Mel and I are sooo lucky as twins to have shared mostly the same experiences together as kids. It is rare that we are together that we do not reflect on our memories of those experiences. Our memories are not always in tune but without question we savor those times. Joan's recent posts make me realize how all of us share many of those great memories. Remember penny candy such as rolled up strips of liquorice with a red bead in the center to look like a record, sugar water filled wax bottles, dots on paper, peanut butter logs and wax lips? How about games such as Careers, Battleship, Cooties or Jax? Those Valentines Day Boxes and cards were great fun.
Another thought that comes to mind is the memory of very elderly people we knew that have been long gone and how different our lives have been in contrast. One of our great-aunt's that we visited in Arkansas lived in an old settler type house with no running water, still cooked on a cast iron wood fired stove and never had a telephone. They had an outside well and we would drink water from a bucket using a long handled porcelain dipper. We are now becoming those elderly people that have lived very different lives from kids today. Some of us still do not use a computer or have a cell phone. Todays kids cannot imagine that. Older people have a great opportunity to share their special memories and "hard life" stories with kids of today, to plant those kind of seeds in their minds giving them such special memories to harvest in their old age.
Come to think of it, this forum gives us the opportunity do the same with each other here and now! Isn't it fun? Congratulations to all of you that are computer literate enough to be able to log in to this forum.
