About Terri Whirrett - our friend Boo - :

This is the best summary I can provide based on a phone conversation with Dave yesterday. She remains hospitalized and will hopefully be able to go home by the end of the week. She has to pass a swallowing test before that can happen. She has a long road to recovery before she can swallow solid foods and will remain with the feeding tube installed for possibly as much as 15 weeks. She will be needing physical therapy to rebuild her strength after such a long period of physical inactivity. Not the news we have all wished for her but she is hopefully on her way to a full recovery and a return to a healthy and "GRAND" life.

Boo update - She emailed me earlier this afternoon with the following message:

I am going home tomorrow with gtube until next swallow test which does not have a date yet.

Please pray for total healing soon!

Discretion is often the better part of valor: with that said, I'm sorry that Dorothy and I will miss the Mini on Saturday. The current forecast is up to 8" of snow for Chicago, and while the Mini has all wheel drive, I don't. Just can't take the risk of a fall and injuring my one good (real) leg. Hope everyone has a marvelous time.

I think Mel will be getting ready anyway just in case. A lot of the ladies from our class will likely be abducted along with you since so many of them are so beutiful.

Mini-Reunion photos from last night were limited to three since the evening went so fast and time ran out before I got around to take snapshots. The attendance was very good with 23 attendees if you count John Brown who made a brief cameo appearance. Jack made an announcement that will hopefully spark a mini-reunion attendance record in August. A sub-committee of 4 from our Planning Committee is planning a FREE party August 21 to celebrate the class members turning 80 during the coming year. Details will emerge once the plan is ready for official notice. This will be followed by a mini-reunion August 22. Mark your calendars and plan to join in the celebration. Let's do our part and all show up.

Group photos missed John Brown and Garth Golden's wife Deb. Pam made me take a selfie so my photo would be included. So, I took the one below with her in it to make her happy. She sure looks happy doesn't she? But then she always looks happy.

Note: Bandaid on my forehead is not from anything Pam did or the result of a frontal lobotomy, but is to protect the healing of recent skin surgery. Hence, no chance of me being abducted by aliens looking for good looking old people.

I just got off the phone with Boo. Here is the latest! The good news is that she is home! The rest of the news is not what you would wish for. Her nourishment is 100% through a feeding tube and she has to "feed" the tube every 4 hours. She is not allowed to eat or drink anything through the mouth. In an attempt to make her laugh, I suggested just putting something delicious in her mouth to taste it and then spit it out. Hope! Not allowed.

The "food" she consumes has her blood chemistry out of whack and she has become very anemic. Consequently she is very tired and weak and has no energy. This is keeping her from getting the exercise she needs which is compounding her weakness. The feeding tube will continue to be her only source of food or drink until she passes a swallow test to verify there is no leakage in her esophagus. That is about two weeks away. She is hopeful that the next swallow test will give her the go ahead to consume real food in some form that will let her taste it.

As always, Boo is trying to keep a positive attitude and stay in good spirits but this a really frustrating and difficult thing to be dealing with. Her ability to talk is good but a little weak, tough I could not tell it on the phone. She feels she will be OK once this ordeal is behind her but it is going to be a long road to full recovery.

My Christmas tree has not received any decorations yet but the lights and garland are still nice without them. Santa is here making his annual visit before hitting the skies. The lake has started freezing over and the recent snow has made it beautiful. It won't last long because we are expecting temperatures in the mid 40's for several days.

Happy Holidays to all!

I wanted to say something about Patti's visitation. It was very nice and the minister really knew Patti. two of Patti's grandkids also spoke. She was really loved by her family and some of her friends including me. I still miss her and I'll think of something and I think all I need to call Patti and tell her except I can no longer do that she was a character and I've known her for many many many years. I know we all have to go sometime in, but it's still hard to see them go.
