Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Just talked to Marv, and as Milan suggested, Jim wanted his name removed when we having the 45th reunion. Sadly, his father, whom many of us remember fondly, has passed on. Sometimes we just have to let go.

I remember the Morin house on Oakland Ave. very well from the outside, but don't remember ever being inside it.

I've been remorsefully uncommunicative for a while, but still take a peek now and then. It is so good to see so many new faces here.

Obviously, everyone has moved into the life they have built, but that doesn't exclude you from the life you had. I love hearing anything anyone has to say.

I was mistaken about Joe Morin. I posted his obituary this morning. You can find it under In Memory.

I'm sure everyone remembers, but I just re-confirmed with Marvin Theobald that our 50th reunion is Aug. 16, 2014 at Bloomington Country Club.

Does anyone know how much we're supposed to send for our reservations?

Even more women at same all-nighter at HoJo's.  Patti Miller was also there, but slipped out while pictures taken......or maybe took the pics.

Still looking for everyone on the Missing Classmates list. I know the Brown twins were in New York at one time but not sure now. Juanita Jumper is one we should be able to find but haven't. Any hints at all could help. I am pretty good at finding people but I need a starting point.

Jack:

Thanks for the photos.  I was the hostess that night.   I don't have those pics.   Any way you can email them to me so I can print them out?    eliasli@sbcglobal.net.

That was such a fun night.  I used to have slumber parties when I had to babysit for my sister's kids!  She used to bribe me to babysit by allowing me to have slumber parties.  The oldest of those 3 kids is now 55.

Thanks again.

Love ya, Linda

Milan, the best information I still have......actually from the Bloomington community......is that Juanita died in a car accident in the Washington D.C. area back in the '60's while attending Howard University. I understand she was married at the time.

I read here some time ago that there have been Juanita sightings in Bloomington and even checked that out. There is a person in Bloomington that resembles Juanita, and is actually a relative, but not her. Stranger things have happened, but it just does not fit her profile to be existing incognito in the Twin Cities.

Linda, you can copy these pics right off the web page. When I get home, I'll e - mail them to you anyway....but be aware that you can copy pictures off here anytime.

From Pages Past on February 27th Pantagraph:

50 years ago (1964): Mike Eddings of Bloomington High School will be the Intercity's lone representative in the State Final High School Wrestling Tournament at McGaw Hall on the Northwestern University campus. Eddings will compete in the 180 pound class.

If memory serves correctly, the Browns attended ISU.  That may a source of informaion for them.

Milan, Judy Tynan Danielson and Carolyn & Sherilyn Brown are cousins.  I think Judy knows where they are?

Neither Brown is listed in ISU Alumni Directory. I know they both were in NY a few years ago.

I found this last year. The Brown's father died in 2004. He had been married twice. Their mother died in 1964. I talked to a surviving member of his family and she said they hadn't heard from either girl in many years. Here is part of his obit:

Also surviving are two daughters, Carol Lee Brown and Sherrill Lynn Brown, both of New York; a stepson, Ralph (Sharon) Scott, Chillicothe; two stepdaughters, Carolyn (James) Gatenby, Naperville, and Tena (Michael) Fowler, Normal; a grandson, Ted Fowler, Normal; and a granddaughter, Teresa (Robert) Hudak, Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

I also had Sherrill Lynn Brown 67 in Gettysburg, PA. But I couldn't get a number there either. And even Jerseyville, IL. Nothing

Judy is related to the Hirsh twins, not the Brown twins.

Thanks Milan.  For some reason, I thought the girls' maiden name was Brown.

Rod:

It looks like you're having Yankee weather!  Sorry this winter has been so tough for so many.

CLASS in Illinois:  I can't imagine all of the people that hunt........going out in the bad weather for very long periods of time.  I guess I should ask Mary..............the Moose master!

But, isn't it deer season up there?

Keep warm everyone.

Linda

Can you eat moose? They look like they would be tough as an old shoe. Around here, people shoot a few Whitetail, but in order to make them edible they need to mix in a lot of pork and beef. Even then, they taste like crap.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Mike, of course you can eat moose. Mary "Moose" gave Marv a package of ground mooseburger for a chili cookoff last year and he came in second place behind a guy who had a sexy girl serving tequila shots with his Mexican chili. Marv's recipe was delicious and he plans to have a Canadian stripper serving vodka shots from an Iditarod sled the next time. You won't want to miss it. Maybe then you'll change your mind about moose.

I don't know who does your cooking, but when we were in 8th grade, Dr. Wright's wife made venison stew out of fresh deer from Wisconsin. To this day, I remember it as one of the best meats I've ever eaten. So, my advice to you, is, fire the cook. :-)

Linda, you have no idea. In Chicago, we have broken or are near breaking every existing winter weather record. Most seasonal snow, most days with snow cover, most days below zero, most days without going above freezing and it's not over yet. It is so cold, I got this message on my computer.

Hoping all of you are marking your calendars for Aug. 16 and the 50th Class of 64 Reunion, I hear the weather should be wonderful by then.

You know Mel, I never thought of it that way.

Who cares what the food tastes like, if it's served properly! It appears that in that competition, the winner's service contained a lot of amenities. Go figure.

Mel:

All meat can be treated differently to get the 'wild' taste out of it.   The recipes used are voluminous, however, when you find a recipe that makes deer sumptious, delicious, etc.,  I believe in following that recipe!

I love to cook rabbit that's raised as opposed to wild.  Frog legs......mmmmgood.

As for the weather..........you Northerners need to learn how to lock up your igloos and become snowbirds in the winter!

Take care!

Linda
