Marvin,  Thank you for posting pictures of the mini-reunion.  I enjoyed seeing them and I could tell everybody was having a good time.  I was so sorry to have to miss it. Saturday night, my thoughts were there with everybody.  Door County was not what we expected.  It's a trip that you have to plan for, months ahead of time, not spur of the moment, like we did to make reservations for boat tours and motels, etc.  But my Son and his wife and I had a safe trip and had fun, just being together.  But I hated missing the reunon. Like you said, I messed up my perfect record since I started going a few years ago.  I'm thinking that was in 2016 at Gill's.   I have Charlie Crabtree to thank for encouraging me to attend.

Great Pictures of everyone, even when viewed from afar!  Hope to be able to join the fun in December by having a less than 7 hour drive time.  No "move" date as yet, still waiting to sell in Kansas before we move, even though now owning 2 residences.

I just just got a new socket, #7, since the amputation almost 6 years ago.  I have a great prosthetist.  She did a custom socket for me.  Still getting used to the different fit and have to have the knee/leg programming tweaked some more.

We see the pictures of the guys with artifical limbs running and walking up stairs and think "why can't I do that?"  Age takes its toll on the ability to adapt.

Best to all!

David Long:

Congratulations on that new socket!  Reminds me of Rowan and Martins 'Laugh In' and Judy Carns saying sock it to me!   I have a cake recipe called 'Sock it to Me' Cake.  I would make one and send it to you but it would probably be just crumbs by the time it ships!

I pray that this is just what you needed!

Linda

Yesterday the news here announced our first case of Monkey Pox.  Is there any of it where you live?

Linda,  the first case was reported in Woodford County the other day.  None in McLean County, yet  They didn't say what town, but it was reported from Eureka.

Suzi:

Thank you.  I received your message about my sister.  Actually 8/6/2022 my last brother died, then, 4 days later on 8/10/2022, my sister Bonnie died.

My daughter said 'they were dropping like flies'!  Out of 9 of us it is just me and my sister Marcia who is 5 years older.  We lost 7 of them in 6 years.  Gratefully, all of them had good long lives.

Love ya, Linda

Hey Suzi:

I understand what you mean.  I have a son and twin girls who were born 3 months early and died.  But........I don't want my siblings to look around for my kids!    Hands off !!!!!!    They can pick on me but not my children!

I'll bet this surprized you!

Love ya, Linda

Linda--I am sorry to hear of your siblings passing.  I have not had that experience yet, but my Brother in law died quite suddenly from an aneurism a few years ago.He was only 62, and my sister took it hard.  Love and prayers for your comfort.. Dave Brock

I'm so sorry to hear of all the losses of friends and family.  We recently had dinner with the wife of one of my best friends that died of a massive stroke / brain bleed.  We then learned that her son-in-law was killed in a car accident in an Uber on the way to O'Hare.  Since things ususaly happen in 3s, please, everyone take extra care.

I thought that everyone might enjoy a little Old Age humor so here goes:

Some Truths for Seniors

  •
I’m responsible for what I say, not what you understand.

  •
  • Common sense is like deodorant. The people who need it the most never use it.

  •
  • My tolerance for idiots is extremely low these days. I used to have some immunity built up, but obviously there's a new strain out there.

  •
  • It’s not my age that bothers me; it’s the side effects.

  • I’m not saying I’m old and worn out, but I make sure I’m nowhere near the curb on rubbish day.

  •
  • As I watch this generation try and rewrite our history, I'm sure of one thing: It will be misspelled and have no punctuation.

  •
  • As I’ve got older, people think I’ve become lazy. The truth is I’m just being more energy efficient.

  •
  • I haven't got anything done today. I've been in the Produce Department trying to open this stupid plastic bag.

  •
  • If you find yourself feeling useless, remember it took 20 years, trillions of dollars, and four presidents to replace the Taliban with the Taliban.

  •
  • Turns out that being a "senior" is mostly just googling how to do stuff.

  •
  • I want to be 18 again and ruin my life differently. I have new ideas.

  • I'm on two diets. I wasn't getting enough food on one.

  •
  • I put my scale in the bathroom corner and that's where the little liar will stay until it apologizes.

  •
  • My mind is like an internet browser. At least 19 open tabs, 3 of them are frozen, and I have no clue where the music is coming from.

  •
  • Hard to believe I once had a phone attached to a wall, and when it rang, I picked it up without knowing who was calling.

  •
  • Apparently RSVPing to a wedding invitation "Maybe next time" isn't the correct response.

  •
  • She says I keep pushing her buttons. If that were true, I would have found mute by now.

  •
  • So there are people who have been eating hot dogs and McChickens all their lives, but they won’t take the vaccine because they don’t know what’s in it. Are they kidding me?

  •
  • Sometimes the Universe puts you in the same situation again to see if you’re still as dumb.

  •
  • There is no such thing as a grouchy old person. The truth is that once you get old, you stop being polite and start being honest.

Wow! David, that looks like something that Marty McFly wore in "Back To The Furure" !  Is that an Automatic or 5 speed?

Please don't drink and drive while wearing that monster! My friend Rich Gray, is a mechanical genious. He might be able to tune that thing up, so that you can get a few more MPG.

The best to you my friend!

Thought for today -

It's something I sent to a friend in our "friendly" discourse.  It really is friendly, just on different sides of an issue.

This was posted on Facebook for Suzi's memories the other day.  It was from 2017 and this was my first mini-reunion that I attended.   I had said earlier that I thought my first was in 2016.  But I was wrong. It was the summer after I retired in  December of 2016.  A lot of people thought I was Charlie's wife, which meant, those people didn't remember me.  ha-ha   Thought everybody would like to remember Charlie in this picture..I was glad to see and save these pictures again because they had been on an old computer that died so I had lost all of them.  Now I have them again.  Thanks, Suzi for sharing them again on Facebook.

David - Mike doesn't know I have two rules when it comes to mechanics. One I never work on anything newer than 1964. Two I only work on my own vehicles. I did have a thought on making your one speed go faster. Ask Cheryl Turner if she still has a roller skate from our Jefferson School days, If you try this I would increase all your insurance policies, it could be hazardous to your health, On second thought why not just take it easy, go slow and stay healthy. It works for me. Good luck with your leg and may you live a long and healthy life. Rich

WE ARE INCREDIBLE!

I came   across  some interesting information about our bodies that I wanted to share.  I hope you find it as fasinating:

WHAT YOUR BODY DOES IN A DAY

Sometimes you may feel like your body is beginning to creak and fail you on the outside, but do you ever stop to consider the incredible work that is taking place inside of it? There is so much going on and everything fits together so well, that it's almost impossible to comprehend it. This presentation will remind you that there are miracles going on inside your body every single day.

Brain

Stomach

Thanks Dave!!! I also totally enjoyed the education you provided regarding our body functions. My curiosity led me to calculate the amount of blood our hearts pump with each beat.  A gallon (256 tablespoons) of blood weighs 141.6 ounces (water is 133.44 ounces) resulting in an average of 2.83 ounces or 5.1 tablespoons of blood per heart beat.

Growing older is a privilege I think about and appreciate every day and regularly think of those we were classmates with that have been denied the privilege the rest of us continue to enjoy. Make every day as enjoyable and productive you can. Every day truly is a distinct privilege. As for me, hot dog popsicles are not on my happiness wish list but I guess "don't knock it until you've tried it" applies. Let us know what you think if you have been adventurous to try it.

Everyone is talking about their knee surgery so I thought I'd let you know I'm having shoulder surgery tomorrow morning.  I sure hope it helps.  I can't lift my arm and I have had the dropsy.  I have a torn Rotator cup and torn bicep.

I'll see if the doctor will cut all this fat off of me!!  That sure would be nice but I think he would said take a hike lady!!
