The notion of scheduling around a football game is somewhat appealing.  Nice call, Jack.

When you get ready to think about your reunion, keep in mind that the following season's games are not scheduled until the last one is over this season. So it's a crap shoot unless you take a chance and don't schedule your reunion until late. Less than one year is pushing it. This one coming up is the big one. Have fun planning, have more fun attending it. :)

Actually, that's not what I was suggesting, though it's an interesting thought.  Overall, I still think it's best to have reunions in the summer when it's nice outside, people are in a good mood, and the chance of turn-out is better.

I've even enjoyed the summer mini-reunions the best.

Jack, and at 67 years old playing in 95 degree heat. :)

Actually 68 years old, Milan.  As long as they have air conditioning, some music to keep people there, and I can still leave the support hose in the drawer, I’m cool with it (no pun intended).

But then, as Pat Rosenbaum pointed out, at this stage,  the mind is more flexible than the body.

Many of our classmates are anxious to see a renewal in social activities for our Class of ‘64.  A lot of interesting conversation has taken place on this website since my post announcing the intent to organize Planning Committee.  About 4 weeks ago I contacted 92 of our local classmates by E-mail or phone (That is everyone locally that we have contact info on) with an invitation to participate in the class of '64 Planning Committee.  Response has been received from 25 and so far 16 of those expressed an interest in participating.  Of those interested in participating 14 said they were available for a meeting on March 15, 2012.

An initial meeting has been scheduled at the home of Judy Winquist Neal for 7:00pm on March 15.  If you are interested in joining us please send me a personal message on the website so I can let you know how to get there.  Hopefully the meeting will set a direction for getting some mini-reunions scheduled as well as starting discussion on planning the 50th Class Reunion.

It is great that the website has become such fun social exchange for so many of us but it is not like getting together face-to-face once in awhile.  I will keep you posted on the results of the meeting so we can continue the good times.

You think that was something Linda?  You should have seen the reaction of the Mu Alpha Theta crowd.

I tagged along with Steve Jetton to that party (actually carried his supplies), and he was to follow Larry, but all he had was a formula to draw up a very crude chipmunk.  He was so outdone, he just couldn't continue.

Michael (Mike) Franks

Jack, that must have been a wild party. Especially when they started turning those parabolas into X-rated pictures. I suppose the door prizes were plastic pocket protectors, and a hug from Mr. Drew? Sounds like a laugh-a-minute.

02/25/12 11:10 PM #2805

Jack Habich

Pretty much like you said Mike.  Once Mr. Drew left and they broke out the Tang, it was off the hook.

I wasn't sure I'd fit in, even though I was sponsored by your cousin, but once I showed them how to draw the X-rated stuff without a formula, they thought I was cool.

Marv:

While you were gone, several people spoke to me about what they wanted and did not want in the 50th reunion.   I took that information and went to this venue to state it.   People responded, as you can see if you look back on this message forum, that they prefer visitation, music, and little welcoming, no skits, etc.  They would like to know the time limit the place would be rented for and not to be told that the reunion has ended.

Also, they state that you worked so hard on the last big reunion that it was not fair to you and that others should step up to the plate.  Some even suggested trying to get the Shattertones to play for us!  Realizing that at the time of our reunion, they would be 68, I don't know if that is a possibility.

For the 50th, I will donate stamps for the mailing notifying the entire class for whom we have addresses, of the slate for this year's mini-reunions.   I feel that this is fair to the whole class.   Also, it could be a stepping stone for preparing for the 50th.   At a time when people are discontinuing land lines and going to cells, we could use the bottom of a one page notification to update our current class directory by asking them to update their address, telephone #, and email address if applicable.

I noticed today on the class directory that Jeff Knuckles' email is incorrect.  It is supposed to end with condo law.   However, law is inputted as loaw.   No wonder he isn't getting our contacts.  We need this information updated in the directory as well as the system for broadcast emailing.  It is so easy to make a mistake when we input the info to the directory!  Someone needs to be in charge of it soon.

Suzy Denton's email address has been changed after she retired.  Its possible to have several changes.

I noticed that people have refered to the 50th as our last reunion.   I don't know about you all but I don't think I'm checking out at 68.   I have a family who have lived from 95-105 for two centuries.  (As long as I don't step out in front of a moving vehicle.)  So.........the 50th doesn't have to be our last reunion.

I refuse to go to the reunions held here in El Paso.  The people are not as happy to see each other as the Yankee's are in Bloomington!  So........don't mess up my life.   I want to continue reunions.   If you all can't handle them, I will be happy to plan the events.

Respectfully,

Linda

Jeff's email is correct in the file. He should be getting our email.

It sounds as though most 64 classmates are enthused about our 50th class reunion and that there has been 16 volunteers already set in place to help organize it all. In fact, there's already a meeting scheduled for March 15, 2012, to take place at Judy Winquist Neal's home, so it sounds as though everyone is confident that the people planning to attend that meeting will do a great job putting everything together as has been done in the past! It appears that anyone interested and able to join the committee is still more than welcome.

As for additional class reunions after our 50th, it's a given that reunions will continue after the 50th, however our numbers are dropping. None of us plan to give up until the fat lady sings, and I'm not singing yet! LOL!!! Hang in there Linda, you're doing a great job and will be a great addition to the committee that's already in place! As for putting a move on it, it's no big deal since there is still 2 3/4 years left for planning. Not to worry, most places in Bloomington most likely don't even take reservations 2 3/4 years in advance, so I'm confident everything will get done, as it always has in the past. Don't sweat the small stuff, it's not healthy for the soul! Keep on keeping on with the great job everyone continues to do!

We did make ours over two years in advance. You can reserve the big room that far in advance but not the sleeping rooms. The class of 1961 waited until too late to get the first choice and had to take plan B. He warned me to make ours as early as we could. Those same venues do weddings and that is the biggest competition for the ballroom. It's all a bit of a crap shoot. As we have a ton of hotels, most don't have the venue to support large gatherings. Just a thought.

Karen Sue (Suzi) Denton (Merritt)

I have a tax question!  Does anyone know anything about K-1 form regarding master limited partnerships?  We received the form even though this was referring within an IRA account.  Thanks for any help we get.

02/27/12 03:45 PM #2812

Michael (Mike) Franks

About the taxes......I'm sure you've heard this before, but I highly recomend consulting with an accountant that specializes in state and fed. I have a small business and I could never stay up with the constant changes made by the IRS. There is probably a Class of '64 accountant that will help. Good luck.

02/27/12 06:36 PM #2813

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Suzi,

I'm not an accountant and Mike offers good advise in suggesting you get one. But, I have had an S-Corp for over 30 years and a sole proprietorship for 40 years. So, maybe I can help since your question is fairly easy.

The K-1 form is always associated with income and losses from business investments and not related to IRAs. If you have any ownership in a corporation, you are subject to shareholder dividends, income or losses. If you got a K-1, you should see who issued it in Part I, Box B. If you own shares in a S-Corporation, the corporation cannot show a profit or loss and therefore all its profits and losses are passed on to shareholders on Schedule K-1. Corporate taxes are due to the IRS on March 15 which means you would get a K-1 a month before your personal 1040 is due. If you have income or (loss) on the K-1, you don't need to attach the form to your 1040, but you do need to fill out Schedule E, Part I for rental income or Part II for corporate income and then enter the totals on 1040, Line 17.

It is important to note, that whoever issued the K-1 has already reported this to the IRS, so you cannot just ignore it. An old accounting friend once gave me really good advice.....ALWAYS CLAIM YOUR INCOME...then.... DEDUCT THE HELL OUT OF EVERYTHING ELSE. That way you will never go to jail. Hope this helps.

thanks for asking Linda. I don't know what I have previously mentioned and don't want to unnecessarily bore folks silly, so I will say that the diet is going very well. I have lost about 20 pounds in 5 weeks and more significantly I am off insulin, and one B/P medication. The other has been reduced in dosage and my B/P last night was 110/60 so the doc is pleased with that. The diet consists of protein powder made into shakes... 5 per day MINIMUM... there is also a multigrain cereal that is pretty good a nd a pretend chicken soup that is also made from a powder along with an entree that is about 6 oz of plastic pretend food... but with time, the taste and texture actually improves! Oh, and the cork is firmly in the bottle and has been for 7 weeks.

Malinda has had her struggles. On new Years day she had a colostomy to take care of a bowel obstruction caused by the primary tumor. Following that she gained 30 pounds in about 15 days and could not hardly move her legs without my help. A couple weeks late she lost 25 pounds and then got rid of the balance over the following week. She now weighs 93 pounds from a normal weight  of 125.

she is back on chemo and has a treatment every Monday. she likes it and says the treatments make her feel better. Other than having to get up several times on the night of a treatment, she has no side effects from the treatments. She did have a bowel prolapse on Sunday night that caused us to spend 4 hours in ER. A resident reduced it and I was able to watch the process and so now I know how to do it and according to the surgeon, me doing it will be fine. he has told me what to look for and so we now know how to take care of that sor t of thing..

she still works about 5 hours a day. The company is her life and she would go crazy if she couldn't go into the office.

so we just sorta muddle along

Ed...  Glad to hear that the diet is going well and you are getting healthier.  Before long you will be a shadow of your former self!  Keep up the good work.

We are thinking about and praying for Malinda.

Gene Lorch from the Class of 1961 wanted Holiday Inn & Suites by the airport as his first choice. When they got ready to pick, Holiday was booked. They only do one event at a time. He liked how they threw everything in for the price instead of charging $25 to $40 for a mic. Up to $75 for a player of sorts for the music. Each item is like a cafeteria with most locations. At Holiday, they must be hungrier.

We went out from the Class of 1963 and found the same thing and that's why we picked Holiday Inn.

Last week the Class of 1962 went out and found yet the same. Now the Class of 1961 ended up at Marriott in Uptown Normal. I was invited as a special guest. They book as many big rooms as they can. There was a party of sorts going on next to us. I believe it was a wedding reception. The people in our reunion on that side of the room could not hear our speaker even though they were using a mic. Those divider walls are not soundproof yet they tried to sell us on the idea you would never hear anyone else through them. Not true. Plus, Marriott charges $12 per night for rooms to have WI FI. It's free in Uptown Normal. Nice ripoff. So that is why Holiday got our choice. And their price was very competitive.
