‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
There are 3 basic periods in the life of Jesus—Birth—Ministry—and finally, Death and Resurrection. We know very little about Jesus’ development years. Most of us are aware of the Biblical account Jesus’ birth in Luke 2, and I will let you read of that in your leisure. Following is an account based on the Luke verses, with apologies to Clement Moore and others.
‘Twas the night before Christmas, As people settled down
And all through the town For a long winter’s nap
Not a creature was stirring, With visions of taxes and
Not even a houn’. Censuses filling their heads.
God was filling the sky
The town was all full With a guiding star and heavenly host
Of travelers and folks instead.
Caesar had called for a census
And tax to fill his poke The inns were all filled
Filled to the brim.
Along came Joseph and Mary, But a kindly innkeeper
They were a little slow, Went out on a limb--
As a young expectant couple, And showed them a stable behind
They went with the flow. The inn,
Out in the barn—an unlikely place
For the Prince of Peace to be born.
Out in the field—the shepherds took rest
Only to be raised by song from Heaven’s angelic best.
This was the beginning of the end of Satan’s reign
For Christ would become the Devil’s great pain.
Eventually all will come
And all will bow,
To acknowledge Jesus as King
With the crown on His brow.
