Where was that place, out by Brandtville?  I remember the name more than the store.

What I do remember is "See Lilah, see Leelah at your General Electric Deala".  Store on East Street?, one block east of Main, I think.  Now that's advertising that stuck for 50 years.

Adolph's was by Brandtville. Golden Rule Appliance Store was in the 500 block of N. East St. across from the bus station.

Just a thought for classmates coming in here. This site can be as good as you make it. Who and what we were while at BHS isn't who nor what we are today. Popularity doesn't exist. Cliques don't exist. Friends exist. Be part of this wonderful venue. Participate. It doesn't matter if you just tell about your experience at the grocery store today. We all have lives and let's take time to share some of yours. Get involved.

Think about it. You remember who you sat next to in high school. You remember most of your friends. You remember who you walked to school with. You respected your teachers. Can you tell me who won the world series in 2000? Can you tell me who won the Super Bowl in 2000? Can you tell me who won a seat for Senate in 2000? There is limited value in those parts of history. We have maintained some value in our memories of school times. Let's enjoy each other. Time to get those memories out of the attic and have fun with them.

The guy in the hat is Tom Rockwell. Do you know who else is in that picture? Tom and I don't know but I know I knew him in school. Now that I look closer, is that a hat or a shadow? :)

My husband and I have been in Hemet, CA since December 5, 2010.  Weather today was 84 º and beautiful.  Sorry the Midwest is experiencing such cold and snowy weather.  Yes, I do remember the big snows in 1962/63.  A guy I was dating at that time could jump off the roof of his ranch home into the snow drifts.  Also Kennedy was assinated.  I was in homeroom when it was announced.  Where  were  you?

Please tell Sue Watson Ermantraut, it's good to hear that she's starting to get better and that I think of her often!

As for Jack Keefe, does anyone have an update on his health?  We miss all of his updates and messages for the Class of 64.  I also send him my best for a speedy recovery!

With regards to the street cars........my Dad worked at Johnson Transfer and Fuel Company on Center Street in the early 50's and I remember a track that ran down the middle of the street in front of Johnson's and seeing street cars go by as a young child.

I see Jack about once a week at the library. He is gradually getting his strength back. He'll always be the Jack we know and love. (laugh)

Home of so many Y-Teen dances. Boys against one wall, girls against the other wall. (laugh)

Then to the Green Mill for a Green River.

I remember those dances very well...the girls on one side and the boys on the other, and the great divide in between, like a museum.  The walk across the room to ask a girl to dance was traumatic.  I saw guys getting turned down.  I was always concerned that I would walk across the room and get a "thanks, but no thanks", which to me would have been a humiliating experience.  I don't remember ever getting turned down, but that fear persisted.  For insurance, prior to taking that lonesome walk, I used to scope the girls to see which ones gave me a glance of reception.

And on another story about the Y dances which Steve Wilson and I talked about on the phone just  a couple of days ago, some of you might remember the "pushing pennies" (with your nose) that 7th graders had to endure.  AT BJHS, I once made a kid named Chico Parado, a new 7th grader,  push a penny.  One night after leaving the Y dance, I crossed the street and was surrounded by a bunch of older thug wannabe's.  I got a quick hard punch to the nose, as they mentioned Chico's name.  Then they all ran.  I knew the faces, but I never found those suckers again.  My nose still has a slight bend from that.

Pushing pennies was big at Bent School, and Steve Wilson mentioned that on his first day as a 7th grader, he kind of hid out as the other kids were made to push the pennies on the concrete.  He though he was home free when as group of older guys spotted him and said "you have to do this too".  Said his nose was seriously scraped for almost 2 weeks.  Steve said, in retrospect, he would rather have taken the beating and at least one of the guys would not have been able to have kids.

I pushed pennies in 7th grade at Washington Jr. High School. Not fun. I was saved by an older neighbor guy.

I played softball with Chico and Chauncey James. Chico was very competitive and Chauncey was just out there for fun. Once Chauncey circled under a fly ball in the outfield and it almost hit him in the head. Chico started out there at him and asked "Chauncey, are you drunk?". And Chico chased him for the next five minutes. It was hilarious. You have to be there.

Milan, if I could blow our warm weather your way, I'd do it.  It's currently 9:50 AM and already 68 degrees.  Think I'll hit the pool today.  Wish I could share the weather with all of you in the Midwest and wherever else you may be chillin' out???  We're not planning on returning to Colorado until the end of March, when hopefully things will begin warming up.  Craig, Colorado, in the mountains was the cold spot of the nation a couple days ago at -30.

I too recall the Golden Rule Appliance Store commercials but I think they were saying "See Lyle or Lela, your General Electric deala" and that the owners' names were Lyle and Lela White - for some reason I remember that.
Since we didn't move to Bloomington until the beginning of my eighth grade year, my grade school memories are from Heyworth Grade School. But we attended Grace EUB Church in Bloomington from my third grade on so I did know some kids before we moved to Bloomington.

Hey Helen,

Guess what?  My sister lives in Hemet, and so does Tom and Ginnys daughter.  We are headed out there first part of April.  We are going on a cruise with Tom and Gin to Hawaii.  I've never been on a cruise and I've never been to Hawaii.  We are all looking forward to the two weeks of being pampered.  Are you staying in a camp ground?  We were out ther in October.  I'm so glad we were there then because my brother-in-law fell and hit his head.  He passed away a couple of days later.

Be careful going back to Co.  We got caught in a big snow storm in the rockies going home.

Hey Jack, I saw Donny at the State finals for the Cheerleading.  He said he remembered you but hadn't seen you since HS.

P.S.  Bloomington got 5th in state

It looks a little different but I think so. Is it on the corner of Clinton and Bell? I believe that was the address.
