Carol McCauley is experiencing major health issues, which I'm not sure she wants to be published, therefore we'll honor and respect their privacy, however she is beginning to push forward with the healing process. Also, their family is experiencing major serious health issues! They're requesting continued prayers for them and their family! Prayers do get answered!

Suzi:  So......stitches are out...........and ..........everything is going.......how?

Love to all, Linda

By now all of you should have received the 2013 Mini-Reunion invitations and the announcement of the 50th Reunion scheduled for Aug 16, 2014 at Bloomington Country Club.  The Planning Committee has put a lot of effort into evaluating   the options for a special event for the 50th.  It will include reception snacks, a nice buffet dinner, DJ music and dance from start to finish.  We are counting on all of you to make every effort to be there so we can all celebrate, reminisce and share the experiences of the 50 years that have passed since we crossed that graduation stage at BHS.

The following people have actively participated in the Planning Committee.  They have all volunteered in the hope of making this an event to remember.  They deserve your thanks and appreciation (not to suggest that it has been all hard work because we have not had a lot of fun in the process).

Linda Bristow-Elias                       Rich Crusius                       Suzi Denton-Merritt         Emmalyn Dickinson                  Mary Eisenburg-Mullins                      Ed Evans                         Sharon Green-Leipold             Madelon Henderson-Newsom      Pam Hohnstreiter-Zweng             Dave Holt                                   Clayton James                         Steve Jetton                   Jack Keefe                             Judy McLean-Wilder                         Mike Mink                         Jim Pierce                               Marvin Theobald                    Carol Trenary-Logsdon             Judy Winquist-Neal

On a sad note - As a result of the Mini-Reunion mailing, the wife of Mike Daniels called me to let me know he passed away 2/8/2011.  She said he had tried about 5 years ago to find out where we were having our 45th reunion but could not get any information.  He called BHS and they were of no help.  She received our mailing last year and thought how sad it was that we finally found him and he had died without making it to one of our events (Milan Jackson found him last year in his diligent efforts to locate our missing classmates).

Milam - Is it possible that you could locate an obituary from a local Collinsville, IL paper to post for us?  I did not really want to bother Mike's wife with that request, but, I can if you prefer.  Thanks.

I have a note in the works for Belleville News-Democrat who carried Mike's obituary. I am hoping they will help us.

This is only a suggestion, however maybe the Class of 64 Planning Committee might consider including BHS Business Office with copies of all future dates for Mini Runions and Class Reunions for those whom might call the High School Office seeking contact information! Just a thought......but could help people such as Mike Daniels in the future! Some of us are beginning to see signs of CRS, don't ya' know! indecision

Good Idea, helen..

I am on the homewaqrd leg of my trip.. stayin in Texarkana tonite..

What a trip this has been... I got to Alabama to learn that my uncle's 87th birthday was tehe next day... great party.. saw all my cousins, on to Birmingham to spend the night with my best man, also one of Malinda's pall bearers. Then on to Tyler for the most incredible reunion I can ever imagine anyone ever having... After that to see the widow of our pastor from the '70's in the Hill Country of Texas, and now sadly, I am on my way home... but the mantra is now "NEXT YEAR IN HOUSTON!"

ed - you were only 40 minutes from me when you were in tyler.  glad you had a fun trip.

dislocated my shoulder in yoga in nov., then a week later dislocated it again IN MY SLEEP!  takes real talent to do that!  ended up with a large rotator cuff tear (or maybe it was torn and that's why it dislocated so easily)  wasn't getting full use of my arm back so had surgery feb. 14th.  have had zero pain and started PT last week.  keep your fingers crossed i get back to yoga.

am i the only one who doesn't want dancing at the reunion?  can't remember if people actually dance or not.  but i do know it's hard to hear over it.

I am home! It was a magnificient trip, both emotionally and physocilogically. I need to develop some memories that do not include Malinda, and this was one. I spent the eening with my uncle on his 87th birthday, then joined freinds from my Houston days... first time we had all been together since 1963 and it was wonderful... went to Lago Vista to visit a family friend, then 3 days to get home... I did return to my Texas roots via a pair of very nice boots and a black hat.. had one in HS... everyone thought I grew up on a ranch and knew John Wayne..I thought y'all all knew Al Capone...

Linda, tell me what you know about Alamogordo, NM.

Is it a safe place to live?

Would live there?

Crime?

Retirement?

Cost of living?

Thanks              Mike

03/27/13 11:51 PM #3735

Linda Bristow (Elias)

Mike:

Alamogordo, NM is an hour and a half from El Paso. (about 92 miles)  It is home to Holloman Air Force Base.  It is a very quiet place that has a problem with middle school and high school students getting into trouble.  They have had 15 years of kids meeting at homes after schools before parents get home from work.  They keep passing around STDs.  Then these SAME kids work in fast food places in town on the Main St. strip!   Yuk!

The main strip is US54.  They have added a beltline route to keep traffic off of Main Street when people head to the mountains for the weekends to Cloudcroft or Ruidoso.   It is still just a little dusty place that patronizes people who pass through and Holloman.  Also, there is a large school for the blind.

If I died............I wouldn't even want to be buried there, much less live there.  Is this for you or someone you know?

I might know of alternatives that you haven't thought of.  Feel free to contact me at eliasli@sbcglobal.net.

Linda

Michael (Mike) Franks

Linda, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I've been thinking of spending time in NM, but the places that I have checked out all seem to have the same problems with poverty, crime, and ethnic speration. Maybe it's not what I'm looking for. It appears to be a place where people don't have a lot to do, and where trouble brews.

Thanks    Mike
