a serious situation but we are fine, will get very wet, with major wind. We have old friends from Myrtle Beach that are right in the path staying with us for a few days. Our son Brian is in Charleston, SC, and is a doc, so staying to work. He doesn’t seem concerned. His Mom is!

I just got this from Jack Keefe today. Sorry to report the loss of Betsy Lewis Stockard-Odeneal who passed away in 2015. Her obituary is in the In Memory section. This is unbelievable that Betsy was so active just 50 miles from us and I don't know if anyone here knew about her accomplishments.

Thank you Milan.  I knew that she was in Decatur and that she changed her name from  Bessie to Betsy.  She had been so active there, that, I'm sure she made a huge difference!

God Bless her and may she rest in Peace!

To make this easier to read, I cut it in two parts:

I too remember her as Bessie. 55 years ago was a long time. I would have liked to tell her "Thank You!" for her dedication to making this screwed up world a better place. We aren't there yet, but because of people like Bessie, we are much closer. No political rant from me, just thanks, for those that teach us to love one another.

I am very sad to learn that Betsy has passed. It was my good fortune to have been able to talk with Betsy by phone in August of 2009 in an attempt to encourage her to join us at the 45th class reunion. Her husband was seriously ill then and she was unable to come. At the time she was working at a prison, but, in what capacity I do not know. I remember what a nice conversation we had and being extremely impressed with her. When Betsy left the Decatur City Council I lost contact with her and failed in numerous attempts to locate her in the following years. Her accomplishments were very significant and her courage and determination to make this a better world are obvious. I regret having not been able to have more contact with this very special classmate.

It is Wednesday and I'm still worried.  Has the water reached your house?  I pray that you aren't flooded.

Please just let us know that you are ok?

Love ya, Linda

Hi Linda and all,

Florence was, for us waiting for it,  like birthing a big baby! So slow, and very large!

But at birth, she was a blessing for SC, rain but little wind, just days of it.

Our friends from N Myrtle Beach, lost power shortly, but found the house etc fine upon their return.  Those in North Carolina had greater destruction..Prayers go out to them.

So all is back to normal until next time! We are Sooooo ready for cooler weather.

I remember how I loved Fall up North. We get it about the end of October.

I enjoyed reading the story about Betsy.  I bet each one of us has left a positive mark in someway on our world!

Boo

Thanks for getting back to us!   So pleased that everything is well with you!  It is so hard to watch TV to see everyone who is flooded.  It sure is nice that your face isn't with any of them!

Love and Blessings to you, Linda

Breaking News.   September, 2019:       President Trump declared today that last year's Hurricane Florence wasn't really all that bad. Trump said that the democrats had spread "fake news"! It was their response in an effort to "Make Me Look Bad". Of course what do we expect from a bunch of burned out dopers from California? If Nancy Pelosi would just go away............

Hi Mike:

I saw that too!

Do you remember who Will Rogers was?  He was a stand-up comedian who used Washington, D.C. for fodder for his act.  All he did was use logical reasoning to what was going on.  He would have a hard time with this stuff today.........I'm sure.

Linda

Thanks Linda. I'm familiar with Will Rogers. I just wanted to add a little sarcasm into the news with a peek into next year. I'm saturated with Mr. Trump. My heart and prayers go out to citizens of North and South Carolina.

Speaking of cool weather............

Do you remember ice skating at Lakeside with Ernie and myself?  We were in 9th grade and the then current thing was hot Dr. Pepper with lemon.  I don't know if they had other flavors too!

Love ya, Linda

Following an annual Class Committee Meeting Cookout (shrimp boil) at my house yesterday Judy and Madelon enjoyed smores by the campfire. They relied on my marshmallow roasting skills to toast them to perfection - golden brown and sagging from the fork. They started with 3 marshmallows and topped off with a fourth. We did't get much committe business handeled but we had agreat day.
