Nancy Weaver (Cupp)

Saw this on Facebook and had to share it.  I can relate.  I remember my grandma, my sister, and myself commenting that we all thought people our own age looked so much older than we did.  I remember when I was a teen, people thought I was older.  As I got older, they all thought I was younger. Even my own husband thought I was younger than him, when we met.  He's actually 4.5 years younger than me.  Go figure.  Now I barely look in the mirror. It's too frightening.  -Nancy Weaver Cupp

Nancy, that was cute and oh so true.  There was a group of women I was thinking of joining and when I looked at their pictures, I said, "they are old!"   ha-ha   I do think the people in our class all look our age and none look older than what we are.  There is old and then there is old .  The way people dress, wear their hair and so forth all make them appear younger.  Maybe, attitudes just keep us younger.  I didn't join the group, by the way.

I think our class website helps us stay young and I love keeping in touch.  Not many classes have this and when I tell people how we stay connected with it and the mini-reunions, people are amazed.

Thanks for posting.

Nancy, I don't know where you got this, but my son and daughter both went to Morgan Park High School in Chicago where the Mustangs were their mascot. So it was particularly funny reading it. And Sandy, once again you have made me laugh. Loved the Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd thing. Does anyone remember the Pantagraph article with the headline, "Normal Man Marries Oblong Woman"? My younger brother knew the groom. You can't make this stuff up. Too funny.

Older/Younger??  I think our lifestyle and habits have a lot to do with how we look.  I had a neighbor that I saw with some regularity--she worked night shift and was nearing home about the time I finished my morning walk.  We exchanged pleasantries, and 1 time she asked about my business, and I replied that I was working on a selling/business plan with the intent to retire.  She was surprised and said I was too young.  When I told my age, she said that I must not smoke (and I don't), because that ages one's look.  I guess that's one for good habits.

I am visiting my son in NH for a few days. A couple of days ago my next door neighbor sent a photo of a buck in my driveway after I left. My house is at the point of a peninsula and I have never seen a deer in my yard before. Guess he knew I wasn't home!

Below is a photo I took yesterday of my Great Granddaughter Evelyn who will be 4 Monday which is why I am visiting NH.

On my drive to NH I took the scenic route throgh Vermont. Lots of beautiful views along the way such as the one below.

Before leaving on my trip I completed a rebuild of a shower in Judy's house. Here are photos after the demolition work, the rough in and then the final completion. I replaced the insulation before hanging the drywall.

I met my husband Dave at a singles dance in 1995.  I saw him walk in and I thought he looks about my age.  Well I forgot about him until he came over and asked me to dance.  When we started dancing I asked him where he was from and how old he was as I was 49 at the time.  Well he said he was 49.  So I thought I would see who was younger ... so I asked him when his birthday was.  He answered March 12, 1946.   I stopped and just stared at him.  I said that's my birthday.  He thought I was giving him a line BS so he asked to see my drivers license.   Yes I'm a cougar!!  Ended up we had so many things in common.  He has a son Jeff, his daughter and my grandson have same birthday, our mothers were both born in 1910, we both have one sibling both born in 1928, and they both lived 90 miles apart in California.  When we got married it was the third marriage for both of us.  l got my first divorce March 9th and Dave got his March 19.  I got my second divorce January and Dave also got his in January.  All were different years.

Finally when the dance was over he asked me out and walked me to my car and you guessed it we both had convertibles.  There's more but I can't think of anything right now.

This from the pen of Dave Barry:

Never tell a woman that you didn't know she was pregnant unless you're sure that she is.

The true story that goes with that quote:

I returned to Bloomington after being away for 13 months.  I decided that a Big Mac was in order and headed to the one in Normal to satisfy a long awaited craving.

The person in front of me in line turned out to be a girl/woman that I had been very serious with before leaving town.  She had dumped me for another guy - one of those no hard feelings - it was fun while it lasted end of relationships.  We chatted for a bit, kind of over the shoulder chat, in line.  She mentioned something about a baby but with the noise and me thinking of other things I didn't really catch the whole thing.  When she got her order and turned toward me it was plain to see that she had filled out and I innocently asked "When are your due?"  Tears came to her eyes and she said she delivered 3 months ago.  I felt like warmed over dog dirt but she saved my embarrassment by giving me a hug and a welcome home before she left.

Great interaction lately !

Marv ......  Too bad you missed your first dear visitor, but being with that darling granddaughter is well worth it.... she is adorable !!!   AND that shower .... wow you certainly are talented !  I just had ours remodeled in our lower level very similar, by a 50 yr old!  Hard to visualize a young 79 yr old (probably 78 at the time) doing that !

Suzi .....  Quite a love story for you and Dave !

Dave Long .....  I put my foot in my mouth one time and did the same....  the woman was definitely not pregnant and had not recently had a baby.... just too many sweets!  I never have aske that question again !

Here's a thought from Art Carney aka (Ed Norton from the Honeymooners)

"When the tides of life turn against you,

And the current upsets your boat,

Don't waste those tears on what might have been,

Just lay on your back and float."

I'm on my way home from visiting my son in NH and made a stop at Niagara Falls. I am on the Canada side and wanted to share the awesome views with the night lights.

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is in Kansas City, MO

Here's a tribute to Satchel Paige and some of his suggestions for living:

1.  Avoid Fried Foods, which angry up the Blood.

2.  If your stomach disputes you, lie down and pacify it with cool thoughts.

3.  Keep the juices flowing by jangling around gently as you move.

4.  Go Very light on the vices, such as carrying on in society.  The social ramble ain't restful.

5.  Avoid running at all times.

6.  Don't look back.  Something might be gaining on you.

Hope all y'all have a wonderful day.  We're off to see "Fiddler on the Roof."

If I were a rich man.......

Wow.  Great pictures of Nigara Falls.  I've never been there but I'm always heard the Candaian side is the presttiest side.

A chuckle for today.  This cow gave birth to quadtruplets which happens 1 in 11.2 million births.  They are named Eeny, Meeny, Miny, and Moo.

Suzi,  your post about the cows made me laugh more than the cow picture.  ha-ha  By the way, that is a lot of coincedences you and Dave have in your lives. It sure seems like fate, for sure.

Jim R,  I sent you a personal message about this, but guess you didn't see it.  Are you familiar with Cascade Christian Church in Grand Rapids, Mi?   A friend of mine at my church has a Daughter who has been the minister at the Mackinaw Il Christian Church and has transferred to Cascade.  Her first service to preach will be Aug 24.  I don't know her last name, because she is married, but her first name is Judith.
