Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Helen,

We will arrange to meet either the next time we're down south or should you ever come again to the Bay Area or Tahoe for that matter.  Yep the lake is cold but no wet suits required.  Our family including our immediate family as well as uncles, aunts and cousins has been residents of the Tahoe basin for over 60 years and ever since we were old enough to run off Globin's pier at Al Tahoe, wet suits at Tahoe were for wimps.  Now surfing in the Pacific is an entirely different story despite Annette's movies.

Kathy and I have been members of the League to Save Lake Tahoe for almost 30 years. (Keep Tahoe Blue)  The work they have done with UC Davis has gone quite a way toward improving lake visibility which is back to around 70 feet in depth with a goal of 100 ft. as it was in the mid 20th century.  Lots of problems remain but we won't quit.  Of course keep in mind the depth of Lake Tahoe is around 1,700 feet.  Sorry for all this but we obviously care deeply about the lake since it has been a big part of our family's life and memories for a long time.  If you ever want a bumper sticker (Keep Tahoe Blue) let me know.

I had the opportunity to see Frankie Avalon at the Mother Road car show here in Springfield a few years ago. His friendship with Annette lasted thruout their lives. As you may know, she had MS and did not appear in public. I understand that Mr Avalon contributed to her support in later years... truly a friend

Helen,

Bugs are mudbugs or as yankees call them craw-dads

Boiled in spices and accompanied with beer, they make  fine meal, sort of like small shrimp.. very spicy and delicious..

To eat them one pinches the tail section and the flesh pops out of the shell, then take the thorax and suck out the liver and other goodies... thus the expression:

Pinchin tails and suckin heads!

Helen Nicolaysen (Thompson)

Ed, #1, I don't do spicy, #2, I don't do pinch and suck liver and other goodies! Now it's REALLY EWWWWWWIE and yuckie, but as my Mom use to say, "Good thing we don't all like the same thing or it would be a crowded world!" EWWWWWWW ICK!

Linda Bristow (Elias)

Ed:   Sounds great!   But..........no beer.  With hollandaise sauce I could sure dunk the tails though.

Linda

There isn't enough beer in this world to get me to eat those "bugs". Have at it! No competition from this Indian.

We do get up to Robertsdale once in a while when my husband needs his Camping World fix. so not to far.

Have a good summer.

Milan:

Do you remember??????

As we went up Colton Street to E. Washington St......turned right.....there on the left was Steve Frankenberger's house and on the right side of his house  was a 2 story house with an attic on it, delapidated and in shades of grey and blue.  When I was in 4th grade it was torn down after the old lady died, and 2 smaller homes were built.

We used to call it the witch's house.  Do you know who owned that house?  I wonder who that old lady was.

Appreciate your input.

Linda

Linda, I don't remember that house. It would have been on the south side of E.Washington. Steve lived at 1009.

1007 E. Washington was Jim Turpin in the mid 50's. I'll have to check a newer directory. I found a source for 1960. Jim Turpin sold plots at Park Hill Cemetery and his wife was Erma.

Thank you!   That was 1953-54.  I appreciate the info!  I always wondered who she was.

Happy to be allowed as a guest on the Class of 64 site. If anyone stays in touch with Tim Schmidt or Rod Hayes...tell them an old neighbor says Hi from the sunny southwest.

Linda,

So far Dave is doing good and God willing it will stay that way.  He goes back to Barnes in a couple weeks.

I sure hope everyone is surving these floods in Illinois.

SENT TO A FEW SPECIAL PEOPLE'

I FIRST STARTED READING THIS EMAIL & WAS READING FAST, UNTIL I REACHED THE THIRD SENTENCE. I STOPPED AND STARTED OVER READING SLOWER AND THINKING ABOUT EVERY WORD. THIS EMAIL IS VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING. MAKES YOU STOP AND THINK. READ SLOWLY!

AND THEN IT'S WINTER
You know. . . Time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is... The winter of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.
But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting gray...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don’t on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it’s over. A new adventure will begin!

Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!

"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one.
LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY! HAVE A GREAT DAY
Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver”
LIVE HAPPY IN 2013! LASTLY, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING: TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE SO - ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.
FURTHER THOUGHTS

Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!
Going out is good.. Coming home is better!
You forget names.... But it's OK because other people forgot they even knew you!!!
You realize you're never going to be really good at anything.... Especially golf.
The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore.
You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep".
You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch
You tend to use more 4-letter words ... "what?"..."when?"... ???
Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.
You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!!
What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
Everybody whispers.
You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear.
But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!!

Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!" Send this on to other "Old Friends!" and let them laugh in AGREEMENT!!! It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived.!!!
