Who can tell us where this was?

Ann Bailen

Was this the old hotel on Front Stree?

11/30/10 01:12 PM #40

Milan Jackson

That's it. The old Hamilton Hotel. So many of our old buildings are gone.

Ok, here is another one. Where was this and what was this?

Is that the Lafayette Apts. on the corner of Washington & McLean???

Milan Jackson

No but good guess, Cheryl. :)

Turkish Baths of Bloomington, lol?  No, might this be the old YWCA where I went to those dances where the girls stood on one side?

12/01/10 01:09 PM #46

Milan Jackson

Nope. It's the other Y. :)

This is the old YWCA.

I should have known.  The YMCA is where I learned how to swim in the 50's, and regularly hit the heavy bag downstairs in the basement during the later 60's.  Mr. Read (Read's Sporting Goods) worked out there every day...kind of a trend setter.  As for the YW, I lived about a block away, remember the dances and how we went to the Green Mill afterwards.  Had to be home by 10:30.

The Green Mill here too. But on special nights, a dad would drive us over to Casella's for pizza.

Was the Green Mill on Washington Street?  I mean I've been gone for 41 years.

12/01/10 04:14 PM #51

Milan Jackson

Yes, the Green Mill was at 212 W. Washington St. Just west of People's Bank.

This one is  little tougher. If you can't name the place, tell where it was.

The Class of 1963 and the Class of 1964 are having a joint venture. We are having a dinner at Alexanders Steakhouse in Normal on December 27. That is the Monday after Christmas. Social time from 4 til 6 and dinner at 6pm. We do need to know who is coming so they have the proper set-up for us. We have their private room so we can move around and talk a lot. We will order from the menu so the cost is up to you. No other charges but the standard gratuity added for a group.

Also is a breakfast on December 24, Christmas Eve. It's at Shannon's on Mercer and Veteran's Pkwy. That starts at 8am. Also we need a count so we can reserve enough room for all of us. We've had several already respond so let me know.

We have used Alexanders and Shannon's before. Alexanders is decent but the best part is that they don't kick us out after dinner. Shannon's is a favorite of our for much the same reason. They let us start breakfast at 8 and if we want to talk until noon, they don't care.

Cheryl, your hair looks great. You have changed very little from high school days. Nice pictures

I lived next door to Dianne Shaffer, and I can't picture Dianne on a Harley. Isn't it great that we change?

Just for the sake of conversation, remember this?

Jack Habich's Mr. Read. Dick Read was a very popular guy in our generation.

And like I said, my Mr. Read used to work out at the Y about every day, years before the health club craze.  There was an indoor track like on the second or third floor, might have been overlooking the basketball court, but that's where you most often found him.  Last time I saw him was at the '99 reunion..at breakfast afterwards.

Milan, thanks so much for your kind words.  You know a woman and her hair are very important!!

And a man and his hair don't stay together long enough. If you've seen me lately, you will know mine fell off or I pulled it out. (laugh)

It doesn't really fit here but I love the music. :)

We have a local trivia going here. Look at message #52. Anyone know the answer? I'll settle for the location. As a kid, I didn't really know what was in that building.
