Mike:

Fitted sheets........folding is easy.  Just lay the sheet on the bed, with the elastic part on top.  Fold just enough on each side, up and over toward the center.   This gives you straight edges to complete folding.  That's it!

If women invented this to get married.............they were really out to lunch.  Should you meet a chick that is using tricks to get married..................RUN, don't walk, the other way!

Good luck!

Linda

Thanks for the useful tip on folding the sheets. I received several new fitted sheets as a gift and after laundry I wanted to put them in the linen closet. I had them in impossible knots. I resorted to watching YouTube and of course they made it look easy, tucking the corners and right over left until the thing looked perfect. After an hour of frustration I had one folded, but it looked like a parachute.

So much for Martha Stewart!            Thanks Linda.

I am getting better slowly. I am eating mostly real food instead of Boost. Still have a swallowing problem but getting there. I have lost 72 lbs since late November so I am a bit weak from that. But I will recover in probably better shape that I was before the cancer. Thanks for asking.

Thanks Jack, Linda, Suzi, and any others thinking about us sicklies.

Milan.  It's great to hear your doing better.  It's usually a good thing to lose the weight, but it's just not the diet you want to be on.  As they say down here, since this is not my first rodeo, I can relate to what you are feeling.  Just try to take it day by day.  Food will start to taste better, your weight will increase, your energy level will increase, and you will start to feel much better.

Just remember Milan, and anyone else who may face a health problem.  When the Devil whispers in your ear, "You'll never survive the storm."  Pull him real close, and whisper in his ear, "I am the storm."

Well, the Cubbies are rolling right along.  I think Cincy will falter.  With Marte gone for 80 games, the Pirates are going to hurt and the Birds just don't have the  guys to put on a push.

The big draft is coming up.  I hope the Bears can help themselves.  At least Jay Boy is gone.  What a waste he was.

Jack, I didn't really think that was Ralph Emery.  But, you never know?   That machine guy I think was known as Machine Gun Kelly.  You seem know a lot about the early days of The Chicago Syndicate boys.  Someday, maybe we'll talk and I'll tell you some stories about the Kankakee River, a  very large pond and a Motel, (probably gone now) just south of Joliet.  Most of these stories came from 2nd. & 3rd. generations of shall we say, the Families.

Oh Mike.  Don't fold those sheets.  Take'em off, wash'em and put'em back on.  No problem

I gotta go, but Marv & Mel.  I gotta ask you guys something that only a handfull of us can relate to.  It's about Oakland School.  Mostly in the summer when school is out.  I'll get back to ya'll.

Rod

Rod I still have found memories of Oakland school especially Mr. Glenwright and Mrs. Wood and also Geraladine Stewart who was our principal.

Glad you and Milan and David Long are improving. Always good to hear!

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Rod, can't wait to hear your question. Sounds intriguing. Like Allida, many of us who went to Oakland School have special memories of the teachers and school yard. Looking back on it, it is as if we were "free range" kids compared to today. Let me add a couple of names to Allida's list, especilly Mrs. Warren (2nd grade). Miss Mapes (kindergarten), Miss Nugent (1st grade), Mrs. Spahr (3rd grade) and Mrs. Purdy for those of us who were bused to Jefferson School in 4th grade. They were all so so special. Before Mrs. Wood (6th grsde) passed away, I had the good fortune of being in contact with her. She was living in Virgina with her German shepard and, of course, she remembered almost everyone. We were all very lucky.

Another indelible memory of those days was DeMents Grocery store next to the school. Geez, the things we did to that poor guy. How many of our Raiders64 family were on the Uncle Al Show on WBLN-TV channel 15?

Bring it on Rod. I'm waiting. :-)

Mel I remember all those teachers! However I did like 4th grade when I was bussed to Jefferson. For whatever reason that was a hard year for me. Fifth grade was so good and Mr. Glenright was a godsend! Suzi I hope we can be there in May. Would love to see everyone.

I shared a cup of coffee this morning with a life long friend and classmate, Larry Carson. Larry said that he enjoys reading the "message forum" posts. It never occurred to me that a lot of our friends enjoy the web site, though they may not post regularly. I'm proud to be a member of the Class of '64. Every classmate is important to me. Some of us share a long history.

Thanks to everyone that has put in so much hard work to make this site successful.

You know Allida, you really do know Oakland school very well.  I remember all those teachers.  I had Mrs. Warren in 2nd and I really liked her.  When you look back, Mrs. Stewart was a really good Principle.  I remember getting bussed, but I was one of those who went to Emerson.  I remember I made some new friends, but I never liked that school??  My Mother had all the class pictures and I have them here somewhere.  I'll try to find them and post them.

Mel & Marv.  First,  you really brought back a memory for me.  I don't remember for sure, but I think I was on the Uncle Al Show.  When ever my parents would take me to school, we always picked up an older gentleman by the name of Mr. Benecky.  He was a really great guy,  My Dad always gave him a ride downtown when he needed.  Well, his grandson, (Bob), lived with him and he was one of the guys who started that station.  He always talked about how TV would be the next big thing since the phone.  Then you mention DeMent's.  Only those of us who hung out there could ever relate to the times we had there.  Talk about a small world.  The DeMent's had a daughter somewhat older than us.  Their daughter had a daughter and our daughter was her flower girl at her wedding.  Did I lose you.  Ha!  Anyway, here is what I wanted to tell you.  Of course you guy's remember the massive amount of kids who were always at Oakland School ALL the time.  Well, the other day I was observing my grandsons riding their Hoverboards.  All of sudden I thought, OMG, if we would have had those back in the day.  The Rescue Squad would have to have a special unit there all the time.  Really, think about it.  With that huge playground, the walks all around the school, that long walk to your house area, and the parking lot.  You know, in the summer you could count on at least 50 kids there.  We would have had so much fun.  Bikes would become a thing of the past.  Think about it.

GO CUBS!!!!

I could be proven wrong and I hope so.  But, I think the Bears made a huge, huge, horrible mistake in the 1st. round of the draft.  Not just from a player standpoint, but it's going to be a costly, $$$$$, mistake.  What do you think Jack?

Rod

Rod, I think I was in Dements every day after school when I was in the 5th and 6th grade. What memories! The year I was bussed to Jefferson my sister was bussed to Emerso. Why they split families up like that I will never know. Remember how we went home for lunch everyday. Now kids barely have time to eat. Loved the big display cases that each classroom had that were always decorated. It would be interesting to see what the inside of the school looks like now. Everyone have a great day. Right now in sunny San Diego seeing my sister. Have been here since last Friday. Heading home tomorrow. Talk to everyone later.

Suzi:

I heard you loud and clear.  Try this instead.

DOLE Soft Serve from Walt Disney World:

Dole Frozen Pineapple chunks

1 frozen banana

1 to 2 cups of Chilled Coconut Milk

Put ingredients into your blend. Use 1/2 of the Coconut milk to start and add more if too thick.  Serve.

A little of this is satisfying for a sweet tooth!

Love ya, Linda

Mike Franks -- you had me rolling in the isle (or on the rug) with some of your comments / observations in the message forum, especially the one about "cheating" at Old Maid with your 6 year old granddaughter.  I recently updated my profile to include my third grandchild (who's now four years old -- you'll have to look up my profile to see HER gender -- chuckle, chuckle).  But I have to mention that I like to see how old friends (such as you, Mike, David Long, Ron Gibson, and others) are doing.  I hope to make it to one or two of the mini-reunions again this year.  This post is being typed at < 15 WPM (I wasn't much faster in eighth grade typing class, where Kathryn Bell reached the stratospheric 60 WPM level).  Nice seeing you again, Mike.
