Steve, welcome to Gramp's World!  I enjoy hearing of your travels.  Are you planning your next trip across the pond, or is Charlie planning on visiting you soon? Grandpa is a great fraternity; our 4yo grandson spent about an hour on my lap yesterday playing 'tickle monster' and "helping" me play Yahtzee with the 5 & 8 year olds.

This is my favorite "youngest grandson":

Mel,

The way I insert Wordle, is after completing the puzzle, I click on the share link which copies it to the clipboard, then I open Raiders and paste it from the clipboard into the conversation.  At least that's how I do it on the Mac - I'll try to figure it out on the iPhone and see if it works the same way.  I don't have any Microsoft devices in the house to try on if you're not using IOS.

Progress on the Condo:

The pantry is installed sans handles.  The handyman is coming again on Wednesday to address several outstanding issues, e.g. installing a new fan/light in the office; repairing a self-close drawer that doesn't; build some shelves in the bedroom, etc..  We have the requisite furniture ordered.  The missing item - I can't pull the trigger on my new TV which was the one thing I wanted with the move.  I know it will be 65" QLED, the question is which brand.  Research says Samsung, but viewing at Costco brought Sony into the mix.....decisions, decisions.  Suggestions?

Has anyone been bing-watching any interesting, attention-grabbing shows?   What do you like and would recommend?  What would you pass on if you knew what you know now before watching the show.  Please include which network or streaming service the show is on.

Thanks for any suggestions!!

What we've been watching, and enjoying:

NETFLIX

     The Diploma

     Transatlantic

HULU

     Alaska Daily

Ya beat me.  I hate doubles.

Re binge watching.  My son raved about breaking bad .... maybe you saw it on regular tv.  I binged, 6 seasons I think.  Enthralled for quite awhile but must say, it got darker and darker in the later parts and I had to force myself to watch it.  Just to see what happened.

Better Call Saul, it's spinoff, I enjoyed all the way through.  Both on netflix.

Just began the last season of Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime)

other than that, haven't seen much lately.  I'd recommend Fleabag and Queens Gambit.

Probably you've seen Downton Abbey.  Had no prior interest but hooked into binging it & loved it.

Dave and Steve,

Being new to Wordle, I didn't know you could use the same letter twice or I might have gotten today's answer sooner. So like Steve it took me into the 5th frame before I got it. Still haven't figured out how to post the results.  So far, I've played Wordle 6 times and gotten them all. I think you would have to be asleep at the wheel not to get it in six tries. Anyway, I clicked "Share" but don't know how to do "Clipboard" to Raiders64. Maybe tomorrow or in another lifetime, I'll figure it out.

Steve,

Like you, I had to go to the sixth round today before I got it. Dave is on a lucky streak. I'll try to post my results tomorrow. I'm not sure that this is going to get more Raiders64 people to jump in, which is what this was all about, but it's worth trying. At least we're giving it our best effort. Any one else up for Wordle? If not, do you have some ideas on how to pull our classmates out of their shells?

Well, I just spent nearly an hour of my life trying my hand at this Wordle thing. On my second try I had three letters and one location right. On my third try I had three letters and locations. That's when it got ugly. I identified 10 different words that would fit and tried four of them all wrong exhausting my six allowed attempts. The correct word was on my list. Based on the color charts posted by Dave and Steve we all narrowed it down to the same three correct letter positions by the second and third tries. Dave had a very lucky guess to get it on his third try and Steve fairly lucky on his sixth try given that there were at least 10 different words that would have worked. If you attempt this game be prepared to spend some time on it.

I have to admit it was an interesting challenge. Give it a try if you are looking for something to do.

Hello Everyone,

Just offering my condolences on the passing of classmates recently. ( Looking back at reunion pictures, so many gone since then. )Everyday is a blessing, but our eternal home will be even better!

As for Wordle, it's a challenge but I usually get it in six! Choosing the right first word helps! It gets easier Marv!

We have been busy celebrating Daves 80th birthday! He is so blessed to be so healthy! Still playing tennis 3 times a week . Our son Brian came up and surprised him at a tennis party I planned.

We definitely will be in Bloomington this summer, but not sure when? Brother Ray, now has metastatic cancer in both lungs. Treatment options are mostly palliative.

Think of you all often and remember high school fondly!

Boo

OK, Dave and Steve, I've got it. Not quite as lucky as Dave, but after 8 games, I'm 100% with 2 at 3/6, 3 at 4/6, 1 at 5/6 and 2 at 6/6.

I just noticed that they keep stats.  I've played 107 times.  My finishes 1 thru 6 are: 5,10,36,29,30,3 .... and 11 total misses.  1 of course is pure luck - 2 pretty much is luck, too, I look at 3 and 4 as the sweet spot. Just sayin'

I did something different--went fishing and caught a nice mess of Crappie. I'll have to try wordle on a rainy day.

Boo, so sorry to hear about your brother.  I'll say prayers for him.  🙏🙏🙏>p>

Glad Dave is healthy and he had a great Birthday.  How are you doing?

My nephew and his wife came out from California this week and they are up at Northern Illinois University to see their grandson play baseball.  They played ISU yesterday so some of the family went to the game.  They went back up to NIU last night.

I hope everyone is doing great.

Suzi

Dave and Steve,

This is my lucky day as you can see. I'm going to quit while I'm ahead. If you will pardon me for my thoughts on Wordle: I've come to the conclusion that it is not going to help make Raiders64 come alive. This will be my last Wordle post, but it doesn't mean I'll stop working them.

All the other Raiders64,

Let's brainstorm another avenue. How about "Ourselves in Our Favorite Places" as a topic to kick this off? It could be from any time or place: vacation, city, country, or secret spot from last week, year or century. But it should include you as evidence of having been there. Post only one photo at a time and add another every week or so. Please jump in.

This photo of me standing next to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was taken by Bill Rusk. We met there in August 1967 when he was stationed in Germany.

Sandra Jeakins (Singletary Sizemore)

Not sure why, but I've thinking about our foreign exchange student Sirinarth Poolthong from Thailand.  Has anybody kept up with her over the years?

Congratulations on your nice catch of Crappie, David B. It has been nice weather for fishing.  I noticed there has been a lot of people fishing Miller Park since April 1st, when the DNR did the annual stocking of Rainbow Trout. Ron caught a really nice Rainbow Trout in Arkansas during a Bass Tournament.  He had to buy a trout stamp after he caught it because he wasn't fishing for trout and didn't have one.  They put up a good fight and are fun to catch.  Although, so are Crappie, or any fish are fun, if you can catch them..

Good idea Mel.  I look forward to seeing some pictures of people's favorite places.  Right now, my favorite place is my home.

Mel,

Great Idea!

I'll throw this on into the mix.  The year is 2000.  Spring break with the family to the Grand Canyon.  This is me sitting on the edge.

We moved to California in the summer of 1962, so my memory of most classmates is frozen in time. I remembered the name Tim Schmidt and found this handsome boy in our sophomore class. (Top row left, bottom group.)

MARV I saw in the paper that Dennis Johnson passed away.  I think he's the same one that graduated with us.

Thank you Suzi! Dennis was in our class. I have updated the In Memory section including his obituary. I remember Dennis but never got to know him. It is always sad to learn of the loss of our classmates that we shared so many of the same experiences with in our school days. My best wishes to his family as they mourn his passing.

Today's Picture: Friday, April 28, 2023

At the summit of Pike's Peak.  A tension packed drive up the mountain and even more so on the way down.  They fail to warn you about altitude sickness before the journey up.  I should have known from all the ski trips, but it caught me by surprise at the top.
