Allida Frisch (Altemus)

I also knew Cathy from kindergarten on. She was a great person. My sister was friends with her sister Elizabeth and we were just talking about both of them over the weekend and I was wondering what Cathy was doing and if she was still in Texas. Another person gone way too soon!

Allida and Janet:

So sorry to hear about Cathy!  May she rest in Heavenly Peace!

I don't know what percentage of our class is deceased.  But, I think we're luckier than many other classes around the U.S.  By our ages, many have 50% or more gone!

Has anyone looked into our class percentage?

Love to all!

Linda

If there were 352 people originally in our class and 65 are deceased then the percentage is 18.47% no longer with us.  I'm not sure of the correct number of students in our class.  Maybe someone can verify that number.

Class of 1963 had 266 graduates. We have had 54 deaths. That's 20.3%. Tough what a year can do.

Milan...

I arrived at my "number of class members" by adding up the column of "Where We Live,"  (actually made a mistake yesterday and got 287) on the Home Page.  Today I got 288 + 65 deceased which is 353.  If we did indeed only have 333 class members then the percentage changes to 19.5% instead of 18.4%.  Not sure why there is such a difference between the Pantagraph article and the "Where We Live" column.  Unless maybe only 333 graduated but there were actually 353 members in our class.  Could that be possible?  I would still consider those that did not graduate, members of the class.  Your thoughts.

Max

You had 333 Graduates. Doesn't count those who didn't graduate that year nor those who tranferred out. Your count is actually a better tally.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Max, maybe I can help a little. I always thought there were 319 who actually graduated and the Pantagraph probably included those who didn't make it. But whatever, this website includes everyone who was associated with our class, whether they graduated with us or not. There were some who moved away, some who dropped out and some who are invited guests. That's why your numbers are higher than Milan's. I think it is great that those who set this site up felt it necessary to welcome all those people into the Class of '64 family.

Also, thanks to you and all the other for the birthday wishes last week.

And finally, like Julie, Janet and Allida, Marv and I were also in school with Cathy Quiett from K-12. She was always very smart and very nice. It is hard to believe that she is gone from us. We've also lost Betsy Ahlenius, Bob Bower and Chuck Massie from that group of Oakland School kindergartners. It's hard to look back and realize what all us of have done since those years. So glad you guys are helping us keep track of each other, even when it hurts.

Had a great time at Gill Street last night.  The Band that was there was great.  Nice seeing everyone again.  For the classmates that live in town you are missing out on wonderful friendships.

A couple of years ago, Jack Habich, Mike Eddings, and I pumped some life into this site. Since then it's the members of the Class of 1964 who have made it the site it is today. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Thanks even more for accepting me into your group.

Here's a plug that some of the locals might be interested in.

Saw a hilarious play a week or so ago at the Shakespeare festival, "Q Gents."  Ran into the Holt's there, incidentally.

It's a version of  "two gentlemen from verona" staged in a contemporary high school setting where the two main characters are football stars who get distracted by love interests.  Runs a fast 75 minutes and it has been held over for a few extra showings at ISU's Center for the Performing Arts.  Really funny.

Performances:  7:30 and 10 p.m. shows this Friday and Saturday, and Aug. 21 and 22, and a 7:30 p.m.-only show on Aug. 20.

Joan Pease (Clark)

I've been nostalgic and housebound (excessive heat warnings here in the desert) and found this in an old album. I thought I posted it when I updated my profile the other day, but apparently not.

This is our Franklin School 6th grade class on a field trip to Springfield. That's me proudly holding my sack lunch in the front row; Ann Bailen in the center (love her saddle shoes!) with Fred Livings to her right. I think that's Virginia Spry behind the boy to my right and Vicki Rizzuto to her left.

Anyone recognize others?

Regina (Sue) Petersen (Koppenhoefer)

Joan,  I always wondered whatever happened to Fred Livings - he went to Bent School for awhile.  Here is a picture of the 6th grade class from Bent School that same year.  Steve Chesney hosted an end of school year party at his home.  First Row:  Mary Jones, Donitta Watson, Vicki Weatherly, Regina (Sue) Petersen, Marion Black, Carol McCauley, Judy Tynan.  Second Row:  Helen Nicolaysen, Leola Guler, Miss Bottomley, Sandra Huff, Dennis Saunders, David Goodpaster.  Third Row:  Sammy Green, Gregory Langhoff, Donald Brown, Terry Hankins,  David Coit.  Top Row:  Steve Chesney. (Judy and I have joked that it looks like we are texting each other.)

Does anyone have any contact information for Pam Hohnstreiter Zweng.  If so, thank you.  If you can, give her my email, cc.crabtree@live.com and text 309-825-2793.

Joan,

Steve Wilson sent me this pic in 2009. Said he took it and thatโ€™s why heโ€™s not in it.
He also sent me a list with many of the names, but I canโ€™t readily find that. Off the top of my head:

Barbara Moretz on the left, with the glasses.

Vicki Keller peeking over the top, on the left.

Next to Ann Bailen is Mike Kaluf, with camera.

Might be Jane Wettaw between Ann and Mike.

Think Bob Branom is peeking through toward the far right.

I didnโ€™t know the name of the person with the camera next to you, but I believe Steve said he and his family died in a car accident not long after this picture.

Also, I have this photo listed as โ€œ5th grade Springfield tripโ€, and Steveโ€™s photo has a May, 1957 date, so that would have been 5th grade. I think I posted this on the MB, with more names, about 4 years ago, but would have to dig it out.

Jack - Sue - Milan,

Thanks for additional identifcation/information/correction on that old picture. I look much more mature than a mere 5th grader. :-)

The boy next to me was Denny Van Steenberg. His dad was a dentist, and his entire family was killed in a car accident; according to an old Pantagraph, it was the worst accident in the state's history. I think our whole class went to the funeral. http://www.newspapers.com/clip/1121079/vansteenberg_5271957_p3c3/
