Is this Mike Franks? :)

Michael (Mike) Franks

Looks like Ft. Polk...1966.

There were a lot of area guys that the McLean County Draft Board sent. Pretty cool though. I won an all expense paid trip to Viet Nam.

Mike, only one of the dates I found through Wareco was blind.  Another was deaf and dumb.  Mostly though, they were just plain dumb.

Max,

That would have been great with you and Jetton.  That way we could have all stood, instead of sitting down.  Max, you were way ahead of style with the double roll cuff.  As you may recall, as we got older, everybody went to that double roll, and then eventually the single roll.  You might say, you were a trend setter.  Since you had the Desert Boots, did you also have a pair of flap jacks.  Those were the ones that had the tounge that fliped up and down to tighten and loosen them.

Michael (Mike) Franks

Rod, thanks for the chuckle!

Rod... I did have a pair of flap jacks... black ones.  I forgot the name of them until you brought it up.  I remember someone had a pair in blue suede, but not sure who it was. I have a pair of black and white saddle shoes that my wife bought for me when I was reminiscing about the old days one time.  Don't wear 'em much as it isn't worth the crap I get.

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Max,

Yes sir, mine were black also.  Had a pair of those black & white saddle shoes too.  Later on I had a pair of dark and light brown saddle's also.  I still have a pair of all white loafers with tassels.  They are Foot Joys that are actually used for teaching, or shoes to wear when walking on the golf course back in the day when regular golf spikes were heavier.  And , they still fit.

Rod, sure wish the rest of the body would listen to the feet and not grow like the example the feet display!

Well Helen,

Unfortunately, not all, but most of us from the class of '64' are now letting our mind make decisions our body can't handle.  If you don't think that is true, try playing with your Grand Kids or the neighbor kids for an hour, at full throttle.  You'll get the message.  Then there is elasticity, metabolism, dedication, etc., etc..   Although we may not think so, our lives become less physically active.  Our metabolism slows down, the body becomes less elastic.  The dedicatioin to do something physical on a daily basis becomes less important.  Even though the rate is different for everyone, it's still a slow creeping process.  I guess I could have just said, it takes a whole lot longer to get in shape than it used to, and no time at all to get out of shape.  Technology hasn't helped.  It has been both good and bad.  Look at our youth today as a group, compared to when we were kids.

I'll be giving my next seminar on staying healthy, after I lose 20 lbs.  So don't look for that to happen very soon Ha!

I need to admit that we're still getting our finger exercise on the keyboard of our computers and texting, although I do not text.  Kids these days aren't even required to take typing like we did?  The keyboards are all messed up and not even in good order according to those of us who have had and practiced the correct way to type. Maybe that's why our fingers still remain slim?  One can never forget the old saying, "Exercise, Exercise, Watch Me Do My Exercise"!  Now that's the way to stay slim!  wink  Ya think!?!?!?!

It's a damn shame that youth is wasted on young people. I don't feel any different than I did 30 years ago. Then I look in the mirror and reality sets in. The metalic years......silver in your hair, gold in your teeth, and lead in your ass.

Mike,

I have all three.... BUT....

In January, I begina medically supervised diet...see a doc every week for blood work  and eat only what is provided by the diabetic center that supervises this... nothing from a grocery store and <sigh> nothing from a resturant.

Expected weight loss is 20 pounds a MONTH!

After 3 months, most patients can get off insulin, oral diabetes meds, colesterol meds, and blood pressure meds... and after 2 years about 80% of the folks have kept the weight off...

5 "meals" a day!

So at the next reunion we'll see a skinny Ed drinking Pellegrino with a dash of pommegrate?

Linda Bristow (Elias)

Ed is going to be a hunky hunk and not a chunky hunk.   Good luck Ed.   I am dropping weight too!   For a fat girl I don't sweat much.............all fat people are jolly?............I have more bounce to my ouncel............I have more jiggle to my walk.............

I've heard them all.   They can kiss my grits!

Good luck Ed.  I have lost 43.   Going for double that!

The deal for me is I really really want off all these drugs... takin insulin injections is a big nothin...but I still don't like it

dependency just ain't my deal

And Jack, if they take my bourbon away, there's gonna be another war!

Ed, I think you better get your artillery ready.  Somehow, I don’t see how the beloved bourbon is going to fit into a severe, medically supervised diet.  For three months, consider yourself a prisoner of war.
