Hey you all!  I just spotted a Tastee Freeze ice cream within a Wienerschnitzel Hot Dog stand.  Are they the ones that had the Twin Twirl (1/2 chocolate and 1/2 vanilla)?

Love to all!

Linda

We had a great turnout last night at cheeks.  It was really nice visiting with everyone.  Also the food was yummy.

Now the weather is crappy!

Suzi:
Good to hear there was a good turnout! I wonder how many showed up? I hope there
will also be a good turnout for August so that I might get to see more classmates.

How are you and Dave doing and feeling now?

Love ya, Linda

Hi everyone. Wanted to share some good news regarding my prosthetic limb - while it's still not fitting 100% correctly, I've managed to walk unassisted for about 20 feet - no walker, no cane, just me and the artificial limb - kind of scary to be out there, but it will get better over time. My Physical Therapist says I'm pushing too hard and to slow down on trying to walk unassisted, but that's never been my way of doing things. Thanks for all the kind thoughts and prayers!

Dave so glad you are improving on your new leg.  Pretty soon you will be running.

Karen so sorry we missed the reunion last night. Something unexpected came up at last minute but everything is okay. August is definitely on the books! Glad there was a good turn out.

So much good news. Dave, you are -- in the words of Max -- The Man. This is really great news. 20 feet will turn into 20 miles. And yes, you are probably pushing too hard, but that is part of the Raider Spirit. Just be careful not to fall down and ruin it all.

Suzi already gave an account of Thursday night at Cheeks for the mini-reunion. Some of us took a poll afterwards and counted 28 attendees, the most ever to attend a mini was 30. Had a few spouses and those who didn't materialize been there, this would have been the largest ever. August is looking really promising to be the largest mini ever. Mike Smeadly, Larry Carson and Dwight King were among the wonderful alumni who joined the regulars. Great night. Great conversation. And, above all, lots of love among all those who showed up. Can't wait until August.

Yeah, we might be getting older, but in the classic sense, we're getting better. And, that ain't just Whistling Dixie.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the kind words.  I've already managed to fall 3 times in the last 2 weeks.  Also managed to get back up and keep moving.  Really bruised the 'good' knee, but for anyone with joint pain, buy a product called BIOFREEZE.  Not much in it as the active ingredient is only 4% Menthol, but it has a pretty good pain relieving effect.  Could be mental, but it helps.

Sorry I missed the last Mini-Reunion - had it been a week earlier, we would have been there, as we passed through Bloomington on our way to Chicago for Oscar's 3rd birthday party. I'll try to do better on keeping up with Raiders64.  We'll be headed up again around June 20th, as Chloe will be delivering Theodore Remy Milstein about that time.  Please keep Chloe and Theodore in your prayers as there are potential complications, not as problematic as when she delivered Hugo who was still borne, but enough to cause quite a bit of consternation for all of us.

Health and Happiness to all.

Dave

PS:  Happy Birthday, Happy Mother's Day, and for the month of June - Happy Father's Day!

Did you know that the PGA always schedules the US Open to conclude on Father's Day?  Did you know that our daughter, Chloe, managed to have her due date around that same time?  In addition, Oscar's 3rd birthday was on the same weekend as the Player's Championship (5th Major)!  What will befall us in July for the Open Championship or in August for the PGA?  The 'Man Cave" has been extraordinarily empty for all the recent golf tournaments.

When you were 50, did you think your best friends would be people in the 70's?  My buddies are all guys in their late 60s through 82; all Knights of Columbus.  There are times when I think - who are these guys? - then look at myself in the mirror and realize that I'm one of those guys.  Lively conversations, which we'll repeat the next Wednesday when we all get together for breakfast, as we'll have forgotten we already discussed the topic - usually Trump or Catholic doctrine.

05/20/17 04:21 PM #6013

Michael (Mike) Franks

My gosh, David! Are you serious? You and your friends get together and hash over Trump and/or the Catholic Doctrine? Wow, does the fun ever start? I suggest that you change locations, like maybe a bench in front of Victoria's Secret, or at least a place that is conducive to girl watching. No wonder you guys feel old! Don't worry about remembering anything. It's better that way.

Best wishes. Get those wheels healed-up. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, so "rock&roll". Start checking things off of your bucket list.

Linda, Dave and I are feeling good.  I don't know about Dave but if I could get my Big behind up I'd do cartwheels!  LOL.  Life is good and I'm glad to be here if for no other reason than to give some of my class mates crap.

David keep up the good work.  You're doing great.

Allida now what's with Karen.  At first I didn't know you were talking to me.  (At least I think you were).

You and Jim were missed.

If you all know someone from our class who hasn't put their birthday in their profile have them do it.  I can't send birthday wishes If it's not in there.

Was looking through a folder of recipes and stumbled across one I got several years ago for "Steak & Shake Chili Mac." Since "the gag" was sort of an iconic institution back in our day, thought I'd share.  I swear it absolutely nails it.

1 ½ lb. hamburger

1 med. Onion, cut up

24-28 oz Brooks catsup  (must be Brooks)

2 small cans hot dog sauce

3 tbsp brown sugar

2-3 tbsp cider vinegar

Brown hamburger & onion; drain fat

Add other ingredients.  Simmer 20 minutes.

Serve over spaghetti noodles

Notes:  this serves a big group.  I usually halve the recipe.  Regarding the Brooks catsup - the person I got this from really emphasized it, so I've never tried it with another brand.  It's hard to find.  In Blm, Meiers is the only place I know that has it.  But - once I tasted Brooks catsup, I never went back to another kind.

Hi everyone!   I'm sure a lot of your grandchildren have already graduated from high school.   My oldest grandchild is graduating this year!  I am so proud of him.  He is such a good person.  He is going to attend UT.  He called Sunday to let me know how far I would need to walk from the car to get into the auditorium for his graduation.  He said.......'bring your cane Gram'.  How thoughtful!

His father was such a brat.  How in the world he sired 3 boys with impeccable manners just slays me!  They all sound like little Southern gentlemen.  They just melt my heart!  I'm looking forward to seeing where life takes them.

I'm sure you all feel the same about your grandchildren too!

Blessings to all!

Linda

Steve, I was really getting turned on over that recipe! What the hell is "2-small cans, hot dog sauce"? Must be some sort of secret ingredient?

I'll bet if you'd whip-up a huge pot of Chilli Mac,(with Brooks, of course) a lot of classmates would show up and help you eat it! Just post on the site when we when we can expect the feast. Will parking be a problem? Oh! Does it go well with beer?

I'm joking, of course. Ah!....the good old days...............

Mike, you got me on that one.  I made it a couple times but it's been awhile and can't remember what the heck I used for that.  Also, don't know how to contact the gal who gave me the recipe.

I think it's Ray's Coney Island Sauce or something like it.  Will give it a try and see.

So, hot dog sauce really does exsist. Thanks Milan.

I've thought of that old Chili-Mac since I read Steve's post. Can you believe that we ate that stuff on a daily basis? When we were young we had cast iron stomachs and hearts like a race horse. We had never heard of cholesterol or sodium. Blood pressure? What was that? Our diets were, "All we could eat, and a little bit more!" These days, I freak about the water I drink and I have an endless list of health issues that I should worry about.

Thanks, everyone. Go easy on those cheeseburgers.

Milan - That is great news! Hope this means you can continue your immensely appreciated support of the Class of '64 for many years to come. We would not be the same without your generous contributions. You make us better and we are very fortunate to have you. After all, if not for you we would still be trying to figure out what hot dog sauce is. We need you. Thanks for all you do!

Steve - Thanks for the tip on where to get Brooks catsup! My uncle (86 or so) always used it on everything and does not know it is still available. I will be getting some for him the next time I am in town. We missed you Thursday. Guess you had something really special going to stand us up like that.

Dave L - Really glad to know you are progressing well and hope this puts a permanent end to those infections and surgeries you have had to endure. Let us know if you make it to Bloomington in June or any other time and we will arrange for a special impromptu mini-Reunion just for you.

Mike F - You are so active on the website but we never get to enjoy the pleasure your company in person at the reunions. No pressure - just want you to know it would be great to have you join us sometime. Aug 10 will be here before you know it - make our day.

All others - That goes for everyone that has not been coming to the mini-reunions. We would love to see you to rekindle old friendships and create new ones. You might be surprised at the good conversation and friendliness that happens.

I am so thankful to hear so many of you are improving health wise. Rod, David and Milan keep letting us know how you are doing.  Those of us who are not as active might read this more often than we comment so it's nice to know how you all are.  I am hoping to make it to the August mini reunion so hope to see all of you there.  Happy Summer!
