Very sad to hear the news about Marshall Fannin. We were Lincoln School alumni, many years ago.

Congratulations to my fellow soldiers from the class of '64. We were drafted 50 years ago yesterday, March 15, 1966. Remember good old Ft. Polk.

I am a Seenager. (Senior teenager)

I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 65 years later. I don't have to go to school or work.

I get an allowance every month. I have my own pad.

I don't have a curfew. I have a driver's license and my own car.

I have an ID that gets me into bars and the wine store. I like the wine store best.

The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant; in fact, they aren't scared of anything, they have lived this long already, so why be scared?

And I don't have acne.

Life is Good! You also, will feel much more intelligent after reading this, if you are a Seenager.

Brains of older people are slower because they know so much.

People do not decline mentally with age, it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains; scientists believe this also makes you hard of hearing as it puts pressure on your inner ear.

Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full, so too, do humans take longer to access information when their brains are full.

Researchers say this slowing down process is not the same as cognitive decline. The human brain works slower in old age, said Dr. Michael Ramscar, but only because we have stored more information over time. The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simply know more, have more information stored in the brain.

Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for. It is NOT a memory problem; it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise.

SO THERE!!

I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names.

Had my last radiation therapy (36) yesterday!!!!  So glad to have this over with.  I know I'm one of the lucky ones, because some of the ladies I  met at therapy had to have chemotherapy and radiation.

Now I'm ready to celebrate.  We leave March 30th for Laughlin, Nevada.  We are meeting my nephew Tom and his wife Ginny there.  A bunch of old Farts ready to gamble.

Happy St. Paddy's day you all.  πŸ’πŸ˜„πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Congratulations Suzi on finishing your therapy.  This is a celebration for the entire class because we are all special to each other and we get to keep you for many years to come.  Having lost Marshall this week demonstrates our vulnerability and how truely special and important it is for us to enjoy and appreciate each other every day.  This website is such a great way for us to stay in touch as a class and to share our our lifes experiences with each other.  We all celebrate your strength, courage and determination in fighting your way throught this challenging battle.

LeROY — Marshall Lee Fannin, 69, of LeRoy, passed away at 9:42 a.m. Monday (March 14, 2016) at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Marshall was born June 1, 1946, in Levelland, Texas, a son of Vernal and Lois Darland Fannin. His mother survives. He married Rayona Wills on July 27, 1963, in Juarez, Mexico. She preceded him in death.

Marshall worked at Firestone for 11 years before owning and operating Fannin's Texaco and Towanda Plaza Mobil service stations in Bloomington for more than 15 years. In his free time, Marshall was an avid treasure hunter. His most memorable times were spent with his family and with his friends at Doris'. Most of all he loved restoring his ’65 Mercury Comet.
Marshall was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

I just had a fun idea after seeing the previous posts by Mike and Suzi regarding the classmates that were in the military.  It would be interesting to see everyone that served to post a picture of themselves in uniform along with a couple of sentences about their military experience.  After 50 years, it would be a nice way for all of us to  learn what our classmates experienced.  Since Mike triggered this idea, I would invite him to go first.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers as I faced this challenge.  You all have been wonderful.  Now I'm ready to get on with my life.

Mel, I think your idea is great.  It will be interesting to see how many put pictures out there.

Suzi,

I also want to send my well wishes and let you know that your trip to Vegas is a well earned and deserving reward. I like everyone else have been pulling for you and have never lost faith that you would deal with and be victorious in this battle. Just have to say - and this happens frequently - that it was Marv, not I who invited the vets to post their stories. People often mix our names up, but we are inseparable and know what you meant. We are on the same page here and happy for you beyond measure. Mel, the other twin. smileyheartyes

Maybe if I go first it will break the ice for others.  Hopefully others will add their pics and comments.

This picture was taken on the day I (center) returned home from Vietnam having been there from July 1967 to July 1968.  I was a Construction Draftsman in the Army.  My primary responsibility in Vietnam was to create charts and maps from intelligence information and to set up for regular briefings by a team of officers to plan Military Police operations.  This served as a critical function during the initial days of the 1968 Tet Offensive.

Mel, I can tell you and Marv apart, I must have had a brain fart.  (Hope I didn't offend anyone).  LOL

Marv, thank you for starting the photos and for your service.

Marvin, I looked very closely at the picture that you posted and I noticed that you were wearing state-side fatigues, while the others were dressed in traditional RVN style uniforms. Just a silly observation. We were SO young back then!

I like the idea of posting memory photos. I tried to find something that I would like to share, but over the years the few that I had kept, have long since vanished. Photography was "stone age" 50 years ago.  I'll keep looking and asking loved ones if they have kept any pictures that I may have sent, years ago. I hope others respond to your suggestion.

Mike - I look forward to other veterans posting as well.  Old picture postings do not have to be limited to military history.  I could post some beauts of Mel from the late 60"s, but, would not without his permission.  Old hippie pics would be fun too.  As I mentioned this pic was taken the day I returned to the states, so, the "state-side" fatigues were a result of having to turn in the "jungle fatigues" before going home.

The request for veterans to post their photos and stories inspired me to go back to "In Memory" to recognize those we have lost who cannot do this. According to the flags attached to the names of our classmates on Raiders 64, we have lost 23 of our veterans (I've added Bill Rusk and Bob Singletary who were not listed) which leaves 42 others who can speak for themselves. Regretably, Bill Buff didn't come back, but thankfully all the others did. Surprisingly, Mary Richard (Carson) is the only woman from the Class of 64 who served in the military. I found at least 3 who served but are not listed as vets bringing the total number to 65.

Mel, thank you for posting the list of everyone that served in the service that's no longer with us.  Maybe you could put the list on the home page or In Memory page.
