Subject: You Might Be a Redneck

We have enjoyed the redneck jokes for years. It's time to take a

reflective  look at the core beliefs of a culture that values home, family, country,

  and  God.

If I had to stand before a dozen terrorists who threaten my life, I'd

choose a half dozen or so rednecks to back me up.  Tire irons, squirrel

guns, and grit -- that's what rednecks are made of.  I hope I am one of

those. If you feel the same, pass this on to your redneck friends. Ya`ll

   know who ya are...

You might be a redneck if. . .

It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, "One nation,

   under  God. . "

You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public

   places.

You still say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival."

You bow your head when someone prays.

You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play the

   National Anthem.

You treat Viet Nam vets with great respect, and always have.

You've never burned an American flag.

You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who

  Is listening.

You respect your elders and expect your kids to do the same.

You'd give your last dollar to a friend.

God bless Larry and the Elliott family. So sorry.

EVANSVILLE, Indiana — Authorities in Evansville say a man and a woman were killed when the scooter they were riding went out of control on a snowy street and they were hit by a pickup truck.

Police Sgt. Jason Cullum says the truck was traveling behind the scooter when it went down in the snow Wednesday on a main street of the city's southeast side. He tells the Evansville Courier & Press and WFIE-TV that the truck driver couldn't stop in time to avoid hitting the two riders.

Authorities say 26-year-old Heather Johnson and 42-year-old Joel Elliott were taken to a hospital with serious injuries but later died. The two lived at an address just a couple blocks from the crash scene.

No one in the truck was injured.

Wishing all y'all a happy and prosperous New Year

Note: for those who are with grammar, y'all can be conjugated thus:

y'all - singular

All y'all - plural

Y'all's - singular possessive

All Y'all's - plural possessive

See how easy it is to speak southern

:)

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

I was so sorry to hear about Larry Elliotts son.  My thoughts are with you Larry.

I have read all the comments on this site, along with hundreds of Editorials and such on the tradgedy that took place in Newtown.  Like most people, to me it is so sickening that I dislike even talking about it.  That being said, it seems like every solution has pro's and con's.  After growing up during OUR time, it seems that todays society fails everywhere you look.  So sad.  i know this may not be the popular side, but I must say that I agree100% with the views of Ed.

Mel, I completely understand your view and feelings about Nuclear Disarming.  But, having spent over 20 years in the Nuclear Power business, I have to disagree 100% on that position.  You can't fathom the time and resourses that it would take to achieve this act.  Then there is always the TRUST factor.  I mean think about it.  The entire Middle East, North Korea, Africa, just to name a few.  Nuclear Disarmament is just never going to happen, not our lifetime.

I'm not sure about George Steele being a Legend, but I know The Ditka is for sure.  Ask me about the Pro  Wrestling world sometimel  I have some pretty good stories, that are actually true.

Oh, and Vic.  Based on your redneck verse, I am a Redneck for sure.  By the way Vic, how are you getting along now?

Gotta go, I'll have more later.  Ya'll just can't wait I bet.

Rod

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAA,  THE BEARS GOT RID OF LOVIE!!!!!!

12/31/12 05:32 PM #3527

Linda Bristow (Elias)

I pray that everyone has a safe, happy, and healthy New Year.  I pray it will be the best in 10 years and that the Stock Market will keep climbing, our elected officials learn that if they don't do their damn job that we can, and will, vote their butts out of office, that TV begins having some healthy family shows that everyone can watch, and see if it makes a difference in the forming minds of our country's children (as well as our mentally challenged).

America needs to clean up it's act!  Our education needs to be improved drastically.   Our immigration status must be enforced!   When we go to a different country, we have to follow their laws!   Why are we any different?

I understand that when we were teenagers that our parents thought their world was falling apart.  I can't imagine what it will be like in one more generation!  I feel sorry for the kids who don't get the wonderful experiences of living and learning responsibility that we had!

If they truly find another habitable planet, I'm volunteering to go!

Love to all and Happy New Year!

I was recently wandering around a posh hotel in Chicago’s financial district, looking for job creators, or at least some assistance, when I saw Mary Giermann, son Mark the musician, and friend Suvannah the singer.  No job, but I got pancakes and sausage fit for a hedge fund mogul, as well as good conversation and advice to make me more prosperous so I could someday get a room there as well.  First thing I need to do is buy an orange T-shirt.

Congrats to Stanford.

Wisconsin played an "almost" game, quite an achievement for being the first 5 loss team to be in the Rose Bowl.   They belonged.  They were mediocre first part of the season, but looked like world beaters at their last regular season game.  It's not how you start, it's how you finish.  Ask Lovie.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU!!!

Want to add one more to Ed's southern linguistic conjugation: Marv's Texas granddaughter once addressed us as "Both y'all's". When I asked her if that was grammatically correct, she replied, "I meant 'Y'all two.'" So Ed, which is correct?

Rod, Ed and all others on the gun discussion here, thank you for sharing your opinions. I do respect your positions and don't mean to be political about it. This is obviously an emotionally charged topic and I really believe those of us in large cities have a different perspective than those who are in more rural settings. We all speak from the heart.

Larry, I want to add my condolences for the loss of Joel. There is nothing I can imagine which could be more difficult. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Linda,  please don't go to another planet, we need you here. Really!!!

An update on Judy Walker…her physical recovery has been very good, she's playing the flute and doing ping-pong tournaments again. But, several issues linger which may be the result of her concussion, such as sleeping 14 hours a day and having no sense of taste.

Anyone traveling near Westville, IN might want to stop and see my exhibition at Purdue University. It begins Jan. 7 running thru May 17 with 25 large scale photographs. Let me know if you want more details.

Love and good wishes for 2013.
Mel

Y'all two...

Mel, I do suspect that the urban/rural views does color our views regarding firearms... As I write this, there is legislation being debated in the IL Senate that, if passed, would confiscate every weapon in Illinois... so much for "reasonable gun control... should that pass, I doubt seriously that I will continue to be a resident of this state...

WELL........much to my surprise, I am indignantly waiting for snow to fall in El Paso tomorrow.   We're expecting up to 5 inches.  Supposely it will melt by Saturday.

I may not even go out to get my newspaper!   I don't even care for rain!  There is no room for inclimate weather in my life!   It needs to go somewhere else.............how about Illinois?

Linda

01/03/13 02:50 PM #3533

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Linda, as I set here watching the news, I see that your area is getting covered with SNOW.  So muchj for sunny West Texas.  But, like you said, it will be gone by Sat.  I wish no harm to anyone, but I do get a laugh watching the cars try to navigate in that weather.  Most have no idea.

Ed, you are always welcome to come back to TEXAS, Gateway to the West.  I want to leave the debate alone, but you probably know how gun control laws go over here.

Jack - C'mon man.  I know Wisconsin played much better at the end of the season, but without sanctions, they would have never been there.  Then to top it off, they almost beat Stanford.  Stanford should be very happy they didn't have Ohio State rolling into town.  Or several other schools for that matter.  I read a quote by some brain dead person who said, " Stanford winning the Rose Bowl now shows that they belong right up there with the Big Boys".  Give me a break.  Great shool, one of the top academic schools in the nation, but a football power.  They have a ways to go.

Rod:

In my little old El Paso County I learned last year that we have about 700 wrecks a week!   I had no idea!

With everyone on our roads, licensed, unlicensed, no insurance, etc.  it is a blooming nightmare in inclimate weather.   They don't deal with rain well, much less snow with black ice on the bridges.   Sirens are heard all over town.   We are built around a mountain with the longest point about 37 miles long.  All over the county we have stupid damn people who can't drive!

I wonder how many estimators the insurance companies keep here!

Love to all,

Linda

Michael (Mike) Franks

Linda, as you know I spent some time in good ole El Paso. Do you ever get to a place known as Hueco Tanks? Looking on Google Maps, that whole area has really changed. I'm sure that there are stil a lot of jack rabbits and road runners in the desert, hidding in the sage brush. Apparently the population has exploded in that area. Too bad. It used to be a nice quite place to drink Pearl and Jax.

01/04/13 01:52 PM #3536

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Linda - I feel your pain.  I'm far east of you, but it's still the same show.  But, it's not the estimators that have it tough.  They can just go from vehicle to vehicle.   It's the body shops.  They can't keep up and some repairs take a long time to get done. It's crazy when the the weather people say 1 to 2 with winds at 20 mph.  Suddenly the schools start to list closings, Ha!

Mike, I don't think a lot of people, (not from Tx.), know what Pearl and Jax are.

How bout those DUCKS.  I thought it would be even worse.  I saw K-State play several games.  At the start of the year Klein was a Heisman candidate.  Last night he looked just like he always does to me.  Not that good.  There's alot more QB's ot there better than him.  I may be wrong after the game, but I've always thought Oregon was a better fit against anybody for the BCS Championship.  GO BAMA!!!  Right ED.

Jerry - I gotta back the Bengals, due to their QB.  Once they are out, (which will most likely be soon), I'll be full throttle behind your 49'ers.  Maybe we'll see a Bengal - San Fran Super Bowl????

Rod

Is Pearl and Jax still available? in the '60's, Jax commercials were the funniest, wittiest, best commercials on TV.. When one would come on, the entire family would gather around the TeeVee to watch

Of course it is "quiet",  not  "quite"!  I have really gotten lazy with my spelling. "Spell check"  will do that to a person. That's one letter grade in English 101.
