haven't really had too many travel mishaps involving flights - but i'm one of those that allows at least 4 hours between flights.  i'm combining this with weather.

stuck in a sandstorm in oman.

57 mph winds on the tall ship on the aegean sea.

stopping for tea at the side of the road in iran - all of us taking pics of the nice view- two  guys immediiately showed up and told us to leave as we were next to a military facility.  a few yards further we saw the 'no stopping no pics' sign.

wasn't brave enough to take a pic of them from the front.

surprise storm in the gobi desert in mongolia.  the drivers had never seen anything like it.  they had one car go all the way across before the rest of us ventured through.

crossing the drake passage - had ropes up as you couldn't cross the room unassisted.

Heading to Bethlehem - all of us were checked.  Fortunately we had a Palestinian driver and a tour guide with dual citizenship.

We were all urged to stay togeher throughout our time in Bethleham, but of course Dorothy and I wanted to explore and wandered off into town for a nice lunch on our own.  We felt safe as there were armed guards everywhere.  Some of our friends were afraid for us and couldn't understand how we would just venture into a strange city alone.

Seeing Julie's post with the Sand Storm inspired me to think of a theme for today if anyone has no objection:

W E A T H E OR NOT....?

Okay, maybe I have too much time on my hands

Rain while exploring a Plantation in New Orleans.  Our car was at the other end of the walkway and beyond the fence.

Of course when you have rain, you get Rainbows.  This one is in Hawaii and Dorothy just managed to grab it.

And with rain, you often get Freezing Rain.  These were trees in our backyard.

Sure Wendy, rub it in. Were you there for the AT&T as well?  I've given only 3 bad reviews to restaurants in all my travels, and one was to this pretentious Italian restaurant in Carmel.

Pretty sure I know which Italian restaurant you mean, Dave.

The Blizzard of 1978. This is from the day after and the entire city of Columbus was shut down. But there was still TV coverage to prepare so I trudged off to work. This was our first house, located in suburban Upper Arlington.

Before this snow melted, I got a new job in Wichita, Kansas. But warmer temps ruled as the snow sat there,  creating a lot of fog for the drive west. I drove 1100 miles in that fog.

I'm assuming this is Freestyle Friday.  Also HAPPY 4th OF JULY to everyone tomorrow.

Yesterday we had all 5 grandkids and one of our daughters-in-law here to paint a mural on the smaller storage shed in the backyard.  I should mention that our d-i-l is a high school art teacher.  The mural size is 6.5' X 15'. First pic is the blank canvas and the second and third are the finished mural.  Everyone had a good time and lots of shirts with paint on them.  Great to get to spend the day with all of them here!  Marv... can tip the shed upright please! Thank you.

Jim, I laughed and laughed at your vacation story with you motor home.  It's something that I'm sure wasn't funny at the time, but something you laugh about now.

Max, not many people have their shed or garage painted like that.   It is really neat and looks like a fun project for people that know what they are doing.   It turned out great.

My son and family are on their way to central Oregon and stopped at the replica of Stonehenge at Goldendale.  It is pretty funny and here is a picture, plus one of the real thing.

Oops.  Landed on its side - All better now!

Max, what a great project with the grands. Are you sure you're not in Kansas?

Good Morning and Happy 4th of July. If you're not too busy, don't forget to give some thanks for those who made this day possible but aren't alive to enjoy it. Freedom isn't free. It never was.

These fireworks are from Bloomington: Miller Park in 2007 at the top; BCC in 2006 at the bottom.

Happy July 4th everybody and Happy Birthday America.  On C-Span, last night,  I watched the music and fireworks over Mt. Rushmore and it was really beautiful.  C-Span is also televising the music and fireworks tonight in Washington, DC.

Also, if you go to holidayspectacular.org you can watch clips of previous performances at Miller Park that some very talented people perform in.   It goes from about 2009 thru 2019.  You can pick certain ones or it will go from clip to clip.   I usually attended all the years and since they weren't having the show this year, it was very nice to  capture the American spirit from previous years.

Again, whatever your plans are,  have a great 4th!

Hope you all have a pleasant 4th of July.  Our neighborhood usually has a parade with the local fire truck, etc, and the kids decorate bikes and join in.  Not this year but here are a few pictures from past parades.
this outfit was jaw dropping.  The man is about 6,5"

Beautifully framed flag at a festival in Ennis Texas in 2018.

Happy 4th of July to you all!!! Hope you are able to celebrate it in a special way in this very strange atmosphere of 2020. There will be at least 50 pontoon boats tied together on Heritage Lake today and fireworks tonight I am sure. They call it the Heritage Lake Floatilla. I will watch from my yard and maybe go for a swim but will not be joining the masses of people I will be observing.

Pic from my deck of the Floatilla in 2014.

Jack - Your Miller Park fireworks shot is awesome with the glow through the bridge.

Fireworks pics are from Boston in 2010 (top) and Chicago in 2005 (bottom). Enjoy this special day.
