Milan,

My husband's class of 1963 at Morton High School is interested in setting up a website after hearing me talk about ours and my showing them what we have available on this site. They mentioned this at their 50th reunion in September and the class was excited about the thought of having a website.  Could you give me an email address so I can have Bruce Donecker or Rod Collins from Morton Class of '63 contact you for some information about setting up a website for their class.  Mike Edding said you would be the person for them to talk to.  Bruce lives in California and Rod is in Minnesota so I'm thinking contact by email would be the easiest but I didn't find your email address anywhere so thought I had better see if you would give it to me. I greatly appreciate any help you can give them.  Judy

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Have been off the site for a short time.  So much seems to have happened.  I was really sorry to hear of the passing of Madelon and Sandra's Husbands.

Very nice article on John Brown's father.  I'm John is very proud of him as he should be.  Obviously, he was a wonderful man.  Good job Ann.

Julie, being married to Bob, I can't believe you didn't know more people in the "63" class.  I haven't looked at all the pictures, but just seeing them briefly, right off I recognized Bob Berry, Mike Howard, Eddie Brown, Carl Sneed, Terry Mack and of course Milan.  I saw a lot of familier faces, but couldn't put a name with them.  I wonder what the "65" class will think of us when they see us.

Milan - (Pictures) -  Who is the guy in several pics with the long white hair?

Judy Wilder - Have you seen my cuz Brad lately and if so, how is the family doing.  Tell him I said Hello.  By the way, since you live in Morton, do you know any of the Baum family.

Linda - First, we never threw eggs, Ha!  However, we did throw corn at windows, we spun the notched thimble on windows, soaped windows and screens, rang doorbells, and the master of all, pinned horns.  I see you made B-Day Wish about old goats.  This place i worked at, had several people who always called me the ole goat.  When someone asked me why they called me the ole goat, I said, because I am the GOAT.  The Greatest OAll Time.  GOAT!  Now, about the AAA Baseball team.  I'm certainly not the know all, end all of inside baseball.  I have been associated with a few people who know way, way more than most about the minor leagues.  The Class A, AA, and AAA leagues are the lifeline to a Championship team.  It's the most important element for Major League Teams.  The weather plays almost no part in where a team is located.  I mean, there are Major teams in Texas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia (humidity), out East where it's cold.  The real factors of where a Minor League team locates are very complex.   Who is going to be their Major Affiliate, does ownership have the financial backing, what abatements will the selected city give up, will MLB support the move, what infra-structure will be required.  These and many other factors are all done sort of behind the scenes first.  Then it becomes a massive effort to Market the team.

Jack, I see the Whinner King may be back for the Bears.  They got a break against GB.  If they get past Detroit, it could actually be play-off time.  I hope so.  Not much interest on the site for the Breeder's Cup, but what a horse race.  Best of the year.  I really thought Wise Dan was the best horse, but with the Jockey change that day, it put a damper on him.  However, I was so very happy for Gary Stevens.  What a story.  He is just one of the really good guys.

Ed, I have watched Baylor several times this year.  Not that anybody is going to beat the Tide, but I would love to see Baylor, yes, the Baylor Bear play Alabama for the title this year.  I think it would be a really great game.  I know FSU and Ohio State have great teams, but if Baylor beats OSU and Texas as bad as they have everyone else, I think they shoud get a shot.

By the way ya'll in B/N.  I'm still mowing my lawn and playing golf.

you know, I've never found anyone else that knew what pinning horns is. surely it's not only done in bloomington?

Rod,

Cutler and the coaching staff lost the game.  Cutler should not have been in the game and his big fat ego kept him in.  The coaches needed to yank him out.  The running play on the two pointer was dumb, dumb, dumb!!!!!

Mcgowan probably would have won the game.

Rod:

As for the darn baseball team.............wait for it..............they have been named the Chihuahuas!   Most of the town dislikes the name.  (after some ratty looking little dog)   Go figure.    They are trying to market the heck out of it.  Good luck with that.....huh?

Linda,

The Houston Astros were not always the Astros.

When Houston got a major league team in 1959 or 60 (previously they were the Houston Buffaloes), the team was named the Colt .45's complete with a cartoon pair of SAA pistols.. The city hated that name and brought pressure to bear... then John Glenn went up and thus, the Houston Astros!

Michael (Mike) Franks

Having been there, (as you well know) maybe El Paso should have named their team the "The Jack Rabbits",  "The Roadrunners", "The Rattlesnakes" or (I l ike this one) "The Sunshine Dwellers". There is a lot of sage brush and sand, but somehow that doesn't chime. I can think of others, but these days we must be politically correct.

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Milan - Thanks for the name info.

Julie - I thought everybody knew how to pin horns.  We would go out in groups of 4 or 5  We would go out a few days before and find just the right sticks for different cars.  The tricky part was when a garage door was up and you could pin that horn and get out.  Of course we would always hide and watch.  By the way, the last time I saw your Ex, (Bob), was about 10 years or so ago.  I knew him right away.  Well, I just saw a picture of him and I'm pretty sure I would never know who he was by just seeing him on the street.

Suzi,  I am just so upset with the Bears.  True, a coach makes a mistake here and there, but Jay Boy makes them all day long.  I am slowly thinking that he is not the guy to take them to the playoffs.  Not just as a QB for the Bears, but in general, I never liked the guy, I don't like him, and never will.  He was a cancer at Denver and he's the same with the Bears.  Jay is all about Jay, and to Hell with the team and fans.  I'll be looking forward to the draft next year, I think.

Ed - What did you think about the statement by the Ohio State football player last week.  He says they would pound Bama and FS.  He needs to take a saliva test.

Linda - Chihuahuas.  That is just rediculous.  Is your City Counsel made up of mostly Mexicans.  Myself, I hate that breed of dog.  All they do is bark, nip, and shake. They got those marble eyes that look bigger than their body.   There will be sooooo many jokes about the team, and if they start losing a lot, it will never end.  Mike had some great names.  Maybe you can get a petition up to change it.  The uniforms ought to be really nice.  Ha! Ha!

Linda Bristow (Elias)

Mike:  I agree with you!   I suggested many other names that would be more conducive to having a more prideful name than Chihuahuas!

The owners had the names researched and came up with that.   I would want my money BACK!

We could have been the Amigos, Suns, River Rats (for the Rio Grande), the Reys (for Mt. Cristo Rey), the Gators ( for the alligators from San Jacinto Plaza), the Trail Blazers (from Onate's Camino Real Trail), the Lizards, the Horned Toads, the Rattlers, the Pumas, the Bandidos (for all of the robberies), the Dinosaur's (for all of the dinosaur tracks by Anapra), the Sun Soldier's (from Ft. Bliss), the Franklin Star's (for the star on Mt. Franklin at Christmas), the Padre's (for the Lost Padre Mine)...........................

Glad you, Ed, and Rod agree with me!

Linda

Rod,

Yes, I see Brad almost every Sunday at church.  I think he is slowly cutting down his work load but not quite ready to retire.  I think everyone is doing fine.  I will pass on your "hi" to him and the family.

We don't live in Morton we live in Washington but my husband graduated from Morton High School and Ken Baum (the youngest of the boys, I think) was in his class of '63 at Morton High School.  My husband knows all of the boys but I only know Ken and his sisters.   We just spent quite a bit of time with Ken and his wife planning their 50th reunion and celebrating it in September in connection with the Morton Pumpkin Festival.  Ken & my husband were both on the planning committee and we met several times over the last year and it was great fun!!  Ken lives in Peoria now in a condo and is retired but I think he still is very involved with the Otto Baum business in Morton.

Q:  Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise  can  prolong life.  Is this true?
A: Heart  only good for so many beats, and that it...  Don't waste  on exercise.  Everything wear out  eventually.   Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it  like  saying you extend life of car by driving faster.    Want to live longer?  Take nap.

Q: Should  I reduce my  alcohol  intake?
A:  Oh   no.  Wine made from fruit.  Fruit very good. Brandy  distilled  wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit so  you  get even more of goodness that way.  Beer also made   of grain.  Grain good too. Bottom up!

Q: How can I   calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if  you have body and  you have fat, your ratio one to  one.  If you have two body,  your ratio two to  one.

Q: What are some of the advantages  of  participating in a regular exercise  program?
A:  Can't think of one,  sorry.  My philosophy: No   pain...good!

Q:   Aren't  fried foods bad for  you?
A:  YOU  NOT  LISTENING!  Food fried in vegetable oil.  How   getting more vegetable be  bad?

Q  :   Will  sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft   around the middle?

A:  Oh no!   When you exercise muscle, it get  bigger.  You  should only be doing sit-up if you want  bigger  stomach.

Q:  Is chocolate bad  for  me?
A:  You crazy?!?   HEL-LO-O!!  Cocoa  bean!  Another  vegetable!  It best feel-good food   around!

Q:  Is swimming good for your  figure?
A:  If swimming good for  figure, explain whale to  me.

Q:  Is  getting in shape important for my   lifestyle?
A:  Hey!   'Round' is  shape!

Well... I hope this has cleared  up any misconceptions  you may have had about food and  diets.

And   remember:
Life  should NOT be a journey to the grave  with the intention  of arriving safely in an attractive and  well-preserved  body, but rather to skid in sideways - chardonay in  one  hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up,   totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a   ride!!"

AND.....

For those of you who  watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health.   It's a relief to  know the truth after all those conflicting  nutritional  studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and  suffer fewer heart attacks than Canadians

3. The Chinese drink very little  red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans

4. The Italians  drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than New Zealanders.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Aussies.

CONCLUSION:   Eat  and drink what you  like.   Speaking  English is apparently what kills you.

As many of you know a major tornado hit Washington, IL this afternoon. Ken and Patty Lehr and Judy and Whitey Wilder all live there. If anyone gets any news from them, please let us know that they are OK. Watching all the reports, there is no doubt they were in the path of the storm. I'm just hoping they are all doing well. There was obviously exensive loss of homes and numerous injuries.

Hi everyone.  Returned from Phoenix this weekend to find out about the devastation from tornadoes in Illinois.  Does anyone know how to contact family of Judy and Whitey as well as Patty and Kenny?

If they need help, please let me know.  We could kick in some money to help them out.

Praying hard and long for them to be safe!  God Bless us everyone!

Linda

Annie spoke to Judy Mclean's sister-in law and found out that the McLeans and the Lehrs are all fine and their homes were not hit  in  the tornado. Hit just 1 block from Patty and Kenny's, but they are all fine.

Thanks Mike. That is great news. I tried to call Ken yesterday and left a message. Knowing Ken and Pat, I'm guessing they are out doing whatever they can to help others. So glad they are all OK.

Judith (Judy) McLean (Wilder)

Thanks to all for thinking about Lehrs and Wilders.  We are very lucky...it hit just a block from Patty & Kenny and about two blocks from our house on the other end of town.  It made a SW to NE path right thru the middle of our wonderful town.  Many, many people homeless and displaced.

Rod - just to let you know Brad and Rita are okay too.  It was within a block or so from them also! Stuff in their

When you see the aftermath it is hard to believe that there was only 1 death in Washington.  God Is Good!!!!!!!!  We have many friends who are homeless or displaced for a period of time and just hard to believe!  You probably knew more about what was going on than we did at the time as we had no power for 26 hours and phones and cell phones were not working so communication was a nightmare. Most of town has power now but still under boil order for water and a 6:00 p.m. curfew.  Today they started letting people get into the homes to see what they could salvage.  Please continue praying for this community it will take a lot to get us up and going again.
