Rod,

Losing Brian Wilson is clearly a big loss for our Giants both on the mound and from a hirsute perspective. Never the less we diehards (the first major league game I ever saw was at Seals Stadium in the City in 1958 the Giants' first year, and they beat the Milwaukee Braves) are holding out hope the rest of the bullpen will come through.  Kathy jumped from the A's to the Giants last season and has become one of those wearing a Panda hat when we're at the ballpark.  GO GIANTS!!

Due to Helen's encouragement I am posting the following link for anyone who might be interested. Last month I made my 18th trip to Russia to participate as the only American in an internatonal exhibition "The Power of Water" at the Polytechnical Museum. Russia Today, a worldwide English language news station in Moscow, chose to interview me on the occassion of the UN's World Water Day. The exhibit runs through May 20 before traveling to other locations.

Rod, you can see that Dave was drinking beer straight from the bottle while the rest of us had soda in those red cups.  We pretty much ignored his input.

Jerry, I would love to be able to go "back to the future" and see a game at Seals Stadium.  When I was in the army there was a period of time when I worked the graveyard shift and managed to get out to day games at Candlestick a number of times.  Willie Mays was nearing the end of his career back then but still playing well.  I recall once sitting down the left field line just about even with the outfield fence.  He hitting a towering drive that I could see go well beyond the outfield wall.  It wound up gettng blown back into the park and the left fielder caught it. 

I have not doubt that he would have the career home run record had he not played so many years there.

Linda, The Illinois House has a Web site at http://illinoishousebuilding.net/ with the folllowing statement:

"The Illinois House Building, located on the northwest corner of the Old Courthouse Square in Downtown Bloomington, is a Bloomington landmark. Originally built as a hotel known as "The Illinois" in 1902, the building was purchased in 1977 by John R. Luedtke, Darrell L. Hartweg and Ralpy T. Turner, who moved their law firm to the Illinois House that same year. Since then, the  building has undergone extensive renovation and remodeling. Staffed by a full-time building manager as well as a full-time maintenance crew, the building retains its historical feel while providing modern and efficient commercial office space to its tenants."

Many of us remember our first Class of 64 reunion being there in 1974. It was an amazing experience because I think it marked the period of greatest change in so many of our lives. Marriages, families, college grads, war vets, a few deaths and the cultural revolution swept through our lives during those 10 years and we came together as full-fledged adults at that reunion. In many ways it was also the most awkward, because those who were there didn't know what to expect with the locals and those scattered throughout the world by then, all being curious about each other. There was still a tinge of competitiveness, but it was the beginning of our life-long collaboration through which we have learned how much we all have in common.

Currently the first floor corner of The Illinois House is the A. Renee Cafe and Wine Shop. It is an elegant, upscale den where you can enjoy exotic chocolates, espresso, handcrafted drinks and great conversation with the comfort of pillows and sofas. Dave and Sandy Holt, Pat R., Judy Neal, Marv and I have all become fans of the place. The history lives on.

Happy Birthday to Mary Selk who turns 91 years young today. She is really out there, as in unbelievably active. We would all be fortunate to follow in her footsteps. She doesn't miss a beat. Being with her makes 66 feel young.

Mary Selk is indeed doing great.  She sold her house and moved to Westminster Village this past year and traded her car in for a newer model a few weeks ago.  Every day is filled with activities such singing in the church choir and playing piano at various events.  She has many old (as in long time) as well as new friends at Westminster and thouroughly enjoys being there.  Mary and Judy Neal played a dozen or so piano duets Friday evening at a little birthday celebration for Mary including a nice cake and some ice cream (Mary loves her ice cream).  Mary made sure they were in time with each other regularly counting 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-........ as they played.  A good time was had by all.

Our Class Planning Committee met last Sunday afternoon to finalize details for three Mini-Reunions scheduled this year.  The meeting was followed by a very fun cookout (see Home Page for picture).  A Mini-Reunion is set for 6:00pm May 10, 2012 at Times Past Inn in Bloomington.  Hope to see all of you there.  A special dinner menu of five main dish choices will be available at under $10 per plate.  We will be on the outside patio if the weather is favorable or in the back coner of the main dinning room if the weather does not cooperate.

I will be unable to attend the May 10 th event. Malinda goes into the hospital on the 11th to have her colon trimmed. She has frequent prolapses due to the colostomy and they need to fix that..
