Sandra Jeakins (Singletary Sizemore)

Charles Ridenour passed away December 15, 2024.  He was a long time school teacher at BHS when we were there, although, I didn't have him for any classes, I knew who he was.   He was over 90 years old and attended my church every Sunday, only walking with a cane and always wore a suit or sport coat and tie.

His Daughter moved him to Estes Park, Colorado to be closer to her at the end of the summer.  He had been having health issues and had been on the prayer list.

I have been watching the Patagraph for an obituary, but so far none as surfaced.  The announcement that came from my church said they plan to have a Memorial Service at the church in the Spring.  So maybe an obituary will be put in when the Memorial Service is announced.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

There are 3 basic periods in the life of Jesus—Birth—Ministry—and finally, Death and Resurrection.  We know very little about Jesus’ development years.  Most of us are aware of the Biblical account Jesus’ birth in Luke 2, and I will let you read of that in your leisure.  Following is an account based on the Luke verses, with apologies to Clement Moore and others.

‘Twas the night before Christmas,                    As people settled down

And all through the town                                  For a long winter’s nap

Not a creature was stirring,                              With visions of taxes and

Not even a houn’.                                             Censuses filling their heads.

                                                                          God was filling the sky

The town was all full                                          With a guiding star and heavenly host

Of travelers and folks                                        instead.

Caesar had called for a census

And tax to fill his poke                                       The inns were all filled

   Filled to the brim.

Along came Joseph and Mary,                          But a kindly innkeeper

They were a little slow,                                      Went out on a limb--

As a young expectant couple,                           And showed them a stable behind

They went with the flow.                                    The inn,

Out in the barn—an unlikely place

For the Prince of Peace to be born.

Out in the field—the shepherds took rest

Only to be raised by song from Heaven’s angelic best.

This was the beginning of the end of Satan’s reign

For Christ would become the Devil’s great pain.

Eventually all will come

And all will bow,

To acknowledge Jesus as King

With the crown on His brow.

We're ready for the Christmas Eve Mass, already at the kids church as our favorite youngest grandson will be a Shepherd. Shhhh, we're not supposed to know!   It will be a busy rest of the week - Erin, our FOD, is hosting Christmas Eve dinner and tomorrow we're hosting Christmas afternoon / presents / dinner (right in the middle of the Chiefs game against Pittsburgh - grrrr). Guess who didn't get a vote?     Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday and a safe and happy New Year !

Twas the Night Before Christmas--just a litle clarification.  This is in a Word format, and is 2 pages.  The 2-column portion of the poem at the top is page 1, and the single column is page2. I had trouble posting it, and really didn't proofread when it was finished.  Marvin and I  enjoyed Excedrin headache # 23 posting the piece.  Enjoy, Have a Happy Holiday season.

Well, here we are a quarter way into the 21st Century. There was a time when I imagined it would be impossible to live that long. But the years keep piling up and Marv came to visit yesterday. At some point in the evening, we sat in my guest room, each of us with little machines taking our blood pressure. Amazingly, we had almost identical readings...both within heallthy tolerances. At that moment I couldn't help noting that when we were kids, there is no way we could have imagined such an experience. He ate a bunch of my Holiday cookies, took me out to dinner, and kept me up until after midnight. Today he returned to Bloomington and somehow managed to escape the snow and ice that was forecast. We sat listening to music last night. He photographed my Christmas decorations and was in awe of the Chicago lights when looking out the window. Since I don't have a smart phone...not even a cell phone....he documented some of my condo. This is the result. Wishing you all a Happy New Year and hope you jump in here and make a resolution to begin posting more on Raiders64.

Nancy Weaver (Cupp)

Mel,  that view outside your apartment is beautiful and so notalgic!  We didn't decorate at all the past two years, because our son stored all our Christmas decorations in the rafters of the garage.  He thought he was helping. Sigh!  So, we bought a Hanukkiah (9 candled menorah) instead.  I also have a dragon plant that almost reaches the ceiling now, so we put lights on it and hung the Christmas cards.  I didn't send out a single card, or even buy any gifts this year.  December went by so fast, I didn't have time to think straight!  Fortunately my thoughtful husband bribed all the grandkids with money, so it all worked out. The only Christmassy thing we did was take a drive to see the lights in another town.  I even made a video of it, and did some research on the lights of Hanukkah and Christmas this year.

Did you know Hanukkah and Christmas have only coincided starting on Dec 25, five times since 1900?  It really became quite an eye opener for me...the significance of the lights, which goes a lot deeper than I thought.  I wrote some of it below the video, but you may only be able to read it, if you watch youtube from a computer. I don't think people who view the video from a phone can read what I wrote about the video.  Here is the youtube link, if you want to see it.

If you want to know what I learned about the significance of light, contact me.  It's pretty cool,  I think.

Nancy
