First, Happy Birthday to all !!!!!!  Especially my old buddies Kaluf and Holt.  Remembered a great story about you and I Mike.  I'll tell you later.

Ben off the site for awhile.  Have had a pretty bad bronchial infection.  The wonderful world of drugs finally cleared that up.  Lost 13 lbs. though.

I know it's been really HOT in the Midwest this year, and it's really been HOT here in Texas, as always.  Linda can attest to that.

My wife has been in contact with Di Troxel and the healing process from the accident is coming along better.  That's a very good thing and hopefully, all the others are doing better as well.

A quick note to all the baseball fans.  My beloved Cubs are right where they always are!!!!!  They do have a new rising star in first basemen Rizzo.  If he keeps looking good, maybe they can trade him for 2 or 3 old, has been pitchers.  However, those Texas Rangers continue to ride high.

Gotta go for now, but I'll be back with a little task for you Milan.

Hello everyone!

We suddenly have rain in our dessert.  It is a dark black cloud that oddly looks a bit like a UFO.  Hmmm.  It only lasted for a few minutes.

What is everyone up to this summer?  Travel, gardening, hibernating from heat?

Love to all, Linda

Milan.......At his request, I changed Clayton's e-mail over a year ago to what I believe was clayton@fiftyflags.com (as shown on the current record).  He was on within the last week....so unless he changed it or it somehow automatically  reverted back to an incorrect address since then, that is what it should be.

p.s.  an email i just sent him came back as incorrect, so something has changed

Contrary to recent correspondence....or should I say lack of correspondence...I have not fallen off the face of the Earth.  I have just been busy moving to Menlo Park, CA which required WEEKS of sorting, pitching, and giving to kids all those things that I stuck in the closet or drawer thinking (1) I might want this someday or (2) that's too good to get rid of so I'll just save it.  I am still not fully unpacked and organized even though Joe Tom and I drove out the middle of March.  Joe Tom is here part of the time and in Colorado part of the time still doing his water resources engineering.

This has been a busy year on many fronts as I have spent weeks in Seattle helping my daughter Megan who is a single mom.  She just finished a 3 year masters in Midwifery and managing births at all hours of the day and night and a 9 year old who needed someone there when Megan was called out at night was not easy.  I was glad to be able to help out as I am doing some consulting still, but I can do that anywhere.

I am sad that I will not be able to make the August mini reunion.  I really had a wonderful time last year and it was great to reconnect with so many of you.  My daughter who lives in Eugene and her family are coming for a week to see old friends (they used to live in the area) and check out the new "homestead".

Speaking of kids, I will try to attach a picture of what the kids and grandkids gave Joe Tom and me for our birthdays...they are both in July.  I now enjoy a ride in the cool morning air every day and am loving it....my hip thinks it is terrific.

So I will try to be better about keeping in touch.  Have a great day!!

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Hey everyone, heats gettin' to me...forecast is for 102 in Chicago today.

I just talked to Marv who is on vacation about Clayton. He confirmed that Clayton did change his e-mail address but doesn't want it shared. For whatever reason he asked that it not be distributed to anyone. However, he does want to stay active with the reunion committee and has been in touch with Marv for that reason.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOLLY!!!! Those tricycles look great. Just like the one's Marv and I got for Xmas in 1949, only bigger with rear wheel drive and brakes. Hope you get to use them everyday.

Yesterday I reached my original goal of swimming 50 miles this summer. So I am resetting my priorities...going for 66 miles by Aug. 2, in time for turning 66. After that, who knows? 100 miles is not out of reach by the end of the summer.

Mel Where was that pix taken? The house you  are looking at in the back looks just like our house on olive, also the house nest door! Vic

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Vic, the photo was taken on W. Locust St., the deadend block just west of White Oak Rd. When my father got out of the Army Air Corps,, we moved to Bloomington from Decatur and rented a house there until 1951, when we moved to Wach Dr. and went to Oakland School. Many of those houses were typical wood frame with porches. Amazingly, all the houses on that block are still there except the one we rented, which burned to the ground about 10 years ago.

For those who went to Oakland School, you might find the 5th Grade photo from 1957 interesting. Mr. Glenwright was our first male teacher and it was the first year after the new addition was added. I love Cheryl McLay's shoes.

Hey Mel,

I have that photo someplace...along with some others from that era.  If I ever get around to organizing several boxes of photos and keepsakes, I will try to post a few.

What I remember most about Mr. Glenwright was all the stories he told about war!  He would sit on the cabinets by the window and go on and on....or so it seemed.  Now if he'd been talking about horses I would've found the time far too short!!

I am loving my "trike".  I live in an older neighborhood with many streets that need repaving which cuts down on traffic so I go for a 30-45 minute ride every morning.  I love it!!
