How do you guys include a photo?  I tried and it is too complicated to me!  I dont know what url my photos come from, I just get them from my photos folder.

I have the same issue, Nancy.  Used to have no problem posting a photo but the last time or two I could not.

When we were in 8th grade, sometimes we went to Y-Tween dances at the Y.  We also went to the Green Mill Cafe to eat.  It was the first time for me to see and eat Melba Toast.

Does anyone else have memories of that?  Ernie Prillaman was the one who suggested the Cafe.  We thought we were really living it  up!

Nancy,

I'm on an Apple device but it probably works the same on Windows:

In the top bar when you start to post a message, there is an icon labeled 'Source'.  Next to that is an icon if a  picture of the sun over mountans.  Click on that picture.  It will take you Image Properties; you are then asked to choose file  depending upon where you store your photos (mine are in my photos file) (some, the joke stuff I post, are in my downloads file on the cloud)...choose the picture you wish to post and then click on Upload, and you should see the picture in your message.  To add a caption under your picture, press return and you should be on a new blank line.  If you continue to have difficulties, let me know and we'll get together on the phone and walk through it.

Wendy & Nancy .... here is a pic of the box at top to click on ... with the mountains and sun

Then after clicking on it THIS BOX shows up so click

on Choose File .... then the box shows up as an overlay that gives three options of where to find a photo .... then click on appropriate one and your photos show up ... select the one to load

Then the next screen pops up and to the right click

UPLOAD and your picture shoul appear !

NOTE:  If the picture you want to post is far back in your photo library .... snap a screenshot of it ... that will place a duplicate at the end of the photos which will be first to see when to go to post to the forum !

I hope this explanation is CLEARER than MUD !

Jim and Dave,

Your instructions are absolutely correct. However, like Wendy and Nancy, I tried to upload a photo earlier as an experiment and was frustrated that it did not show up. I'm no amateur at this and know how it is supposed to work. I just did another test and it worked. Why? I don't know. There must be something wrong with the website host that is beyond our reach.

This time it worked. Me with David Schwimmer and friends in 2004. Cool. Right?

This is the missionary that turned one hundred in Feb. 2025 that My family knew when we lived in Japan back when I was 8 years old. That was 70 years ago! I had not thought of her in years, when a former art student of mine posted her pic on Facebook. He ended up graduating from the same college I went to, and becoming a minister.  She was his mentor. Doesnt she look great! My former student gave me her phone number and I got to talk to her.  She remembers us! We were in her home 70 years ago in Japan. She and her husband were missionaries to Japan and South Korea.

I had trouble again trying to post a photo.  It kept saying the url was missing.  So I tried a different photo and it worked. Strange. Hope this works.

Thank you, Jim, Dave, and Mel for your help.  I did all that, and it just kept asking for the url.  I tried again this morning, and got the url error at first, but then I used a different photo and that time it worked.  Let me try the other photo again.  Ok,  it said the image source is missing, so it doesn't like that photo.  Now Ill try another photo.  It worked!  I even got two!  Woohoo!

These are before and after photos of an old garden cement stone that I hand painted recently.  I used professional acrylic paints like I use for regular pantings (not the cheap craft paints), then varnished with Liquitex varnish.  Now I can really test out these paints and varnish in the harsh outdoor elements. I did two more, if you want to see the other old goose and turtle garden statues.

A computer is just a machine--and machines malfunction on occasion.  I am no expert--on a good day I can find the ON switch.

The below sideways picture is what I was trying to post a few days ago to say "Spring is here!" Pireaus japonica blooming in my garden.

Nancy & Wendy !!!! So happy you both mastered it !!! Now let's see more of your artwork Nancy and more pictures of your garden &  travels Wendy !

Wendy, you must have TWO green thumbs to be able to get that plant to grow sideways!!! Amazing!!!!!!!

I love that plant picture... it sure doesn't look like that in Michigan yet !

Did you paint that eagle by hand Nancy ? Beautiful!!!  AND is that picture of the 100 yr old lady a current one ?  If so I think she looks younger than some of us!!!

Jim, Marv is back from Florida and will probably be flipping those images upright any minute.

Reading about the problems some of you have had posting photos, it seems that there is something embedded in them that the site rejects. As for sideways photos, it wants to convert "portrait" images into "landscape" formats if they were shot vertically. One way I've worked around those issues is to open the photo and resave it as a vertical jpeg. That seems to do the trick.

And Jim, as for the company I keep, over the years I have met and/or worked with many celebrities. Most of them in connection with my fundraising activities for the Art Institute Alumni Association. For 10 years I started and chaired an event called BareWalls. In 2004, David Schwimmer drove up to the building. Because I rarely watch TV, I didn't know who he was even though he looked familiar. He laughed and said, "Maybe you've seen me on TV." A few minutes later I invited him to join me for a preview of our event. To my amazement everyone stared in disbelief as I walked around introducing him to all the artists. Over the years, I've met Artur Rubenstein, Red Skelton, Vincent Price, Georgia O'Keeffe, Ivan Albright, and many others. It's been quite a ride.

Wendy, this is the result I got after resaving your photo. You have an amazing garden. Chicago finally has a few crocuses and daffodils popping up, but nothing as luscious as your plants.

MELL,  Look back at posting # 11556...  when I do as you suggested and convert to a horizontal photo it always makes it so long with those big black bars at the top and bottom.

Jim, I just checked the photo you mentioned. It is saved as .png. Try converting the original to a .jpeg and you might get a different result. Please reach out to me and maybe we can work through this. 312/786-0424 landline or email: theobaldart@gmail.com.

Nice to see Rod, Wendy and Nancy joining the "posting folks". Beautiful flowering plant Wendy. Nancy - Very nice painting of the eagle. The reconnection with your 100 year old friend is very special. I have had a few times in my life that I have reconnected with people in my distant past (including our HS classmates) and it is always so great to know they are well and to be able to share memories as well as catching up with where life has taken them. For those that have trouble getting their photos upright, I use Windows Paint to fix them. If you need help, let me know and I will gladly help you figure out how to do it. Or, I will fix it after you post it when I am able to get a chance.

As Mel pointed out, I just arrived home Thursday after a three month trip to Texas and Florida Keys so I have been playing catch up on all the things that I fell behind on. I spent a large part of yesterday removing the winter wrappings for the Tiki Bar, power washing it and reinstalling the motor and batteries. Also picked up the abundance of sticks that drop from the trees every winter. A stick burning in the fire pit is in my near future.

One my visits on the way home from Florida was with my brother in Tennessee. He has a collection of antique stuff and with the recent postings of "do you remember" I took the photo below that will bring back memories for anyone in our generation.

On my drive home from the Florida Keys, I was able to watch two Space X Falcon 9 launches on March 31, one a manned launch. Amazing to watch. During a visit to Kennedy Space Center, I experienced a "ride" in a launch simulator. It went through a launch sequence countdown and, short of G-force, provided all of the sound and vibrations astronauts feel and hear in a real launch. Very cool experience. The Atlantis shuttle has a building dedicated to it and is mind boggling to see how big it is and to realize it flew 33 of the 153 shuttle missions by the five shuttles in service. The payload bay is huge. Seeing it helps to realize the importance the shuttle program played in building the International Space Station. Makes me wonder how that kind of program could ever be afforded again in the future to build anykind of living facility in space.

A couple of photos at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

Have driven through Chattanooga, TN many times, I finally took time to stop at Rock City (actually in Georgia) on Lookout Mountain. It has trails that pass through deep narrow crevices and take you to a breathtaking view of Chattanooga. Well worth the time if you are ever in the area.

A final point to add to the recent humor others have shared. Feels more accurate every day.

In answer to the question, yes the photo of Ann Smith, the missionary who turned 100 this year was taken in January of 2025.  It was taken at Park Place Church of God, where she still attends every week. She is mostly blind, but she still gets around. She really looked good, didnt she!  I saw a photo of her exercising with both legs  in a type of strap holding up the ankles, with all the weight on her arms.  I dont know how old she was in that photo, but she looked similar in age.
Yes, I painted the eagle by hand, although I did use a reference photo and trace the shape to get started.  I could have freehanded the drawing, but it would have taken longer, and I wanted to focus on getting it painted quicker.

Before and after of my old turtle.  It is not cement, but has a fybris type material almost like paper mache.  My neighbor gave it to me when she moved out.  I almost threw it away, because there was a hole in the top of its head.  I filled the holes in with modeling paste left from my art teacher days back in the '70s.  It worked.  I still have some oil paints from that time period.  I used artist acrylic paint, then sealed it with gloss varnish by Liquitex.  Time will tell if it fades.  In the bottom photo you can see what it looked like before I painted it.
