James (Jim) Rookus

A Trip down memory lane.....  remember the first several days of COVID 19 !

We didn't dare show our face in public without a mask on our face.  BUT there were none available.  SO, I decided to create my own.  A coffee filter held on my ears by rubberbands, a portion of a 2 liter clear pop bottle with slits on the side slid over an old pair of glasses to hold it against my face.  Believe it or not, I did go to the grocery store with that contraption on my face.  I sure did get a bunch of comments !  That was 4 and a half years ago !  Time sure does fly by !

Karen Sue (Suzi) Denton (Merritt)

hi y'all this is Suzi.  Well, I'm such a klutz and I was in my scooter. Whatever you wanna call it.  I was with my husband, Dave, my daughter, Kelly, and her husband Eric they took me to Walmart and then to Menards.  After we had checked out of Menards and I was in my scooter however getting ready to leave and I pulled up to the doors and they were automatic doors and they open and then they closed so then I thought they were open again and I went forward crashed into the doors. I knocked the doors off the hinges while my daughter and her husband and Dave were all outside, laughing their butts off at my Driving, it's one of those things where you're embarrassed, but wish she had it on video. Anyway that's the story of my life. I'm a klutz.

Happy fall!!  ðŸðŸðŸ

Love you all

Suz

HEY SUZI ... I bet if you had that on video, you could win $10K on Funniest Videos!  Hope you didn't get hurt (well, maybe a bit of pride).

Thanks for the good laugh!  I needed that after just returning from a celebration of life service for a sweet young mom, 32 who just passed away from a year long battle with cancer.  It's a comfort to know she is in the arms of her savior, whom she loved and served so faithfully even up to the end.  She is finally healed !  Pray for Dan and his young girls, 5,3 and 9 months.  We at our church are taking good care of him and the girls, but this won't be an easy road for him.  He also is a doctor and was feeling so helpless not to be able to do anything for her to cure her! So SAD !

Jim,  We are so very sorry for your loss, and agree with your concerns and grief. We do not agree with Mel on thisw issue, we feel that most of us believe in God, therefore, we have a common thread.  We will keep you in our prayers.  Jan and Dennis

As your website administrator, I have only once in the fifteen years since its beginning censored and removed a Message Forum post and it was due to very inappropriate sexual comments from one classmate regarding another. After reading Mel’s early morning post this evening I was inclined to remove it. However, I do not want to set a precedent for censoring comments but strongly feel Mel’s comments to be inappropriate. This website must provide a forum for each of us to freely express ourselves and to share the good things and sad things in our lives without judgment. In my view this class is a family and we are all brothers and sisters.

As Mel’s brother, I am disappointed in his remarks this morning and believe Jim’s request for prayer to be fair and from the heart. He is clearly hurt by this loss and I am saddened that he has to cope with such a tragedy. If those prayers help anyone in any way then I encourage and welcome them. I can only hope Mel’s post does not offend anyone or deter anyone from participating in and enjoying what is a very special means for us to stay connected through this website.

In keeping with this thread, my wife (Jen), of fifty-eight years, has just been placed on Hopice Care.  If, those of you who feel so moved, we would appreciate it if you would lift us up in your prayers. Blessings to you all, Ray.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Jim Rookus, I asked earlier to be forgiven for being so outspoken. The thought of you being hurt by my comments was not at all intended. I have voluntarily removed post #11126, not because of its content, but because it was never meant to offend you or anyone else. Boo had the perfect response to all of this and I thank her for that kindness.

First and most importantly, Ray - I hope a path is found for Jen to get beyond the cause for her Hospice care. I am confident that you cherish every day of those 58 years and wish you many more of the same.

Secondly, Regarding Mel’s removal of his previous post – I appreciate that the comments were voluntarily removed. Hopefully we all recognize the importance of being able to freely express ourselves on this website forum while being mindful of how it might affect others. I know no one including Mel would ever intentionally wish to offend anyone.  Hopefully all is well and we can openly enjoy many more years of sharing through this website.

James (Jim) Rookus

First to Ray Bledsoe ....  so very sorry to hear your news.  One never likes to hear those words "in hospice care".  Will pray for Jen to be kept comfortable in their care for her and for you to have strenght to endure as you are by her side.  Please keep us updated Ray.

Mel...... Sincerely Mel I was not hurt or offended, but I will admit a bit surprized.  Realizing as Marv pointed out we all have the freedom to express ourselfs and I believe that applies to everyone, including you.  You're still my good friend and always will be!

To several who offered support after the posting, THANK YOU !

As Marv said.... "hopefully all is well and we can openly enjoy many more years of sharing through this website."

NOW lets get sharing.... the more the merrier !!!

Thanks Jim. I look forward to talking with you soon. I also want to thank Jack K. for sharing his thoughts with me. He's very wise and was most helpful to me yesterday.

Finally, I want to lend my support to Ray Bledsoe and his wife. I hope you are both able to use whatever time you have together with the same love you have had for the past 58 years. It is a rare accomplishment.

There's my freckled knee and me sitting in the lawn chair exhausted but with a sense of acomlishment ... just removed all leaves from pool so that my sons can come and cover it later!  The bending motion scooping out leaves with the long handled leaf net sure does hurt the lower back after a bout 10 minutes!  HONEY where's the HEAT patches !
Thinking of the pool makes me wonder if Mel is swimimming his years in miles in his pool this year?  I recall he almost made it last year but they closed the pool too soon !

Well by now 15 more leaves are floating on the water ! It never ends !

Larry Carson:

I just received a note this morning.  Thank you for reaching out to me.  Yes, we were in Homeroom together.  Also true that I was pretty quiet at that time of the morning.  That is why you didn't hear a peep out of me.

Thank you again for the outreach.  I hope this finds you and your family happy, healthy, and Blessed.

Thank you all for your expressions of Care and your Prayers.  Your support means a lot to me and my family.  The nurse that is my wifes Case Manager said, in her opinion, Jens' body will probably stop functioning in six to eight weeks. (Of course this is an estimate.)  My wife says she is ready as her quality of live hasn't been very good the last few years.  I realize I do not post very often but I do read your posts daily and enjoy them.  Again, thank you.

Test - Test - Test

Will see if this can be read once posted - it's a process.

Let me know if this works for everyone / anyone.  I open a page from the paper, enlarge it on my MAC, save it as a picture to a separate folder, then attach it to the website as a photo.

It will take a while, but I'm happy to start a project.  It will not be immediate as I had carpal tunne surgery on my right wrist yesterday, and it's supposed to be elevated and on ice.

MEL!  I got the download!  Thanks!  Reading on a 24" MAC is preferable to trying to read on the iPhone.

Best to all,

DCL

Rookus,

You have sons - bet they have better backs than yours - that would seem like a perfect project - - leaf removal and then cover!  Delgation is a wondrful thing.  My son-in-law does all the heavy lifting for Dorothy and me.

James (Jim) Rookus

Dave Long ... you are correct !  Son and grandson were there an hour later and got it covered in 10 minutes.  If I would have tried it ... after about 10 rest breaks I MIGHT have accomplished it in 2 hours !  THANKs for the AEGIS.  It was easy to read by enlarging on my screen!  Hope your wrist heals easily !

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Dave, glad you got the Aegis folders. The test run is somewhat readable. Marv and I have tried to find a means to post all the Aegis issues from 1961-1964. See the menu on the left and you will find the test Marv ran under "Aegis Papers". Problem is that the website reduces them to a smaller size when they are posted, making it hard to read.

I have digitized all those issues and can forward them to anyone interested, including the first ever issue of the Aegis from 1897. Send me an email at theobaldart@gmail.com and I'll send the file to you through WeTransfer, a free service for sending hi-res files.

Dave, sorry to hear about yet another surgery. You might want to save your wrist until Marv has completed his attempt to finish uploading everything.

I'll hold off - the ice pack keeps moving the mouse - and it tries to help with the typing.
