HELP!

Assuming the boulder walls will last several hundred years, I was thinking I should put a time capsule behind one. What would you put in a time capsule? Please help by providing your suggestions. It will be interesting to see how creative all of you are.

Marvin:

How about a timepiece and an empty gelatin capsule as the first things that would be seen.  Then include newspaper (they might come up missing later on), a radio, and a few choice photos of important people at the time (including yourself) in your area?

Best wishes......

Linda

Marvin, your rock wall looks great.  I know from personal experience how much work that job is.

Your landscape project looks great!!  Looks like a lot of Mexican labor--Manual.  I have done a few projects over time, but nothing as extensive as yours.  Have a bottle of Advil (or other favorite pain reliever).

Suzi, How are doing ? Think of you often but not good at responding. Marvin, the wall looks great! You are amazing! Lots of back breaking labor. We saw it before it was this far along!

Marvin, such fun was had by all at the reunion committee picnic.  In the first picture, your reflection can be seen in the glass of the door.  Yay, the picture taker finally got in a picture.  ha-ha

Your yard and rocks are looking great.  A lot of hard work, there!  I'm trying to think of something clever for your time capsule, but I'm not very clever.  I'll keep thinking, though.

I haven't posted on here but look at it almost every day! Marvin, that wall is beautiful. I can't imagine the hard work involved. It is amazing. I enjoy reading all the messages and seeing pictures. Thank you for what you do.

Boo, I'm doing pretty good just hard to get around.  I got a electric scooter and that helps when go somewhere where it's a lot of walking.  Dave always pushed me in the wheelchair but he may have Parkinson and it's difficult for him to get around.  That's why we didn't go to Marv's.

How are you doing?  I hope you guys didn't get affected by the bad weather down on the east coast.

Hows Cheryl doing?  It's no fun, but she's getting a lot more treatment then I had.  I was so glad I didn't have to have chemo.  The side effects of radiation I had was being tired about an hour after I got home.

Take care everyone and I hope to see everyone at the Christmas dinner.

love you all

Suzi

Hello All:

Update on Cheryl McClay : She is through with chemo and has a 3 week break before beginning radiation, which will go into the New Year. Her daughter and family have moved to Tucson which makes her very happy. The grandkids are coming at Thanksgiving. She's excited about that.

On an unrelated topic: Anyone out there playing pickle ball? I just love it! My new favorite pastime!

Take care, Boo

Boo:

I went to play pickleball for 2 weeks M-F at 4pm.  It was with old friends who married people 10 years older.  Their husbands watched.  I was the oldest one there.

The other women couldn't hit it with their glasses on nor off!   I need to find some other people that know how to play.

Sure glad that you're enjoying yourself though!

Thanks for the update on Cheryl.  Please tell her hello for me.  I don't want to call until this is all over.   I know she must have a lot of people reaching out to her!  I'll stick to praying for her.

Love ya, Linda

Marv, I was talking to my son about time capsules and he showed me a video about Miss Belevidere, a Plymouth car, that was buried in 1957 in Tulsa Oklahoma.  It was buried from 1957 to 2007, 50 yrs. When they opened up the capsule to get the car out, it was full of water and mud.  So what they had sealed it with didn't work well.  They did refurbish it and there were tickets sold for someone to win the car.  By the time the car was given away, the man that won it had passed away and they gave it to his 100 yr old sister.  They even buried gasoline, oil and a few other things this car would need,  in case those things were not available in 50 yrs.  The car is now at the Illinois History Museum in Roscoe, Illinois.  There is a website where you can play the video and learn more about it.

This is probably more than you want to put in your time capsule, but thought it was interesting.  ha-ha

Finally finished the brick patio reconstruction yesterday after building the boulder walls. Retired old guys need something to do to keep them out of trouble. Birdseye view from the upper deck.

Fall now being firmly underway, I added some flowers and pumpkins to the front yard garden to brighten things up. Would be fun to see what others have done to decorate for fall and Halloween.

Sandy - I hope your shoes are not thill thoo thight. I thelt tho thad thor you.

Linda - I never thought about naming my house! Mel came up with the name Tikila for my floating tiki bar. Maybe he can suggest a name for my house. Has anyone else named their house?

Thanks to those that offered suggestions for a time capsule. A few were provided outside of the website. I do not expect to actually make one since I probably won't be around  to see the reactions when it would get opened. On the other hand, one of these days when I have nothing better to do I might just do it.

Boo - I guess judging from the lack of response there are no other pickle ball athletes in our class. Judy used to play after giving up tennis and before her knees got too crabby. I tried it a couple of times buy I couldn't seem to stay out of the "kitchen" frown. My reflexes and agility are not compatible with all that high speed action. Glad you are able to enjoy your new past time!

Nancy H. - It was nice to see your post and hear that you monitor the website regularly. Feel free to jump in and let us know your passions and what you do to enjoy life. That goes for all of you other "closet" website visitors. Let us hear from you.

Suzi, Dave, Cheryl and others who are fighting these aging bodies - Hopefully you will improve and be able to enjoy many pain free, happy years ahead. Age is not always very kind to us and your bravery and attitude make all the difference as you fight these battles. I wish you all the best as you work through these challenging times.

One final thing -

SMILE - It increases your face value!

All that outdoor architecture is outstanding.  My Fall outdoor work is about done--cleaned off the dead plants and put them on the compost pile --not a pretty sight.  Leaves will be flling soon, and that will add more material for composting.  Picked and the wrapped the tomatoes, expect to have them til after Thanksgiving.  As the Old Philosopher said--Gettin' old ain't for sissies.

Marv how do I post a video on the website?

10/14/23 05:53 PM #10683

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Suzi, I'm not Marv, but maybe I can help. The website does not accept videos, but if you go to YouTube, you can upload your video there. Once that is done you can copy the link from the heading and paste it into your Raiders64 post. It will come up as a direct link or you can simply type in the YouTube info and anyone can copy that and paste into their Google Search or FB search. Let me know if you need anyhelp. Hope you are doing well and mending from your latest episode.

It's time to start accumulating candy treats for Halloween.  Do you know what costumes your grandchildren are going to wear?  My 11 year old grandson is going as Albert Einstein.  He just acquired a white wig.

What is your favorite Halloween candy?  Mine is Heath candy bars.

Linda

Thanks Linda for waking the website from its quiet stretch. My grandkids are beyond tricks or treating. My great-granddaughter will have a costume but I am not yet aware of her planned "identity". Regarding Halloween candy, as those close to me know, I have a demanding sweet tooth. When I shop for Halloween candy I want to provide delicious traditional treats. However, I count on having leftovers and selfishly make sure those leftovers meet my standards since I will be obliged to dispose of any treats left behind. Photo below is evidence of how I have prepared. Note the background showing the beautiful fall colors now happening here. The challenge for the next 11 days is to resist the temptation of breaking into the goodies. I may need to seek counseling sad.

Marv-

I'm quite sure it must be written, somewhere, that anyone, over the 60 speedlimit of life, has the responsibility to check the candy before we hand it out to Trick or Treaters!   Also, if there are any leftovers, we must dispose of it!

When we were very young, I remember people who made homemade popcorn balls, carmel-covered apples, and homemade candy to give on Halloween.  Did society just get lazy or what?  Those things were good!

Boooo to all!   Our whole class is just booootiful!

Linda

PS:  Fall is pretty, but the leaves fall and have to be cleaned up.   Scratch that!  Maybe I should just keep cactus.
