Thanks everyone! Back to work at Yosemite. We got several feet of snow the past few days and it is still snowing. We are going to open our ski area on Saturday. This will be the first year I will be working there. I usually work at the information/tour desk or lead people on hikes in the summer. Our ski area is the oldest ski area in California. It is small with only four runs downhill, miles of cross-country trails, a sledding and tubing area, and a beautiful old lodge. We also have a ice skating rink in the valley. My cousin, Ron DeVary, taught me how to ice skate at Miller Park many years ago. Enjoy winter!

Larry:

It sounds beautiful there.  Maybe we need to have a summer class reunion there!

I don't deal with snow at all.   Left that in Illinois!   My children and grandchildren all love it because they didn't grow up with snow.

Glad you enjoy where you live!

In my little corner of the desert, I'm thankful for the guy that invented airconditioning!

David Long

Hi All,

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year.

Thought I'd give you a quick update on what is happening out this way.  Last year, 2016, MRSA infection was discovered in my left knee.  This is the same knee with already 2 artificial knees installed.  In June, I underwent another surgery to remove the infected knee and install antibiotic treated spacers and antibiotic beads. (This was surgery # 14)  Between June and August, I went to the hospital daily for IV Antibiotic Infusion.  In August, a 4th knee was installed. (Surgery #15) Six weeks later another infection was found, this one was e-coli - yes, the same one you get from poop and raw meat.  At that time the knee was taken out and cleaned then reinstalled (Surgery #16).  I remained on IV Infusion and in November yet another infection was discovered, this time a very difficult to treat staph infection.  On December 21st, after getting several 2nd opinions, I made the decision to have the leg amputated before the staph goes septic and spreads to the organs.  A week from today, on January 20th, I'll be having an above the knee amputation. (Surgery #17).  An to think this all started with twisting my knee in Nam.  The surgery dates are scattered from 1971 through today.  I'm just hoping this is the last surgery and ask that you keep me in your prayers.

I apologize for all the missed birthday wishes and hope to do a better job of keeping in touch this year.

All the Best,

Dave

Good grief David:

I don't blame you one bit.  Enough is ENOUGH!

Dave, it was painful reading everything you have gone through before arriving at this decision. I wish you the best for a successful surgery tomorrow. Hopefully, this will once and forall put this problem behind you. What you are gaining is much more important than what you are losing. You're Marine spirit and toughness will get you through this in good shape. We'll all be rooting for you and want to hear that you are healthy and happy and pain free. All the best to you and Dorothy.

Today is a  big 'whoop-tee-damn-do-day' for many reasons across our country.  Hope and dreams abound for many Americans.

Prayers are in place for David.

Can you  imagine the impact if our class all took a moment of prayer for Blessing David and our country?

Linda

Suzi,

I'm glad you must have missed my birthday.  When I didn't see your wish I thought I must have died.

Keep fighting to everyone with a serious health issue. I know it is tough. Keep active and positive as hard as it may be. I had never been sick a day in my life until I found out I had stage 4 prostate cancer. It took a lot of adjustments to my new life style, however I continued to hike, run, play basketball, camp, and all of the other things that made my life so much fun. I am working at our ski resort in Yosemite National Park this winter, then back Yosemite Valley in the spring to fall working my information booth and leading hikes. Medical drugs are can only do so much to cure. The rest is up to you.

And for all of you football fans, watch out for my RAIDERS, (Oakland or maybe Las Vegas: OK Bloomington too!) next year! I tell my kids and grandkids and Great-grandkids that I have been a RAIDER all of my life! Go Atlanta in this years Superbowl.

Shoot I've known you longer than most of our classmates.

I must say we are in a stage of our lives where we see so many of our friends and family going through some very hard times.  Please keep your faith in God as he can and will help even though his plan for each of us is not always what our plan is.  Dan and Milan, Steve Wilson, Linda and so many of you were grade school neighbors and play mates of mine.  I pray for you and ask for comfort and peace for you.  If you live in Bloomington, Roger and I go the the most wonderfull small church "Network Bible Fellowship" (check out the website) with the kindest paster, Dan Jassman.  If you ever need a prayer or comfort, the members (Patty Miller Popejoy is one) would be very happy to assist you.  We are small but we are powerful. I just had foot surgery and came through this knowing so many were there for me. They are there to help me no matter what I need.  Milan, Danny and Rod and David.  Every time I read this forum I add another name to my prayer list and encourage all of you to do the same.  Each prayer counts.  Each of you has a way of helping.  Keep positive, keep smiling, keep sharing as this is our way of supporting each other.  God bless each of you.

Dianne and others who have shown concern for me, I hate to sound self-serving but what you say really helps. There are times you are just down and a quick pick me up is some of the nice things said in this group. Having friends makes you feel rich, it also makes you feel stronger. God bless you all and thanks for the support. Now the rest of you sickies, GET WELL !!!!!!!!!!!!!  :)

Well said Dianne.  God takes care of all his people, we just have to let him.

Suzi,

I'm feeling much better about getting older now.  If you are referring to Emerson School days, you're right about the "longer than most" part.

Dianne, that was an interesting post. I agree. A few years ago I had the privledge of taking the Walk to Emmaus, (now known as The Great Banquet). I met Dan Jassman and I really liked him. Have you and your husband experienced that retreat?

I'll check out the Network Bible Fellowship website.  Thanks
