Sandy:

So glad you had a good time and that there was a good turn-out.    I know what you mean by those high stools.   I find my left ankle swells when I sit on a higher chair or stool.  It really gets uncomfortable for me.  I hope you are ok with sitting on them.

Thanks for the report on the mini-reunion!

Love ya, Linda

Glad there was a good turnout for the mini reunion.  Dave wasn't up to par.  He had a new pacemaker and defibrillator put in a week ago and he can't drive so that's why we didn't go.  Sandy I know what you mean about the tall chairs.   Boy I get on one (thanks to some male friends) I feel like I need to be tied into the chair.

Once again we had a nice turnout at our summer mini-reunion. Steve Chestney and Dave Long were among the participants. It was the first sighting of either of them in a long time. Glad they were able to join us. Sorry, but I did not take photos this time. No good reason except that I was enjoying visiting so much it did not become a priority. I know many of you that are not able to attend these events look forward to the photos. Will try to be more responsible in December.

A couple of weeks ago, on Purple Heart Day, there were many names listed in The Pantragraph to honor Purple Heart Recpients.  One name I recognized was Bill Buff.

Tim Haney's obituary was in The Pantagraph a few days ago and his funeral is today at 2:00 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home.  I didn't know him, but knew of him.  I checked the yearbooks and he was in our class in 1963, but not in 1964.  He must have moved and graduated from another school.

For those that don't get The Pantagraph, I thought you might like to know this information.

Yes, Linda, the site has been quiet lately.   I miss hearing from people, also.

Tim Haney and I were best friends in grade school through high school. Tim went to church every Sunday and Wednesday evening. Took Trumpet and piano lessons. Got good grades in school. ln our Junior year of high school Tim's mother passed away. Tim quit school and got his GED in the Army after he was drafted. His Army tour was in Germany. Never once heard Tim say a cuss word or touch alcohol or cigarettes. Tim helped start the Central Illinois 1955 through 1957 Cevy club. He also played 1950's music at the Cruise nights at Steak n Shake in the 80's.

Thanks, Richard, for the information about Tim Haney.  Although, I didn't know him, I liked reading what you wrote about his life.

Thank you for telling us about Tim Haney.  I didn't know him either.  But with your help, I have a bit of insight into him now.   Thank you.

According to Facebook, August 21 is Senior Citizen's Day.  So I wish all of my senior friends  good health and a happy life.

I asked Liz Spillman Alex if she knew any senior citizens?  She said no.  We are recycled teenagers.  So true.  ha-ha

I know I am in my 2nd set of teen years. What few friends I have left are always asking when I am going to give up motorcycles.Been buying them every since 1967. Rode to Washburn IL for lunch with 10 other Harleys last Saturday. Outside of myself the oldest rider was 57.

Thanks Linda for the reply.

Richard,  My Dad had a Harley Hog and rode until he was in his upper 60's. Until he got sick and had to sell it.  My Mom was on oxygen but they would put her oxygen tank in the saddle bag and away they would go.  My Son, who is 57, had a Harley Hog, but sold it and now has a Honda Trike.  I feel like he is safer with that Trike than on two wheels and it is heavier so no skidding, etc. And I feel like people can see him better.   Anyway, that's what I tell myself. haha

Happy riding and be safe.

OK you two!   Do you know how to recognize a happy motorcyclist?

By the bugs in his teeth!

Thanks for putting up with me-----

Do you know what a Harley and a German Sheperd have in common? They both spend a lot of time in the back of a pickup!

Well I did it again.  I twisted my foot and broke a bone in my foot.  I'm supposed to wear a boot but it makes my foot hurt more. Oh well it is what it is.

Suzi:  So sorry to hear about a broken bone in your foot!   It is time to get you a four-leaf clover, and......a rabbit's foot for good luck!

Hope all goes well for you!

Love ya, Linda

Suzi - Your going to have to cut back on the alcohol. Just kidding. I had to wear a nylon boot when I got run over by a backhoe in Leroy. Was in the Leroy nusing home for 5 weeks. The nurses were always on me about that boot and getting out of bed to go to the bathroom without their assistance. I would turn on the llight for assistance. Couple times it was over 30 minutes before they would show up. I lost 40 pounds in those 5 weeks. The  head nurse came in to talk to me about my weight loss. I told her it could have something to do with their cooking. She got out of her chair and didn't come back. Good luck with your foot. Back in 1971 I broke 3 bones in my left foot riding trails at Lake Evergreen before they flooded it with water. Couple years later I was in the emergency room because I pulled the tip my index finger off. Dr. Doud said at least you didn't do it on a motorcycle.

Suzi,

Very sorry to hear about the break in your foot.  I've experienced it a couple of times. The 1st was in high school when Ken Hoy steped on my foot while wearing cleats during football practice.  Back then, they set the foot by grabbing my heal and my toes and pulling until it went back in place.  Ouch!  The second time was a break and dislocation of my big toe that I "set myself".  Bad idea!

Stay off it as much as possible.  Elevate to keep the swelling down.  Use whatever mobility devices that you are providied with.  Slowing down for a short period is so much beteer than the long term pain and difficulties you may experience later.  Speaking from one who knows.

All the best!

Hmmm.  So as of today, 3/4 of 2023 is over.  That means Christmas is on its way!

Linda - I understand that 5 out of every 4 people are bad at math. At least you made a quick recovery unlike many who would never realize they were one of the 5. Hmmmm - No wonder I always feel so confused!

I'm feeling pretty peppy after Liz and Sandy making me aware of still being a teenager, recycled several times over as I am.

Rich and Sandy - I had a Hog once and named it Otis. It got away from me the one time I tried to load it into the back of my pickup truck. It took me over an hour of wrestling to finally get it on the truck. I was totally exhausted. At one point I had given up and got a gun to shoot that darned Hog. We finally made it to the butcher and later enjoyed every meal that included Otis. I never tried riding my Hog but had a heck of a wrestling match the time he ran off. Your Hogs must have been a lot more tame than mine since you rode yours a lot. Ohhh - Maybe I'm still confused!

By the way - speaking of Hogs - Today is International Bacon Day. Hope you take time to enjoy a BLT compliments of Otis' distant relatives.

Marvin, thanks for the laugh about your hog, Otis.   And the laugh about international Bacon Day.  I had no idea.  But my compliments to the memory of Otis and his relatives.   ha-ha
