Marsha Hutson......My gosh, you look just as I remember you from those days back in Lincoln School. Time has treated you well. It saddens me that we never kept in touch. I could say much more, but this is a public forum and I'd rather just hold on to those days gone by. I hope that life has treated you well and that you have enjoyed many years of happiness. I'm thankful that we friends.

I think it has been about 4 months since I last posted anything on the site.  Retirement has not been what I thought.  Relaxing and playing a lot of golf.  I have been extremely involved with week-end baseball and sort of, kind of working with my son in a start up business.  I won't bore anyone with that, but i have just been too busy for my own good.  Let's just say I have worked physically harder in the past few months than I had in the last 30 or 40 years.

Anyway, I am going to search through the past 9 or 10 pages to see what all has ben hkappening.

On a recent note, for all the horse racing fans, (seems not to be too many), the Derby is over and now the Preakness.  On the Derby, I knew Orb would be a really good horse, but my horse finished 3rd..  You never know with that many horseses on a muddy track.  Orb will be the heavy favorite at the Preakness.  He is a very good short track horse, and his warmup times have been super.  Also, fewer horseses.  Of course, I'm not the trainer, but if they decide to race to the front ot of the gate, most likely, the race will be over.  I think the sleeper could be Itsmyluckyday.  He had a horrible Derby, but seems to be back in form.  Although i don't think he has a chance to win, my favorite will be Oxbow, for personal reasons.  I'm going to go back through the pages and see what all has been happening.  Then I will be back.  Ya'll just can't wait, I know.

Go Blackhawks!!!  You know - HOCKEY - STANLEY CUP

Rod

Hey Rod, I picked Oxbow to win the Derby and lost my muddy shirt. So I'll leave the horses to you and stick to what I know best, art.

For anyone in or near Bloomington, i thought you might be interested in the upcoming Trotter Fountain Day and June 1. The details are on the poster, so please feel free to join us if you can. Should be a fun afternoon not to mention its cultural importance. For those who may not remember it, the fountain stood in Withers Park next to the old library and is now the center attraction there. Hope you can join us.

Mel,  I thought the statue looked familier, but I had no idea why.  Now I know.  I'm sorry about your favorite Oxbow at the Derby.  He ran the worst race of his life. I'm not sure if he got a slow gate and couldn't recover for the mud and too many horseses, or what, but that was not the Oxbow that we have seen all year.  As I said, he will be a long shot, but I'll still stick a couple bucks on him, just because.

And let's tip our hats to Gary Stevens, the other jockey in Seabiscut.  Great comeback.

Just a couple quick comments.  Mel, sorry you probably missed out on OXBOW.  That was an easy $30+ for $2.  Jerry, I  was surprised, but impressed that you knew Gary Stevens was in that movie, or that you even knew who he was.  He was and still is one of my favorite jockeys.  I was not happy when he retired in 2005.  Now he is back and hopefully we will see more of him.  Also, ya'll notice that by sleeper horse, Itsmyluckyday, finished second.  I threw a few $$ at him for 3rd, so I still made a little.  The race was actually strange for me.  Who wouild have thought that Orbe would sort of panick in a crowd.  That's what they said, but if you watch the race close,  I  think either the jocky or the trainer ran the wrong race.  Orbe is a great horse, a speed horse, who like to get out in front and run.  He had the #1 spot in the gate.  I would have got him out quick, in front, on the rail, turn him loose and say, catch me if you can.  At lease Oxbow proved he is a much better horse than what the Derby showed.  Now it will be interesting to see if Orbe runs in the Belmont with blinders.

Ed:

I see that the Illinois House voted to allow residents to carry concealed guns!   Guess you don't have to find another place to live after all!

Congrats!

Well Linda, the senate has not followed suit and the gov hates the bill

However, a federal appeals court has required legislation no later than June 9.

If the legislature does not come up with a bill and the gov does not sign it by that deadline, then the concept of "constitutional carry" will come into play... that means any weapon anywhere, concealed or open... just like the 2nd ammendment says....SHALL NOT BE ABRIDGED
