Last summer I began taking you along on our trip across country from Michigan to Santa Cruz California, traveling by car 7200 Miles in about 25 days and visiting 9 National Parks.  I got sidetracked with our 60th reunion and then posting those pictures and never resumed.

HERE GOES THE CONTINUATION........

We left off in Montecito after the disappointment of Oprah and Megan & Harry not having us in for tea.

HURST MANSION off in the distance along Highway 1

Lots of Sea Gulls and rock formations along the coast

EVEN a Lighthouse along the way

(Nothing in comparison to LAKE MICHIGAN LIGHTHOUSES !)

Finally drove through Big Sur... didn't even see the ocean there.... in a hurry to get to the wedding so not enough time to stop and investigate !

THE BEST IS YET TO COME !

A Thought for Today

We could certainly slow the aging process down if it had to work its way through Congress.

I saw a bumper sticker the other day.  It read: 'If things get better with age, then I am approaching magnificent'!

We're kind of like the old coffee table or perhaps the old comfy chair, not just old, but cherished antiques. Not used a lot on a daily basis but always nice to have around when needed.

Like that DAVE BROCK.... lets all strive for MAGNIFICENT !!!

Dave Long..... We're just like that old soft comfy chair... That's why the grandkids love to snuggle with us, because we're squishy and comfy too !

DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE FONT CHANGED !  I TRIED TO CHANGE IT TO ONE FONT 3 TIMES AND STILL CHANGES TO DIFFERENT ONES ????

Dave--  Some other old ads--Fruit Loops  Uit-Fray/Oop Slay and Follow your nose.

Puffed Wheat--Shot from a Cannon.  Snap, Crackle and Pop the Rice Krispies characters.

Double Mint gum--Double your pleasure, double your fun.

A classic Burma Shave-- He lit a match  to check Gas Tank  and now  They call him Skinless Frank

And then there was the Holiday Public Service Announcement:  The moon was full   and  so was he   The car was in the ditch   and He was in the tree

Friday, March 14th - - - - Today's "HUMOR"?

Linda Bristow (Elias)

The grant that I work on, and many others at the University, have been notified that our appointment ends 8/31/2025.  Also, that we won't be getting the next grant because the Dept. of Ed is being dismantled.

So, today I applied for another position.  Somehow I never surmised that I would be updating my resume at this age.   Surprise!

I am not ready to retire.  I'm much better off working and directing my attention to achieving and learning new things.  Donating my time is no longer appealing to me.  Been there and done that......for over 50 years.   Travel.....Well, I've done that too.  I've been everywhere that I believed was interesting.

It will be interesting if I am still able to apply and get this next position at this stage of my life.  I would be doing the same thing but for students needing ADA accommodations to go to school.  Some are ex-soldiers, and an assortment of others with special conditions.  I think I will enjoy doing that.

Linda

Linda..... YOU GO GIRL !!!

I too never plan to retire!  At least not unless God changes that plan for me !

Interesting thing happened yesterday as I was being  "chauffeured"  home and back to my Lincoln dealer for service on my vehicle ... conversation insued with the driver who happened to be in management of the fleet division and he was answering my questions about how the team of drivers worked .... by the time we got back to the dalership he had me meet with the big boss and before I knew what was happening, I was in a full fledged job interview !! First time in 55 years!  What a hoot!  They recognized my Lincoln loyalty and love of their product and thought I'd be a good fit !  Real Estate has been too slow and I'm gettin tired of sitting around too much ... I love driving so who knows ... I may be driving a new car to Bloomington for a dealer trade some day ! MAYBE even EL PASO ... TEXAS that is !

Dave, you nailed it. I do not have and never have had a cell or smart phone, but I am reasonably computer literate for an oldster. My 9-year-old granddaughter is much more savvy than I am about technology and I totally depend on my son to keep things working on my computer. Having become somewhat accomplished with Photoshop, email and all the other minimal tasks that allow me to use this technology, I am now part of the computer generation. But if it weren't for the 5-year-olds, how would we survive? My life has always been dedicated to art, something I'm much more comfortable with. So let me share this little passage that sums it all up...

MEL ..... THAT''S A GOOD ONE ! ! !  I'VE NEVER SEEN ANY OF HIS PAINTINGS EITHER !

JIm,

That is the point. Have you ever visualized a piece of music or listened to a painting? I have. And it is magical. Give it a try, it is a life changing experience.

retired 2010, my dream job when I retired was to work at a golf course helping kids and training people, with that said, I'm starting year 14 working at a golf course, doing what I've always dreamed about

Dick Ross, I'm never sure what to expect when I log onto Raiders 64, but I was abolutely delighted to see your post. I've never been a golfer, but reading about your "dream" thrills me. That is what my life in art has been. What resonates to me from your words is...follow your passion. Like many of our classmates, I remember you but never really got to know you. So it comes as a wonderful surprise to hear about your love for golf. It makes me wonder what passions others have that keep them engaged. Be well my friend and I sincerely thank you for jumping in here.

Dick.... So great to be fulfilling a pasion later in life and getting so much enjoyment out of it !

I just did something for the first time in 55 years, I played the piano for a group at church for singing old hymns.  When I play either piano or organ it is for my own enjoyment (or amusement) and a source of meditation so I play with expression that is usually off the regular beat and rhythm, so when playing for singing, have to stay on count, so I get sweaty nervous and usually get lost !  THEREFORE I don't do it.  SO I forced myself to do so since no one else was available and to my amasement it went pretty good!  Always a first time for everything.  Maybe a
"MIRACLE".

Sandy.... I guess I'm a JOLLY McMUFFIN !

AND CONGRATS TO MY WIFE AND ME ......  SATURDAY'S ARRIVAL OF OUR 2nd GREAT GRAND CHILD .....  JOSIE MAY TAYLOR

MY # 3 SON THE PROUD GRANDPA.... hope he don't hold her upside down too long, that could stunt her for life !  HELP MARVIN !!!

NOTE:  AT 79  I HAVE MORE HAIR THAN MY 50 YR OLD SON !

HUMOR or TRUTH?

Here's one Mr. Drew would appreciate:

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator.

Only a fraction of people will find this funny.

You know Dave, he may have said this, but his humor was so dry most of us would have missed it. 🙄
