Married?

A man and a woman who had never met before, but who were both married to other people, found themselves assigned to the same sleeping room on a transcontinental train.

Though initially embarrassed and uneasy over sharing a room, they were both very tired and fell asleep quickly, he in the upper berth and she in the lower.

At 1:00 AM, the man leaned down and gently woke the woman saying, 'Ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you, but would you be willing to reach into the closet to get me a second blanket? I'm awfully cold.'

'I have a better idea,' she replied, 'Just for tonight, let's pretend that we're married.'

'Wow! That's a great idea!' he exclaimed.

'Good,' she replied, 'Get your own damn blanket!'

After a moment of silence, he rolled over and farted.

This was sent to me by a great friend and my old golf partner with whom I share some opposing views. I think it is something that may resonate well with my Raiders '64 classmates.

Sandy, thank you for this lesson. I have been writing quite a bit lately, and I have to say that grammar without proper puncuation can be totally misleading and misunderstood. Over the past couple of years I have had several letters published in the Chicago Tribune. Their editors made several changes that made me look smarter than what I wrote. Commas are over used and disrupt many of our well intentioned thoughts. I love the example you posted and, for the record, think the women got it right (write).

Dave L., you must be clairvoyant, because Bob Dylan, word for word, just said the same thing. May we all be able to exude the kindness you so correctly espouse.

Dave, you are right about Dylan's voice, which has only gotten worse over time. But how about that harmonica? As for his song writing, what musician has ever been awarded the Nobel Prize for his lyrics? I'll stop here for fear that I'll have a misplaced comma. Are you listening Sandy? You guys are fabulous.

Thanks Wendy. I can't argue with that. I'm a long-time Dylan fan, but as time goes on I have had a problem understanding his voice. Still, he is a brilliant writer. Did I mention how much I love the harmonica? From James Cotton, and even John Lennon, I have always had a special affection for the harmonica.

Been a while since I posted. As usual I check the website regularly but have had a lot going on the last month. In mid-September I had my annual fall cookout weekend with a gang of my cousins on Saturday (13th) and our class Planning Committee on Sunday (14th). The next day I had a melanoma removed from the middle of my forehead which took about a 2" diameter patch of skin with it. Later that week, I rebuilt a bathroom shower for a friend which took several days. Picking, processing, as well as finding homes for, close to 200 lbs of tomatoes in less than a week was no easy task.

On Monday (22nd) I was in the hospital for plastic surgery to close the hole in my forehead. After being admitted, put in a hospital gown, getting an IV need installed in my arm, shortly after 1:00pm for a 1:30 surgery, they left me until 6:00 thinking they would take me into surgery anytime. At that time the doctor came in and informed me that removed skin had been sent to a pathology lab but had been lost in shipment. The debate at that point was that there was no way to verify if the melanoma removal had been complete. Several options were presented and it was decided to wait a month before taking any further action. So I am left for now with a huge hole in my head. I am feeling fine and the decision to take any action is on hold.

So, I packed up some clothes and tools on Tuesday (23rd) and drove to my son's in New Hampshire arriving the next day (24th). I have been offering to totally refurbish his severely broken down 40' x 40' two story garage. I had cleaned the trashed out upstairs and tore out the floor deck last year including building the rollong platform to work from. After a couple of days of planning I started work on it Saturday (27th). Started some of the demolition and today completed construction of a stairway and intermediate landing. The second floor is over 13' above the ground floor, so it is quite a challenge for anyone, let alone a 79 year old with no sense. I hope to complete the reconstruction by the end of October. We'll see how it goes.

So, that is how my last 13 days has been spent and explains my negligence regarding the website. Below are photos of the bathroom rebuild and the garage progression. Stay tuned for the progress report.

Jim, needless to say, I've known Marv all his life and what you suggest ain't gonna happen. He has, in his own words, no sense. If he isn't working on something, he's already planning his next project. While some of us are trying to grow old gracefully, others still have a vision of endless possibilities. Marv is one of them.
